The video game that got you into gaming

It's a little hazy since I was so young at the time, but either it was Centipede, Pac-Man or Ms. Pac-Man not only they were the first that I had ever played, they were available for play at laundromats, making the interminable wait for one's load of laundry to finish seem to fly by. That made videogames pretty magical to me by itself.

For home gaming, that would have to be Super Mario Brothers 2. Super Mario Brothers piqued my attention alright, but it was the sequel that provided an experience that arcade games, up until that time the only proper way to play videogames for me, could not match or surpass, selling me on console gaming.
It also was the first videogame that I recall being able to play a princess in a frilly pink dress which enabled her to glide like a leaf in the breeze so that was aces.

Billy Hatcher was my first game, then Star Wars Rouge Squadron 3. But the game that really got me into video games was bought by my mom when I was 8, Grand Theft Auto Vice City. Rockstar games are like Meth, you cant get off them while it slowly tears your life apart and you feel great.

Mouse Puzzle on the Dick Smith Wizzard (yes it's spelt that way). I just spotted actually one for sale with 5 games on eBay ... but I'd have to buy an old telly for it to run properly I think.

I'm not too sure about my early history, but it's very feasible to say that it was some computer game instead. Maybe Reader Rabbit, or some clone.

Actually, it was probably X-Wing on my dad's computer. We would play it even though I had no idea what I was doing. All I knew was I was in an X-Wing, and that's all that mattered.

I remember I played a whole lot of the MVP Baseball games, the 2002 and 2003 ones, but only those. Then I played Timesplitters 2 on xbox at a friend's house... And my love for video games was born.

The first game I actually remember playing was Pac-Man. I was in the hospital when I was somewhere between 4 and 5, and the only thing to do was play the Pac-Man arcade game they had in the children's area (for free!). Which may have cemented my love of games....from there it went to Space Invaders which got me hooked on the Atari, Mario for NES got me rehooked on gaming, Warcraft for the PC furthered it (but still a casual gamer), and lastly Halo for the XBox (went from casual to not so casual). Borderlands made me break down and get an XBox 360. Still waiting on the game that makes me get a PS3. Though the newest God of War did look pretty good...

Some Spyro game on the PS1. I played that game with my brother way, way too much. We didn't even have one of those save-things, so we would start anew every day, hoping to finish the game. We never did, but we got a save-thing so we finished it :)

An old and underrated platformer in my opinion:

'Croc: Legend of the Gobos'

This was a masterful platformer. It was fun, colourful and introduced me to the fun of videogames. It basically defined my childhood. Now here I am... I rarely play platformers these days, but I'll never forget the fun I had with Croc.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos for the PSX.

Hot damn I loved that game. Had to get my mum to beat the bosses for me though >_< I was about five :p

It gave her motion sickness playing it though, so thanks mum for helping me out I guess...

I suppose that would be either the Lemmings or The Playroom, both for the Apple Macintosh Plus. First games I ever played.

Still love the Lemmings. Play the Windows version occasionally.

I used to watch people play SNES, but it started when I got a N64 with Super Mario 64.

Hover on Windows 95. After that, there was "return of the arcade", with Galaxian, Dig Dug and Pac Man.

Hmmm...I know it had Mario in it...when I was a kid. The game that brought back into gaming in high school (specifically RPGs, I'd never played a game with an actual story before...) was Final Fantasy X.

This little piece of history right here:

I had a really bad virus as a young child and eventually had to go to the hospital. The only thing I could do while I was there was sit around so they brought a TV and an N64 for me to play with for a day or so. I also lost my first tooth while I was there, yes I was that young, but that's a story for another time. I was instantly hooked and began playing in what could be the golden age of gaming, the N64 years. I still have that old N64 system and I hook it up every so often. OoT, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Star Wars Podracer, Majora's, Rogue Squadron, Star Fox 64, The original Super Smash Bros... oh to be young again.
Get out of my head
OT These were the turning point but my first experience was with the NES, Super mario world and the like.

Commander Keen.

Well I suppose I started gaming before Commander Keen but really that's the one(series) game that got me truly hook on gaming.

Alistair.
