The Worst Troll Ever?

I picked up Prince of Persia (2008) for a couple of bucks in a closing down sale recently and decided that while I was playing it again I'd get the last of the trophies, so I popped over to Gamefaqs to check the board for some tips on the Combo Specialist trophy. What I found instead was a user called streetfighter76 who has managed to get a thread dedicated to him here with 200 posts.

According to the OP, this guy has been doing the usual stuff of trashing the game and talking about how super he is in real life but, unlike the typical trolling style of dropping in to start an inflammatory thread then disappearing, when I actually checked the rest of the board almost every single thread from late 2010 onward had a reply from this guy essentially saying 'blah blah stupid game is stupid lol'.

I decided to post about it because, even by trolling standards, it seems unusually creepy to troll the same board for well over a year.

About POP 08 in general though I don't get the complete hate for it. I rate it better than Warrior Within (great story really interesting, but it found it very tedious and hated the combat system, and is it my imagination or are the graphics worse than Sands of Time?) POP 08 is just stunning game visually, it does have some flaws but its no where near as bad as people make it out to be.

For the record, I loved the PoP 08. It wasn't the best game I've ever played but the searing waves of hate it received were bamboozling.

Although I never did play the Sands of Time trilogy, I'm ashamed to admit.

Meh, it happens over GameFAQs. Especially if the board is really dead-ish, and that one seems like it. It doesn't justify his trolling I'm just saying he's not the only one. "Claiming" boards happens. I don't know why the mods didn't step in, though, but modding over at GameFAQs can sometimes be, well, complicated.

Well, I wouldn't call that "a typical troll". It is a legit tactic but some of the most epic trolls I've seen are the ones who keep the flames going. Also, their names remain for a long time. When they build a reputation, they can start a flame war merely by posting. Over at the Pencil+Paper RPGs board people are still mentioning Cosmetor. I didn't catch the guy and from the sounds of things he was active a not really long before I started frequenting the board, probably a 2-4 months before me or so. And I've been going that board since 2009-ish, I think.

I do applaud this one's persistence, though, some trolls would just get bored after a while but he has patience and dedication...also a lot of free time and nothing useful to do with it.

I wouldn't consider that trolling, that's being dedicated to an opposing point of view from series fans. Given how long the series has endured, I can see how someone who really doesn't likt it might become fairly dedicated to promoting their point of view and trying to prevent people from supporting the product in hopes that it dies.

True trolls are pretty rare, for the most part a "troll" usually just winds up being someone with a strongly held position you don't agree with.

I'd imagine the guy in question spends a lot of time on Gamefaqs forums, and might even be one of the mods there under another account, for him simply posting an occasional message or three every day into the forum is a trivial investment of time.

I am so involved in message forums while doing other stuff because I'm disabled IRL (and yes, my life is sad and pathetic, brain damage sucks). I've found a lot of people who are active in message boards usually have similar reasons, or are either online professionally (doing messages during down time/being on standby for a job that has them online constantly) or connected in some way to one site or another.

There is an opinion and there is going overboard. And ultimately, how does his view help, since people visiting the board presumably own the game. It's not like they would suddenly rewind time and not buy it. Unless I missed out on the sands of time that comes with the CDs.

Also, I can confirm that what he does is legit trolling. Not on topic, incites flames and he's not the only person to do it. Frankly, I've seen it a lot over at GameFAQs. The reactions here make me think it might be somewhat a "local" occurrence over there.

There is a guy similar to this on youtube who used to post the same comment on every single video of every single Anberlin song on the website. He basically just does the same troll shit the guy you're talking about does except for Anberlin rather than everything on gamefaqs.

Well about PoP2008 . It was beautiful to look at . The acrobatics were fun for a while . But the story imo , was pretty bad , the combat was terrible and it was basically a giant fetch quest . Go get 200 seeds of life from, go 400 seeds of life ... Go get them ALL!

But then again , i loved the twist from warrior within , so i might be butthurt by you comment .

Oh yeah and OT : imagine if he used all that time to do something contructive

I too loved the twist, I thought it was cool revisting the past events from a different point of view, great story over all. It was the tedious combat and the I think the game ran on a bit.

Sands of time was shinier. But Warrior Within's graphics seem better than in Sands of Time.

In my opinion the WW combat system is the best in the trilogy, while SoT has the best acrobatics. Two Thrones balances the two the best.

Yes, there are. Over there, we are to trolls what trolls are to users everywhere else - rarity. As one signature says (that of Professional Troll) - "Sarcasm passes for serious here.

Joking aside, there are quite a few. It seems every board has had its share of trolls. Normally, it's not much of a problem for boards with lower population. Well, "normally" - that PoP board is an exception. And in boards with higher population, you can sort of avoid them sometimes.

It matters not, Sands of Time is the King (pun?). Although 2008 did look incredible. I think most people took exception to the fact that it was so easy. I mean, yes, it does makes sense (on paper) in platforming to cut out the middle man and have a quick reset, but I think there's something psychological in it: you don't feel as if you've failed if you're instantly returned to the last thing you jumped off. Not to mention the combat was dire (in true Prince of Persia fashion), and you couldn't fuck that up either.

Add to that a paper-thin plot (SoT had a simple story, but it felt fleshed out still) and characters that most people didn't care about and you're left with a fairly vapid experience.

Still, at least it wasn't as pathetically cynical an attempt as The Forgotten Sands. "Let's try and replicate the most well-regarded one and completely fail to understand why it's so well-regarded."

I know a youtube user who's username is drummerbadass01. He trolls music vids exculisvely, and I decided to use a sick day to argue with him about how Tim Minchin is a good comedian/musician. It was... harrowing, but I think I won becuse he blocked me. This battle lasted all fucking day.
