The worst game of this generation.

Keeping in mind that any "worst games" thread is going to be highly subjective (some folks hated Oblivion, but to me it's a top 10 all time favorite, and you might feel that way about some of my least favorite games)...

Cities XL. A complete disaster, as every design decision was made with a mind toward getting players of a city builder to sign up for an online community that had the same price as a World of Warcraft subscription but not a shred of new content. It was merely the right to trade resources with other players---and trying to do the same in singleplayer from the AI's world market meant paying them a dollar for a dime's worth of goods. Absolutely the worst game in recent memory and one of the worst games of all-time. Cities XL 2011 is poor-to-mediocre because at least the game's economy is self-contained. But the original was absolutely disgustingly bad.

The Witcher. I told you this was subjective. But I found the story insipid, the characters dull, and the combat to be a shining reminder of why I hate Bioware's Aurora engine with every ounce of my gamer's soul (and why I ultimately didn't like KOTOR either.)

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. I hate to slag on this game because I can acknowledge and respect the good craftsmanship that went into it. It's well-designed. It's also fucking depressing and WAY too bleak for my tastes. I just flat-out didn't enjoy it.

The worst ever? X2, hands down. I wanted a good space game that was not an MMO, and well, still looking...

Is it just me, or should the title of this thread be changed to "Worst Game of this Generation that you played" or something of the like? Most of the games listed are Triple-A games that are miles better than any shovelware that comes out every week.

Because slagging on shovelware's too easy. Discussing why someone didn't like Oblivion or Portal or Mass Effect is interesting and sheds light on how even the best games aren't for everyone. Discussing why Imagine: Baby is a boil on the ass of the medium is a circle jerk.

Hmm...Rather tough choice my good man. Let me think......Ah! In my generation the worst game I have to have played would honestly have to be..ummm hmmm....This is hard, out of games I played the worst would have to be Starwars galaxies(which was alright but just really really bland) for the mainstream one and for non-mainstream it would probobly have to be Mod nation racers, reasons being that I was looking forward to a online multiplayer racer, then I got pretty poorly done servers(which in fairness could be my own systems fault but this is the worst for me so it doesnt really apply to overall). Those would have to be the ones I'd pick, but only because I'm not picky, hell Me and my brother played Dog Days and we had an alright time with it.

Yea, it really has, but to be fair, most of us know enough to avoid playing those types of games, so our views are a little.....candy coated? Yea, I'll go with that, but really you can't expect us to judge games we've never played, OR for us to go and play games we know are going to suck. That's just not nice.

And seriously though, The Last Remnant was terrible.

I get that, but could we really say that a game like Portal is the "Worst Game of the Generation"? I don't know...I just feel like the title is too...strong? Is "strong" the right word?

Mercenaries 2 for me. That game felt like a bad early ps2 game. I'm just glad I borrowed it from a friend and didn't spend any money on it.

Well, the worst game in recent years was by far Oblivion.
It was a buggy mess, had shitty combat, a mediocre story, and overall was just a shit game.
I've played it on both PC and 360, and the mods didn't redeem the shittiness for me.
While I heartily agree that the stock combat for Oblivion is a grindy mess with a single mod (The Deadly Reflex Mod To Be Precise) which adds many appealing combat elements to the game that I will not describe here for fear of getting too wordy. I didn't really enjoy the main story in Oblivion, but I don't agree that it was shit. Sure it wasn't as compelling as the Morrowind story, but it still held some attraction. As for buggy I haven't had the same experience as you. Or maybe you hold a higher standard for games. It wasn't buggy like, say, Red Dead Redemption, but if I think hard I could probably remember a few bugs. I will agree that Oblivion lacked the atmosphere of Morrowind, and the painfully ugly armor and faces in the game made me spend all my time in 1st person so I wouldn't have to look at them. Still, I had fun playing it and would say there were much worse games to go on this list. Im gonna have to go with Splinter Cell Conviction as it was a veritable slew of disappointments. The lack of the weekly updates they promised, the terrible matchmaking in co-op, the lack of any actual stealth element, and the addition of stupid gimmicky tricks for Sam. (Ie. the mark and execute, the sonar goggles, the last known position bullshit) My list goes on but I think I have done enough complaining for one post.

The worst one I played was Two Worlds. Never before had I ever returned a game to the rental store within an hour of renting it.

Dragon Age. How it got such amazing ratings is beyond me. It was utterly generic, shallow, limited and pointless in every way. There is nothing even mildly entertaining or even interesting throughout the entire game.

I don't get mad easily. I have a really long fuse. But by the end of this one... all I felt was contempt. And anger. The anger being mostly due to the fact they called this piece of shit "the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate", which was a blatant, massive lie to get people to buy it, and I'm the sucker. They are both set in fantasy worlds, that is where the similarities end.

Basically I've never felt more cheated and that's why for me DAO gets my worst game of the generation vote. Over a year later and still thinking about this puts me in a bad mood.

Seven Kingdoms: Conquest-
I thought the interface was a little clunky, and the way things upgraded was annoying, plus resource gathering was ridiculous. it could have been fun I suppose, but even with all fo the great parts about it, the flaws simply outnumbered it by too much.

Enchanted Arms.

Well, actually I didn't play it. I wouldn't touch the game with a mile long stick.
Technically, I watched my sister play it. God, it was so bad. She's a weeaboo and even she agreed it was awful.
Story line wise I'll agree with you but I think the Combat system actually had some promise. The only reason I played it for as long as I did was the Combat was actually fun and interesting. It's just a shame that there was no real reason to keep any of the creatures in your party since they couldn't learn new skills or contribute anything after a couple of levels. I loved having the Giant King Penguin in my group even if he did take up half of my side of the board.

If you get rid of the horrible story, the bad interface, the terrible level design, but kept the combat system and tweaked it around a bit then the game would actually be fun.

As for my thoughts on the worst game of this generation....

Blue Dragon

The story was horrible, the combat was repetitive and boring and it took forever to actually do anything. I tried to get into it and played it for about 2 hours before I just said screw it and went and sold it back to Gamestop. There might be a worse game that I've blocked out of my memory. This is just the most recent one that I can think of.

Fall Out 3. Only because I haven't played New Vegas, which could be worse.
You should try New Vegas. I actually didn't take very well to playing Fallout 3 and I wasn't very keen on trying out New Vegas since I usually despise Western themes. But I got it during the Steam Sale and I've sunk about 40 hours into it and intend to sink another 40 into it at least.

What is the worst game you have played on the current generation of consoles(home or handheld)?
For me it would probably be Too Human. It was just a slow clunky mess with about five enemy types which were reused over and over.

Although in a close second is Tom Clancy's EndWar simply because it refused to do what I told it to. The voice command was a poorly implemented gimmick and seemed to work depending on how the game was feeling that day.

So what are yours?
Far Cry 2 was far worse than Too Human. I could actually have some fun playing Too Human and the story wasn't half bad. I really can not say enough negative things about Far Cry 2.

The demo for Kane and Lynch 2. Gave me a migraine and made me nauseous. Other bad games just blinded me with bloom, but they really went the extra mile with that shaky cam.

I say the demo, because I haven't played the rest of the game, so, for all I know, it might get better later.
Actually that demo's from about half way through...

...GAH why am I helping, the Kane & Lynch games are my guilty pleasures :O I never had a problem playing K&L2, the camera effect was implemented well enough to be honest, though it was kind of pointless apart from giving the game a unique vibe. And I played half of it under the influence of alcohol and didn't have any problems. Then I won a copy and played it through twice without problems. The first game I could only play once though, I enjoyed it, but the control scheme was fucked. The plot was better than the 2nd though. Totally worth my $15 :p I would have bought the second for the same price too, if I hadn't won it that is.

Uhm, yes...

OT: Most disappointing for me? I would say Civ 5 but it only disappointed me because I simply relied on praise when I got it but didn't even look at what I was getting. I actually had no idea it wasn't an RTS, but turn-based. The only turn based game other than FF I have ever liked is Greed Corp. But as I said, that was my fault I didn't like it... so I'm gonna have to say...

Modern Warfare 2. Mainly because I never play multiplayer online, so I bought it under the impression that it would have a kickass single player campaign to rival the original MW, and on top of that include some fun LAN maps. Unfortunately the single player was full of more plot holes than a homeless bums undergarments, and was shorter than the skirt of the neighbourhood slut. And about as satisfying.
