But... you can watch all parts of a game on YouTube.SKBPinkie said:If the best parts of the game are something that I can watch on a YouTube playthrough, then it isn't a good game and I'm not gonna spend money on it.
There's a bunch more stuff than the mod. Not only is all of the original content expanded on (sometimes rather substantially and in unexpected ways), but there's also a bunch of new stuff of varying degrees of excellence. Plus, there's a level of detail that simply wasn't there in the original mod that makes even the old content feel new again. This is well worth it if you enjoyed the original mod.The_Echo said:Eh...
Is there anything new compared to the original mod? 'Cause if not, I might as well save the money and play the mod to be honest with you.

This SOOOOO fucking hard. It's not an ART game, if you want an ART game, go look at fucking Gone Home.Digi7 said:It's fucking fantastic. I loved the first iteration, and this one is just bigger, better and all around gob-smacking amazing.
Some of the cleverest and funniest writing I've ever witnessed. If you like things such as Hitchhiker's Guide you'll adore this.
It also doesn't fall into the trap of an 'art game' and the subsequent judgements from that. Well worth the money you spend on it.
I don't always say no to these types of games. The problem is that I have played them before and I simply don't enjoy them. So yeah, gonna stick to my previous statement - I refuse to spend money on things that don't hold any value to me.Dagda Mor said:SKBPinkie said:Nope, not interested in games that comment on other games.
If the best parts of the game are something that I can watch on a YouTube playthrough, then it isn't a good game and I'm not gonna spend money on it.Ugh. These are painful to read. Hell, you are the people that need to play it the most--the point is to deconstruct what is and isn't a game, and both of you have very rigid, close-minded definitions of what a game is. Not to mention that what you're basically saying is, "Why go to the zoo/museum/art gallery/theater if I can see it on YouTube?"major_chaos said:Yea no. There is a very long list of things I would consider spending $12 on before a game with no actual gameplay. If this is the posterboy for the whole "gamez are art" thing I think I'm perfectly content with games not being art.
It's less "games are art" and more "I'm going to confuse the ever loving crap out of you then laugh maniacally".major_chaos said:If this is the posterboy for the whole "gamez are art" thing I think I'm perfectly content with games not being art.
They're similar in execution, but different in caliber. Gone Home was about telling a story through a nostalgic environment, searching for details, and a emotional narrative, The Stanley Parable is about telling a weird concept and making you experience different sensations using only its near constant narrative and unorthodox mapping.KevinHe92 said:Yeah I heard some hype around it. I watched a LP of an earlier version, is this one any different?
This isn't going to be like Gone Home is it? I played that game and phewww...was that a disappointment.
Yea no sorry. I play games for the gameplay, No gameplay=no buy. Also your attempt to get me to play it became self-defeating as soon as you said "deconstruct", which is a term that instantly makes me think elitist "look how much smarter I am hur hur" wank. And amusingly enough I actually really don't ever go to the zoo/museum/art gallery/theater although its almost as much from lack of money as lack of interest.Dagda Mor said:Ugh. You never once defined "gameplay".major_chaos said:\

Oh come now. I don't really care if you buy the game or not, it's your loss, but don't go all "haha you used a big word nerd". It's not conductive to anything and really doesn't help your case.major_chaos said:Also your attempt to get me to play it became self-defeating as soon as you said "deconstruct", which is a term that instantly makes me think elitist "look how much smarter I am hur hur" wank.
Challenge,a failure/win state, puzzles, combat, platforming, minigames, ect. or any combination of the above. Basically anything that isn't 100% "walk forward while a man says words at you".IGetNoSlack said:You never once defined "gameplay".
I'd like you to do so.
You misunderstand me. I was saying the game sounds like wank, not the person I was quoting. I have never enjoyed a game that people hype up as being a "deconstruction". As a recent example: everyone was briefly infatuated with how Spec ops: the line "deconstructed" the military shooter, and I couldn't get a single drop of enjoyment out of that game.Phrozenflame500 said:Oh come now.
