I went swimming yesterday and in the changing room there were loads of blokes walking around naked. It doesn't bother me that they are doing that but, as it was a Sunday, there were a number of children in there too, around 7 years old or so, and the blokes that were walking around naked had nothing to do with the kids (E.G wasn't a parent). Someone also said that there was a woman in the ladies changing room walking around naked while a young lad was in there.

People shouldn't be walking around naked when there are young children around, even if it's a changing room. If i walked around my garden naked and my neighbour's young children saw me i would probably be arrested for it. What do you think?
I really don't think nudity should be so taboo. For us consenting adults, a lot of the titillation would be nonexistent if we weren't scared shitless of our own bodies and each other's. That being said, I must admit it sounds odd that there would be people just walking around naked in a changing room anywhere but Hedonism, but then again, I live in America, and from what our media and my friends who have globe-trotted tell me, the stereotype of us being the most sexually repressed first-world, non-Muslim nation on the globe is actually true.

That being said, if there's either one guy or a couple of guys just walking around with their third leg a-hangin', it would seem to me that someone's either trying to show off said third leg or show off what a beautiful and unique little snowflake they are. Cookie.

Kids won't get psychologically scarred from seeing boobs, vaginas or penises, regardless of how "ugly" they may be. HOPEFULLY, instead they'll see that people come in all sizes, shapes and forms and won't grow up thinking Barbies are anatomically correct or something.
Actually, i'm pretty sure seeing vaginas would be traumatizing, since they'd have to stick their heads up there to see that. However, if you mean vulvas, then you'd be correct. Aside from that, i agree 100% with your statement.

How about everyone stop putting sarcastic and know-it-all replies to the OP and consider for a second that some 5-8 year olds can actually grasp an association with sex and nudity, may be aware that sex is something they shouldn't be concerned about at their age (especially in front of their parents, as most children try to avoid the subject of sex by this point when in parental company, and act ignorant of it), and that having something largely associated with it stuck in the room with them can cause awkwardness for the child. I'm not saying it will traumatise them or anything so harsh, but heck, even I don't like seeing all that shit hanging out... mostly because I find male genitalia to look like something hanging out of the side of a sharks mouth... but still, it would be nice to have the option of getting changed in privacy without having to see, or being seen.

Edit: I should point out that here in England, most of the public changing rooms one visits do have only changing booths, and no communal changing area. Only one place I've been to had a communal changing room.

Growing up in England it seemed to be the rule that if it was a communal room, you changed under a freaking towel, nobody wants to see your junk.. if you don't have that option, you change, you don't mess around chatting while your stuff is hanging out.

Also, children were expected to be functioning on their own once they were past the age where their parent had to dress them.

sarcasm aside i seriously agree with the OP.

And now that no nudity in changing rooms is a law i conserve myself the right to shoot any naked children in public on sight. I mean come on! they cant do that! "Im gonna run, naked, away from my mummy in the park towards this tall hooded man in a van!" stupid kids...

also: you cant get naked in a garden because ITS A GARDEN!!!!
you can get naked in a changing room because its a room where people change!!!!...

(from completely innocent to seen everything)

This is so crazy that I barely know what to say. Children should be protected from knowing what human bodies look like?

People walking around naked in a completely sensible place with absolutely no sexual overtones are not a threat to children. This is insane.

This is the most remarkably Puritanical and illogical complaint I've seen in a very long time, possibly ever. And I'm from a very conservative area, growing up alongside a lot of very religious, very Puritanical folks.

I truly, truly hope this is just trolling.
There's this lovely thing called common decency. I don't know about you but when I'm in a changing room I dont very much enjoy seeing people's old sweaty nutsacks. I'm a bit confused as to why asking someone to put a towel on seems like such sexually repressive religious zealotry to you.

I used to go to a pool that solved the problem entirely. They had kids' changing rooms and adults' changing rooms.

its the human body GET OVER IT! before clothes were invented what did you think we wore? a leaf that magically covered our genitalia? i dont understand whats with this "oh no a penis/vagina/ass! its a vile and disgusting and you should be ashamed for what GOD GAVE YOU!" its not gonna scar them for life like you think. and i hate to say it,dont you think your being a TAD HYPOCRITICAL by the fact that YOUR changing infront of children yourself?

then there is the difference between a garden and a changing room...a garden is out in the open, and a changing room is a ROOM for changing in...

im hate to say it but its people like you that shield our children too much and make them unprepared to face the real world. you cant shield them forever! better show them what things are now rather then later. instead of saying "oh...um...jimmy thats...umm...called a...umm...*continues to act like a dolt*". i understand shielding them from alot of things like drugs, swearing, blood, guts, rape, ect. but the human body? its better to teach children to NOT be ashamed on how you look. why do you think so many people are worried about their looks and nothing else? we need to get out of this rut and evolve here people...im sorry but thats just how i feel...

Nudity is a terrible and unnatural thing that children should not be exposed to.
Breasts and penises are filthy lies and young ones are so impressionable. What if they get it into their heads that everyone has genitals.

What if one saw a bum and realised everybody poops.

OH LAWD THE HUMANITY!

I think a lot of you guys are underestimating what children know and think about if you really think that a kid can see someone naked and not think of anything sexual.

If nothing else, they can clearly feel discomfort about it. I defy you to tell me that you haven't seen or known a little boy not wanting to follow his mom to the ladies' room.

It's not about sexual repression, that's the entire point - it's not a sexual situation. It's just a perfectly normal, utilitarian nakedness. People walking around naked in a changing room is not a violation of "common decency". That's absurd.

And the "oh god I have to see naked old people" thing? Grow the fuck up.

Maybe if you had seen more naked old people in changing rooms growing up you wouldn't be so traumatized by something so profoundly stupid.

Edit: I did laugh at the cartoon though :D

Past diaper age, the only objections I've heard is from feeling like they're still in diapers, because they (often mistakenly) think they're old enough to safely wait outside the restroom.

How DARE people be naked in a changing room. They should all be publicly whipped and then shot!

Seriously, what?

I get what most people are trying to say in this thread about how the human body shouldn't be seen as disgusting, and I respect that. But what about the people who know that it shouldn't be disgusting, but just prefer to not see a naked body. You can't tell me that's religious zealotry, that's just personal preference.
But in this situation, you know the risks of going into a changing room.
That's why I never do and I just wear my swim shorts under my shorts and just take the shorts off next to the pool.
Because it's easier not having to deal with the changing room.
