I fortunately never got the talk. An uncle tried when I was 10 but I shot him a nasty look and he shut up. I knew basically everything by the time I was 7. It sucked because I was ridiculed by the purposely kept ignorant children. I rubbed it in their faces when they found out I was right all along.

Two friends got the talk but they don't like talking about it.
Ahem sorry forgive me :)

Anyway im startled by the amount of people here who have actually had the talk, as I know nobody who knows someone who had it.. Weird
That was a pretty bad choice of words. Oh and you made me laugh, thank you.

Never got "the talk," what with dad gone and mom working all the time, but a nice little class in 8th grade decided to explain everything. Not that I really cared or anything, though. I was too busy trying to learn more ways to kill people, especially with fire.

"The talk" is one of the thing I consider fairytales that people try to implement into reality. Do you REALLY think it's a necessity?

It's good that school handles some of the finer details, but you can figure out the basics on your own just like a lot of other stuff in life. To that end, I do not endorse purposefully "protecting" children from such information. (Albeit being a bit discreet just like you are around other people is fine. I never said you'd shove it in their faces.)

I never had, "the talk". My elementary school had, "the movie", which was some guy coming in and talking about it in between short clips and slide-shows.
They made us watch cartoon bears doing it. I got mysteriously ill that week...
Hahahahaha!!! That's just wrong.
That shit's burnt into my mind now. Get shudders every now and again.

Never had the talk, but I'll say this: I rocked at sex-ed classes in ninth grade. I was the only one who knew that there were a thing called vaginal lubrication. In fact, I was the only one who had knew of it before they learnt it at school, ever.
Guess I'm odd...

I had sex ed in school at 10, but at 15 my mom said "You know, you don't have to be in love with someone to have sex with them, there are ways to have sex with someone you just enjoy the company of, like a girlfriend, you're too young to be in love"

I then had to break it to her that I lost my V 6 months prior at 14, and that I had a box full on condoms in an FCUK box in my wardrobe. I honestly wish I'd got a picture of her face when I told her

I watched my mother give birth to my sister when I was 9. I pretty much understood it all by then.

Never had one big talk on those topics, but I've certainly been told this stuff as my parents aren't religiously overprotective. I knew the basic concept of how babies are made when I was around 6. I've also learned a good deal on my own (thanks, internet!), of course.

I never got "the talk" either. My parents knew I watched R-rated movies and had friends with older brothers and sisters. The closest they ever came waw when i was about 13 and they asked me if I had any questions, and I was like "nah I already know everything. Besides, Misty's brother told me the specifics." Misty was my first girlfriend......... ah the memories.

Got my first taste of the talk when I was thirteen. Six years later and still hopelessly behind, I haven't had the urge to get the talk any earlier- When I was thirteen, boys were still gross and had cooties.

But I heard somewhere (No idea where) that the average age for boys and girls to lose their virginity is twelve. I blame Bratz.

I was watching MXC one day at my dads house and one day he just walked in and said "what do you know about sex?" About all I remember after that was I was really surprised and confused at first...

I guess I'm old enough that most of my peers got The Talk. My parents sort of copped out; when I was 10 one of my Christmas presents was a science-for-kids book which included a section on reproduction, with special attention to how people did it.

Which leads towards my point. I don't think The Talk is necessary any more, not so much because of increased cultural sexualization (which is happening anyway) but because information is so much easier to find; Google "Where do babies come from?" and the mystery is solved. We didn't have Google in those days, after all. We didn't even have Internet porn! We had to steal Playboys from our older cousins, and if we didn't have any of those around, it was National Geographic or nothing! You kids today have it way too easy! Get off of my lawn! Young punks, mumble mumble, where's my Metamucil, oh it's nap time already...

Given that sexual education is one more thing Parents are either lazy enough or neglectful enough to just let someone/thing do for them I am not suprised by the responses in this thread.

Sexual Education should be handled by the parents, it should not be looked upon as a hassle or a responsiblity that can easily be shirked off to some other thing/group to handle.

Given that parents are the main parties responsible for preparing their children to become adults this is just one more thing to facepalm that parents prove yet agian we really need to start liscensing poeple to procreate.

One day parents will realize that they have become obsolete and hold no sway over the very life they have brought into the world as they will have been rendered so by governments, corporations and the vast amount of information available in the world.
