Think of the old Planetary issue where a secret goverment experiment produced these guys called "Fictonauts" which did exactly that and then brought back a being from a fictional reality that they lost control of....

I don't believe they ever said who it was specifically, but the implication was that it was Ambrose Chase (who later died) who was kind of interesting as his power was to generate a "physics distortion field" which pretty much allowed him to ignore reality for periods of time.
