I'm not sure how seeing a character whipping another topless random character while she moans builds character or atmosphere. And that's at the start of a scene where you then go on to discuss important serious stuff. There's just no point to it other than the pandering.Charcharo said:SNIP
I can't understand this. Honestly. I'm not trying to be dramatically confused, like I'm just genuinely baffled. Sex is just sex. It's something that happens in life. It's not that big of a deal, it's not going to ruin the world if you see some graphics simulating sex, I promise. You'll be okay. The game will be okay, everything will be okay.Shanahanapp said:I'm not sure how seeing a character whipping another topless random character while she moans builds character or atmosphere. The scene with Triss in the Witcher 2 is the only one that actually does have a bit of meaning character-wise and honestly I think that scene is fine. But all the rest of them are random 30 second long scenes with little to no context, often with characters who you know for less than 5 minutes.
Well I honestly don't understand that you can't understand how some people would find meaningless pandering sex scenes detract from an otherwise serious experience.Chriss_m said:I can't understand this. There's nothing special about sex - they could have a sex scene every corner you turn in the game and it'd still be A-OK. Why do you think there needs to be some sort of special justification for a sex scene? More so, haha, why do you think sex has no place in 'serious' games? Sex is okay, man. Try it sometime - I'm 95% sure you'll enjoy it if you find the right partner!
I'm not sure "She has sex" counts as character development. Also the bath scene was skippable I think. The two or so scenes with aforementioned whip lady are not.Charcharo said:It does... actually. Even if a little. It tells you something about characters. In the case of the main protagonist in this series, it adds a few details to the world (why do women actually want to have sex with him, for example).Shanahanapp said:I'm not sure how seeing a character whipping another topless random character while she moans builds character or atmosphere. Also, atmosphere.
Also, I may be wrong (memories are hazy) but I think only the bath scene was unskipable. The others were always player initiated.
I dont get why sex needs a higher meaning BTW... it does not. By this logic I can argue games not needing many things. And it is player choice... almost all of it.
Wait.. the shitty Science Fiction In Infinite... yeah that ruined the experience...
Maybe it's a cultural thing. I'm European. Sex isn't really a big deal to us, in general.Shanahanapp said:Well I honestly don't understand that you can't understand how some people would find meaningless pandering sex scenes detract from an otherwise serious experience.Chriss_m said:I can't understand this. I am also European (Irish). It's not so much that it's a big deal. My point is that the Witcher approaches a lot of things with maturity, but not sex. I feel it's just tonally dissonant. If it was a lighter game I'd probably have less of an issue.Chriss_m said:Maybe it's a cultural thing. I'm European. Yes, Charcharo. This is the thing. I can't work it out.
What do you mean, ALL of them? On the Roche side of the game are just 2 sex scenes. You allready said yourself that the one with Triss in the elven bath is allright. So what's left is the Sex scene with Vess. Vess is an established Character that you know for pretty much the entirety of the game up until that point. The scene is completely in character with Vess being a soldier that views sex as nothing more than a fun pasttime. And she actually just sleeps with you if you respect her and don't loose to her on purpose in a fight. And there is a point to it, because it's just another step to develop Vess's character for what happens next.Shanahanapp said:I'm not sure how seeing a character whipping another topless random character while she moans builds character or atmosphere. I fail to see how her scenes develop her character in any way...And it is still a serious story, I mean I think it's important to note I still love the game. This doesn't ruin it for me, it's just an aspect I don't like. And even if you can say no, it still bothers me that you have the option of "Oh you saved me random sex now."Charcharo said:SNIP
I was actually talking about the Iorveth route, I haven't played Roche's so maybe it's better.Amaror said:SNIP
And like I've said I'd rather more mature sexual content than "You are well known as a lover so women sleep with you."Charcharo said:The thing is, even if you did not save her, most women there would rather be with the witcher...Shanahanapp said:I fail to see how her scenes develop her character in any way...And it is still a serious story, I mean I think it's important to note I still love the game. Due to him being "safe" (no pregnancy or CTDs in a pre-condom world) and well known as a lover...
Established in the books and kept in the games (they are a continuation).
Those scenes establish her sexuality, offer comedic relief (even the most serious stories need it) and break up the pacing.
That seems a bit disconnected, they can disagree with you without being a caricature.Chriss_m said:Religious?
I've played the previous games, and I know exactly what they are talking about. If you read my post, you would see what I was talking about. They show two horrible things, than for racism it's a she-elf having her ears made fun of. Who cares what they meant when that's what they show.ForumSafari said:Yeah nah, not in that setting. When they say racism they're talking apartheid, ethnic cleansing...you know, real racism rather than rude-word racism.lassiie said:".....interwoven with religious fanaticism, war crimes, even racism".
Ummmmm What????? I'm sorry, religious fanaticism and war crimes seem a million times worse than racism. When I heard that line I actually laughed out loud. They show people burning at the stake, being hung, than someone commenting about a she-elf's ears. Yea...sorry, the other two things were worse, and somehow racism was supposed to be the controversial one.
Ahhh, you may very well be correct and this would make perfect sense with the way she listed the 3 as well as the example they used to go along with it. Didn't realize this trope was a thing, and now I love their sense of humor even more.SomeLameStuff said:I think they were referencing this trope [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ArsonMurderAndJaywalking].lassiie said:".....interwoven with religious fanaticism, war crimes, even racism".

OT: I really really hope this can run on a laptop. My desktop is dead, and not in the same country as me.
That doesn't change the fact that the first two things that were listed are infinitely worse than racism. Plus, the example they gave was of just name calling which is why I found it so funny.Kungfu_Teddybear said:Racism in the game goes beyond mere name calling. I didn't state that he was a caricature. Actually, I didn't state anything. I asked him a question, he responded, that was it.ForumSafari said:That seems a bit disconnected, they can disagree with you without being a caricature.Chriss_m said:Religious?
I think you should calm down, to be honest. I'm pro-GG, but I'm not talking about GG or any censorship point, and I don't know if anyone in here is an SJW, but I haven't seen any of that typical hysteria.Shadow-Phoenix said:Can't wait to grab this and see how my PC handles it.
Shame about the thread though, it shows how downtordden the ES has come to, I mean this is a thread with Witcher 3 gameplay and the majority is squawking too much about the line of Racism/Sex and suddenly it's like I've entered Tumblr all over again, ever since GG and before it this place has just been a sess pit of talk, not for gaming but for topics that other sites based on those topics already have, this site usually covers gaming, sure it covers films but most of the time it's gaming and last I checked gaming wasn't all down to race/gender/sexism crap talk.
I don't visit here often anymore, I might post a few times but I;m utterly disappointed in what the site has become, I remember being a viewer back in 06/07 and joining in 2010 and for a time it was good, but ever since GG and Anita and all the other surrounding crap I felt the need to find other sites that retain what this site used to be like, I shouldn't have to do that but I did.
