Comparing cocaine to video games is like comparing waffles to a potato, not even close.
Erm...
Somehow I don't think you though that through.

OT: What is there to say that hasn't been said?
The man's either a total idiot, a troll or someone that just hates fun.
I've already said I didn't, my mind isn't working well today.

But I agree with what you've said, I'm leaning towards idiot though.

I would like to see some kind of evidence for such a ridiculous claim, preferrably statistical and not quantitative.
He's a therapist, not a scientist.

It's not a protected term. Legally, we can all call ourselves therapists.

Although, people might be a little unsettled if a group of people walk into a room and introduce themselves as 'therapists'.

I claim that being a shrink is just like being a whore on a highway.

You are being paid moderate sums of money to make people feel better about themselves for some time. And after some time they feel regrets and realise that visiting you gave them some kind of illness.

To make his point, he suggested that parents listening to the program "go upstairs to your kid's bedroom and try and take the game station controller out of their hands." They will react "in the same way as an alcoholic would if you tried to take their booze. It's scary," he said. As for the claims about sleep disruption that started the whole mess, he said staying up late to play videogames causes an "endorphin high in [kids'] brains," leading to a "chemical imbalance" that disrupts behavior and learning.
Go to your kids basketball game with his friends and take away the basketball. They will react the same way an alcoholic would if you tried to take their booze. It's scary.

Go to your kids room while they're watching a movie and shut off the TV. They will react the same way an alcoholic would if you tried to take their booze. It's scary.

Go to your kids room while they're reading a book and try to take it out of their hands. They will react the same way an alcoholic would if you tried to take their booze. It's scary.

Go to your kids room while they're on the telephone and try to take it out of their hands. They will react the same way an alcoholic would if you tried to take their booze. It's scary.

Go to your kids room while they're working on an essay they haven't saved and try to restart the computer. They will react the same way an alcoholic would if you tried to take their booze. It's scary.

Just imagine what would happen if this guy and the "Video games turn people into rapists" woman got together and had kids. Those kids would have all kinds of crazy ideas about the things their peers are doing, and then even more extreme views of what the next generation does.

This is why I think psychology is a crap degree. Because there are ignorant people like him who spew this nonsense. Any type of degree or program which values personal opinion over scientific fact is a waste of time and does not prove the intelligence of a person.
Hey now, don't go badmouthing my discipline! Actual psychologists and psychiatrists use science and not opinion. You're thinking about sociology... (I kid. I kid.)

No, seriously- I would like to see this guy's credentials and professional affiliations. No decent professional association (like the APA) would grant this guy membership, when he is spouting off these statements without having studies and data to back it up.

People should just ignore his dumb ass. Eventually these foolish people will lose all credibility and go away, and be replaced with people like this [http://janemcgonigal.com/play-me/].
Didn't you SEE that picture of him? Dude's got like... FOUR books on his desk. He must be for real.

Here's an idea: go find someone who is studying for an exam and try to take their book. Or better yet, go up to anyone doing anything and for no reason and with no words, just try to take whatever they're holding and walk away.

Dude's obviously never tried playing videogames. I think he should do a survey of gamers noses. I think he'll find that gaming does not in any way damage the septum and sinuses in the manner that cocain does, thus proving beyond a doubt that gaming is not like coke.
Or he could just ask any normal human being to tell him this and save him the trouble.

ANYTHING would piss me off if you took it away from me when I was using it. My DS, my sketchbook, a roll of toilet paper.

THIS JUST IN! Toilet paper is the cocaine of this generation!

Take the controller out of my hand? You might as well slap me across the face, that would also piss me off. I'm pretty sure it'd piss someone off who isn't even a dedicated gamer.

If video games create mental stimulation, then success! I'm able to achieve a natural high through interactive media. If that's a bad thing, then I guess I could always go back to being depressed and bored.

you can do a test like this with anything and get the same results.

"Imagine the reaction you'd get from someone if you:

1: Take away their clothes in public. They'd try to get their clothes back by force if you didn't give it back. Their reaction must mean that clothing is addictive!

2: Take away their wallet. They'd try to get it back. Their reaction must mean that money and everything else that might be in a wallet is addictive!

3: Punch them in the face. They'd be upset and try to hurt you back. Their reaction suggests that not needing medical attention is addictive!

4: Put a gun to their friend's head. They will try to save their friend. That must mean that human beings are addictive!

5: Deprive someone of water for days. They finally find water, but you don't let them drink. They won't care about your rules and try to drink anyways, even fight you for the water. That must mean that water is addictive!

I'm so smart! I must be a therapist too!"

In all seriousness, where'd this maniac get his degree anyway? "the university of dunce cap"?

Also, if you split up the word 'therapist', you get 'the rapist'. Just thought I'd point that out(See, I can make ridiculous claims too).
I don't know if you were intentionally referencing it or not, but you get a cookie for reminding me of an SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skit: "I'll take the rapist for $200." "That's 'Therapists.' That's 'Therapists,' not 'The Rapists....'"

"If you take a kids videogame station away he will react like an alcoholic would" what kind of bullshit is that? You might as well say sex is corrupting this generation! "Sex causes an endorphin rush in the brain, therefor it is EVVUUUUUUULLLLLLLLL!"

If someone stopped you in the middle of sex, i´m pretty sure you´d be pissed to.
if someone stopped you in the middle of sex...and it wasnt the other person your....having sex with (just like video games or books dont go HEY NO MORE GO AWAY NAO).....they would get knocked the fuck out...and wake up feeling wrong...(not rape thats not cool....just ya know..fart on them or something foul)
