GTA 4 Oh, a baseball bat, yeah that'll be REALLLLLL useful. Also did you ever actually pick up trash cans?
I know exactly what you mean. Personally playing through Revelations I've barely used the bombs, they just feel like cheating. Much more satisfaction in a perfectly executed hidden blade to the back than an explosion in the distance. And yep, the poison darts are completely redundant. In fact I barely use the poison anyway.C F said:Throwing knives were awesome in the first game.
Once you're in Ezio-land, the Hidden Gun and the crossbow make throwing knives a bit useless, so they counterbalanced it with the ability to take down up to three foes at once. Quite useful sometimes, actually. Of course, the entirety of Ezio's repertoire just grew more redundant as time progressed.
I mean, come on.
Poison dart launcher?
Just: why? To draw attention to a guard that's nowhere near you and buy time? That stopped being necessary around the time Ezio got access combo-kill streaks. Now it's just a fancy toy. Speaking of which: how about the bombs added in Revelations?
The game would be so much more satisfying if all you carried was a hidden blade and maybe one melee weapon to allay suspicion.
The 'S Creed series is still fun, but hopefully 3 will remember its roots a bit better.

Really? I've seen people ***** about how over-powered it is, and I've seen people claim that it takes skill to use properly, but I've never heard anyone call it useless.Grouchy Imp said:In Reach - The Power Lock ability. It makes you totally invulnerable for about five seconds. But also totally immobile. So all that you gain by using it is five seconds more life before the guy with the Energy Sword assassinates you. I should probably explain, I typed out what I was going to say, decided it was stupid and deleted it. I guess "Halo: Reach armor lock" didn't succumb to my delete button...James Joseph Emerald said:binnsyboy said:OT: Armor Lock in Halo: Reach.Really? Ooooh, True. I have bloody mess, but i still don't like laser weapons. The Plasma rifles cool, but hey...FalloutJack said:GZGoten said:Final Fantasy X, when I reached the last secret dungeon I realized I had a blue furry in my party who I had forgotten about, talk about a useless waste of spaceHey look! {2} My answer here is three-fold. First, it depends on what you use lasers on. Targets of flesh are much more vulnerable than targets of not flesh. Second, mostly you're waiting for that burn-the-flesh attribute to make a critical and vaporize the opponent. Happens often enough, but a serving of perks like Better Criticals and Bloody Mess seem to help. Thirdly, I'll have you know that I managed to kill Mr. Burke as he was drawing to shoot the sheriff with a laser pistol.
Cant say I've used push or pull, but shock wave is incredibly handy for clearing out those pesky husks.Jandau said:Barriers, Armor, Shields? Above Normal almost everything is protected and crowd control doesn't work on targets with any kind of protection. By the time you finish stripping the defenses, you might as well just shoot them and finish the job that way.Greyah said:Crowd control?Jandau said:Mass Effect 2 - Shockwave, Pull, Push on anything above Nomal difficulty.

i found them so ineffective and useless
Because this is basically what I was going to say, I'll add another one from the same games: what was the effing purpose of all those bombs in Assassin's Creed Revelations? I'm about a third of the way through the game (because Skyrim is just that damn time-consuming) and I've only used on-impact splinter bombs. If you use one, every guard in the district tweets your exact location, and it's the only one that fills the purpose of "make those guys over there into a bunch of shredded meat". I actually like the game, but I find myself rarely using bombs if I'm not just looking for a laugh.5-0 said:First Assassin's Creed: Throwing knives. Oh good, a long range weapon.
Assassin's Creed 2: Gun. Oh good, another long range weapon. And I can only carry six of them.
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood: Crossbow. Wow, a long range weapon, and I get twenty? I'LL NEVER USE THE GUN OR THROWING KNIVES AGAIN!
40k creds was easy to make, hell I had 60k by the time I hit 25 and that was just from vendor trash and quest rewards.Bhaalspawn said:Actually, I want to know why at-launch MMOs have such a ridiculous price for Mounts. The laser weapons have hitscan projectiles. They hit a target immediately, whether it's right in front of you or just at the edge of your visibility range. Plasma weapons, by contrast, move as quickly as a drunk obese man trying to remember which hotel room he's staying in. Lasers are bloody useless in VATS, but they make a decent choice for mid to long range engagements if you have no other option. Gauss rifle sort of invalidated that, though, but at least laser weapons are easy to repair.latiasracer said:The laser pistol and laser rifle from Fallout 3.

Pretty much yea. Master the Royal Guard and Royal Release (I think that's the name. It's been a while) and not only will nothing hurt you ever again, but Royal Release does incredible damage. It's not even funny.Hawk of Battle said:This is why; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbOFIcaGZdYTanis said:DMC3 - Guard stance.
I NEVER found it useful.
Used properly, it can fully protect against any attack, and I do mean ANY, attack.

This is why i always go soldier. I love the powers, don't get me wrong, but, not being able to chain them seems like a very poor design decision when coupled with the fact you lock out weapon types because they have powers. I mean FFS if you are only going to let me use one power per cooldown, at least allow me to use the fucking assault rifle as well. Put a cool down on the soldier's powers, not on the classes that would use them instead of weapons.Joccaren said:-SNIP-
It honestly makes me wonder why the other abilities are there at all. They have such little point, its not even funny.
