Whichever dev has most recently ruined a series I used to love.

So at the moment, it's Activision.

Previously it was EA.

I really don't understand why everyone hates Ubisoft. They've made some of the best games I've ever played, in my opinion at least. But I haven't played a lot of their games, so that might be the reason... But the most evil? I would say Blizzard. Because the amount of hours people have lost to WoW, could have been used to cure cancer, or something productive like that.
They would have spent it on facebook or another videogame. I don't know about any evil devs though

i'm not too fond of dice, simply for sitting on the license for mirrors edge and doing fuck all with it (although i know this is EA i cant blame them as they are a publisher so im blaming dice for not growing some balls to ask if they can make a new one)

I am torn between Valve and Capcom for completely different reasons. But i will go with Capcom simply because it hurts to see the franchises i love go down the drain.

I am not even gonna get into the diabolical business practices and the tragic story of wasted talents

And just how many of those games are on a Nintendo system? And no, Tom Clancy's HAWX doesn't count, because, as always, the Wii version is an entirely different and shittier game.
I guess that speaks a lot for the quality of the Wii as a system, huh?

This is about being evil, Ubisoft isn't that big of a developer, but Activision and EA are just evil, COD is great, but Activision only makes it worse with their politics.
Ubisoft Montreal, one of the largest studios in the world at over 2100 employees is not that big? I kinda get what you mean, but as far as I know, Ubisoft is still right there near the top of the list of biggest developers.

My vote for most evil dev goes to CD Projekt.

Wait! Before you start lambasting me in white hot rage, hear me out. They're doing a lot of cool shit for us gamers, especially the old school crowd, aren't they? Doesn't that strike you as suspicious? I mean, that's not how this works. They're supposed to not give a shit about us and screw us over. I say they're up to something. First they take of our minds and then ... the world!

No one will believe me, but you'll see! and SOON!

Different strokes for different folks.

You'll find the majority of people here on the Escapist disagree with your mentality, though.

Since the OP specifies developers, im going with Blizzard. The innate, obvious addictiveness surrounding WoW didnt exactly earn them a high opinion with me.

Starcraft 2 earned them some points back for relieveing some of the pain inflicted by Command and Conquer 4, despite the staggered nature of its release...

But then come Diablo 3 its comparable to taking a chocolate cake then hurling it into an open sewer. Couldnt play it at all on launch, cant play it when im on the go, and pay2win, even if its player-to-player.

No. It speaks a lot about Ubisoft as a company.
Yes, it says that they want to make quality games on systems with modern specifications.

If we are counting publishers: EA and Activision

If devs: Bioware and Infinity Ward

All the stupid overpriced dlc/map packs for all. Also let's not forget shutting down servers or ruining existing franchises with piss poor writing revamps as individual examples.

Silicon Knights, sitting on top of the Eternal Darkness and Legacy of Kane series whilst spewing out awful games like Too Human and X-men then suing Epic as an excuse for how lousy they were, not to mention accepting massive financial help from the government then loosing more staff than they ever hired.I loved Eternal Darkness and all but a couple of great games in your resume doesn't let you just churn out crap with no end. If their not the most evil their defiantly the biggest idiots.

Also Sega for not releasing Valkyria Chronicles 3 in English but now I'm just being petty....

I think you mean publishers
Developers aren't evil, I think that if it were up to developers all games would be better and cheaper.

But it's publishers like Activision that makes developers release the same game over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
or Ubisoft that force developers to release unfinished games and sell the rest as DLC.
Or EA who make developers do both of those things.

All publishers want to do is sell copies, which might conflict with the developers who want to make games.

So when you have Valve who is their own publisher you get awesome games like Portal and Left 4 Dead and Half Life. then you also get the negative side of being a publisher who cares about quality control and sometimes games get lost in an endless cycle of trying to get it perfect.

If Valve was part of a major publisher we'd have episode 3 by now and it would suck.
So take what you get.
