I guess the creators started smoking/inhaling/ingesting whatever the Final Fantasy creators are.

The new Team Evil will probably just be Sephiroth...

Okay, I don't like ANY of these starters.

The first two gen startes were awesome, though I wasn't a big fan of Venusaur and I found the Totodile line a bit 'meh'.
The third gen was good too if you ask me, though I wasn't a fan of Sceptile all that much.
4th gen was kinda lame, but I still liked the Piplup line.

This time, though... no.
Maybe the evolutions will be better, though, or they'll have some other redeeming qualities about them.

The stubby arms on the red panda fire type kinda ruin it although the evolved forms have some serious potential. The other two are just weird, like they threw a bunch of animal/pokemon parts in a hat and had to pick out a bunch for each at random.

I mean... Couldn't they have just gone with these [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/global/media/images/articles/article/7291/NewPokemon.png]? I like them so much more. I was so hyped about that list because they reminded me of the first gen, while still being new and creative. These new starters? Well, we have a... pigrabbit, which is... water? A fat... badger? Raccoon? For fire? As well as a... Well I don't even know what that thing it... but it's grass.

I've never had a complaint with any of the newer generations of pokemon before. I suppose there is a first time for everything though. I'm disappointed.

Not keen on either of them, however i do notice a firey fox, which has potential in later evolutions, so id pick the fire one.

Let's see. The grass one looks like a toucan mated with a gecko, the fire one looks like a raccoon that's gone through a gauntlet of yaoi-obsessed fangirls redrawing it, and the water one....oh the water one. Piglet+Peter Rabbit+Marill=Nightmare. I had such high hopes for this generation too. Oh well...

They're starting to look too detailed...if these are genuine then the cartoony fun has gone, instead we have these odd detailed anime things.

These Pokemon seem to be more "real" to me, bearing a lot more detail than the normal cartoon type features previous creatures have born.

I'm a little disappointed that the triangle remains with fire-water-grass as its points. With Black and White as the game suffixes and a complete graphical overhaul I was hoping for innovation in something that would matter. As in dark-fighting-psychic becoming a focus.

It also slightly damages my hopes for a new type.

It isn't a surprise that nothing major changes wise has been announced so far, what with the recent article on HG/SS's sold units.

I've always liked the starter waters, I always thought they looked the coolest. That being said only once did I prefer the Grass Type over it and that was the Third Generation with Treeko (in 15 minutes he saved me 15% or more on my bike insurance). That being said, if the color versions are legit, I might be leaning towards the grass again.... maybe, it's the only one whose goofyness is overshadowed by just how utterly bizarre it is. I'll have to see what they really look like to pass judgment, or see their evolved forms.

But now I want to see the first Bird, Rodent, and Bug you meet. I mean, if the starters are this odd...

That may just be it. Although, even with just the silhouettes, I still don't like them It's probably the shape, they just don't feel Pokemon-y if that makes sense.

The Piplup family. Adorable critter to a giant steel penguin.
Funk, you just keep getting more and more awesome, even if you have no idea who I am.

OT: It's pretty much guaranteed that they're going to look terrible. I've given up hope already.

I think the pokemon creators really started the inbreeding when the time for a 4th generation came.
The 3rd generation had its flaws and a bleeping warning light as to where the series was going, but it also had its upsides like the starters and cacturne and such.

I am not quite as excited about Black and White ...

Considering this is the new generation, I wouldn't put it past them to possibly move away from the traditional fire/water/grass starters. I would love to see some kind of Ghost/Dark/Psychic choice or something like that. And seeing that these silhouettes aren't 100% clear on what type they are, who knows.
Ghost/Dark/Psychic doesn't really work.

Fighting/Dark/Psychic might, except for the obvious flaw in picking Pyschic as your rival will have a pokemon your STAB attacks won't effect at all.

Ghost can never be a starting Pokemon due to how unbalancing it would be for that first fight; Pokemon tend to only have a normal type move to start, so if you picked ghost you'd always win, while if you picked something weak to ghost you'd always lose.
