The problem is the water type shares the same form factor and colour palette of Piplup. Once you see that, you can't easily unsee it.

The green dude definitely deserves a fedora and cane though...

I was looking at some screenshots and noticed that your leading Pokemon doesn't follow you around anymore...maybe it hasn't been added in yet or something...

This happens nearly every generation, where people will hate the starters regardless of what they look like. I did it in fourth generation when I saw those. I found them to be too cutesy and uninspired, but if anything, they had more detail put into them than Charmander or Chikorita did, and ended up having awesome evolutions.
Once people get used to them is when you see some form of acceptance. The water of this generation seems like it's going to be the odd-one out, and I see the justification as to why.

I just think that people want to be impressed, and you do not usually get that form first-stage evolutions with an actual evolutionary line. Can you say that you were impressed with the original trio? They are extremely basic, with Bulbasaur being the most creative of the three, and through observation, was chosen less frequently than the other two.

The fakes were a million times better than this. I think i will break the chain of my play and for once... not take the water type. I mean look at it. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THAT OTTER?! I love otters, but is it wearing a turtle neck? Was its mother a snowman? The shell makes it look so pathetic. I hate them all to be honest with grass being the least stupid looking.

I have to say, Out of the three of them, I think I'll have to pick the Grass Starter.
Water looks silly, and I really dont think I can trust a Pig with my life in battle, so Treeko Clone it is! (Even if it does look like it's undressing me with it's eyes)

Last generation had ridiculously cute starters, but their evolutions were only "meh." The fire pig is cute and the water panda/otter/snowman is freaky/cute in its own little way. I don't know what to think of the grass one. Let's hope the evolutions don't turn out crappy?
