Rage for me.

Fortunately it was given to me by my neice so I didn't pay for it.

Having to wait for ID to sort out hotfixes and then get hold of a beta driver due to shit optimisation already pissed me off about the game.

Then we get the same sort of setting as Fallout with bland as feth characters.

It looks good and it plays smoothly (if you overlook the driver issues and lack of tweaking ability) but it was nothing new.

Then again I haven't played many games this year so it wasn't looking good for it when I heard about the issues before it was released in the UK. I wouldn't have got it had it not been given to me.

Duke Nukem I played at a friends but not for long. I didn't have high expectations for that seeing as most of my kids are older than it's development.

Tried the BF3 beta and was expecting it to be a let down ... I wasn't surprised. Didn't play much of it though to be fair, the servers kept going down.

For me: Dead island.

Its just.. so boring, its like playing Oblivion all over again; All the crap is leveling up at the same rate i do, so i never actually get/feel any stronger.
I just get to fight with crappy gear all the time, so much i fought using my foot as my main weapon (it doesnt break at least).
At level 10-12, seeing no positive change in gameplay i decided that the game wasnt worth my time anymore.

Duke.
Nukem.
For-never.
Basically.

Definitely not the worst game ever, but definitely the biggest letdown ever.
You were really expecting that to be good? The only letdown is that they priced it at $60 when it should've been a cheap $10-15 downloadable thing.

I'm going with Dragon Age 2. Bad art direction -- check. Bad systems design -- check. Bad storytelling -- check. WORST quest design? Check, check, and double check. Painful game to play, really wish I hadn't wasted money on it.

I nominate Fire Emblem:The Sacred Stones, for being such a horrible game that it transcends time and becomes eligible despite being released in 2004.

Or Brink. Brink works, too.

A game that had above average VA's, great(and unexpected)sales, unique gameplay, dealt with largely unexplored social themes, and had a drinking simulator. Uh huh, terrible game... As for the date-sim thing, you start out with a girlfriend, so yea, I guess you win right out of the gate.

But hey, it's not for everyone. I can understand that. Condemning it as a terrible game though, that's a failure to look at things objectively.
Yeah, I agree with this guy. Catherine's developers made it pretty damn clear what kind of game they were making from the start, too, so... I don't really know what you bought or played that game expecting to get. The game's cover should have tipped you off if not anything else.

I expected a lot of Brink, and it failed on all expectations...
I thought Duke Nukem Forever was okay, but that was mainly because of the fact that I never really EXPECTED sit to be good, i had a few nostalgia laughs with it!

I also disliked Crysis II...

Just as a disclaimer I don't play games that I think are going to be average, I only play what I think'll be really good or really bad.

So I haven't played Duke Nukem, The Cartel, or Mindjack

The worst game "I" played this year was Gears of War 3.

That game had the most fucked up message. It could have been set in World War 2 so Marcus was killing Nazis and he still wouldn't have been likeable by comparison.

Also
There was only 1 thing I was expecting from Battlefield 3, that it was going to look nice. I didn't even get that. It wasn't as bad as Gears of War but still what a disappointment, and I wasn't even expecting it to be good.

The worst game I've played so far this year is Catherine. Way to go, Japan, you've made yet another terrible game with a dating sim tire-ironed into it, then populated it with a cast of completely unlikeable characters. Let's hear it for Japan, everyone!
Question... Have you ever played a bad game from another country? And, when you did... did you blame the country itself?

Looking through my most recently purchased games I got amazed that only the last three are from 2011. I know I tend to wait a while before I buy games, but damn... Well, that leaves Deus Ex: HR, Batman: Arkham City and Dark Souls.

Dark Souls is my worst game of the year by default.

I present to you, my biggest let-down (even bigger than Forever) of the decade, Stronghold 3.

We were told, "We listen to our fans, we will go back to basics and strive towards what made Stronghold 1 such a great game." "We learned from our mistakes with Stronghold 2."
We were given, a product which barely resemble Stronghold gameplay, with a lot of bugs and broken mechanics (multiplayer didn't even function the first week, hell the game wasn't even properly starting for 80% of the users), some content that was taken out was: Skirmish and co-op mode (which was promised from start).
Even if they manage to patch it into a functioning software, that somewhat resemble what they promised, it still gets my reward.

Hyperdimension Neptunia for PS3.
Seriously.

Most boring turn by turn combat ever made, including the recent titles on the Atelier series, complete with stupidely huge arenas where you can't even see your party.
Horrible graphisms.
Horrible music.

Brink, DNF or Rage aren't even in the same league.

Brink was a letdown - poorly optimised, and came in a satured market against TF2, Call Of, Counter strike, etc, but it's not really THAT bad.
DNF was bad, but hey, at least there's the Duke in it.
Rage... well, as far as I know it's just a generic shooter poorly ported on PC, didn't play it.
