These Pokemon seem to be more "real" to me, bearing a lot more detail than the normal cartoon type features previous creatures have born.

I'm a little disappointed that the triangle remains with fire-water-grass as its points. With Black and White as the game suffixes and a complete graphical overhaul I was hoping for innovation in something that would matter. As in dark-fighting-psychic becoming a focus.

It also slightly damages my hopes for a new type.

It isn't a surprise that nothing major changes wise has been announced so far, what with the recent article on HG/SS's sold units.
Problem with that is, unlike the pattern held up by Water/Fire/Grass, Psychic type moves can't hurt Darks at all. Nothing, nada, Zero damage done. And by recent standards (where you gain a second type that is an advantage over your rival/become weak against the type you're powerful against) the psychic type would be at a greater disadvantage. Much more then Bulbasaur is to Charmander.

This is the same issue with Dark/Psychic/Ghost, as Ghosts aren't weak against psychic. The triangle they have now is simple to understand and simple to use especially for children playing Pokemon so they wouldn't change it.

Now those as secondary types to the starters as they reach their 3rd evolution? That'd be pretty cool.

I don't care what everyone else thinks, I like the racoonish one (if it does look anything like the coloured picture). It could be fun, especially if it gets fangs or something. :D

Grass and Fire ok but the water one? i mean try to make water pokemon look like they at least spend some life in a body of water. It looks like a pig and donkey had a head on collison with each other and then was t-boned by a blue paint truck.

I don't really like the look of these new Pokemon. There's just something about them that seems... off.
They're starting to look too detailed...if these are genuine then the cartoony fun has gone, instead we have these odd detailed anime things.
That may just be it. Although, even with just the silhouettes, I still don't like them It's probably the shape, they just don't feel Pokemon-y if that makes sense.
I get what you mean, they're just looking too arbitrary or something.

I think the pokemon creators really started the inbreeding when the time for a 4th generation came.
The 3rd generation had its flaws and a bleeping warning light as to where the series was going, but it also had its upsides like the starters and cacturne and such.
It's the Daycare Center, they're breeding these these... creatures.

Oh I'm suuuuure you don't know where that egg came from, old man.

Am I the only one who actually likes the look of these Pokemon?
No. I liked them once I realised the bottom left wasn't a Charmander cross breed. And by the potientally faux images, they could be pretty cool.

A Red Panda fire starter? Consider me sold!

ALSO: it's pretty sad to complain about silhouettes. Let's at least wait for the official images before we start ranking them with the other starters.

Show of hands. Who thinks this generation will kill the franchise? *raises hand*
Show of hand: Who thinks any pokemon games will sell millions even if Nintendo were to just remaking the same game with updated graphic?

*Raises both hands*

Haha, that's great. It's funny when something as simple as this gets way out of hand.

In principal I agree with you, but with Water/Steel along with Ground/Grass coming into play, I would say that the starter triangle principle has already been broken and thus a new broken triangle wouldn't be amiss. Psychic not hurting Dark shouldn't matter as it still plays to the "being weak to" principle, just slightly more accentuated. Your example of a differing triangle doesn't however and has no place.

Simplicity shouldn't factor either, this is the fifth generation of these creatures and it would be a safe bet that anyone who will be interested is interested already and with Pokemon being heavily populated by competitive play I think an increase in depth/complexity (not that changing starters really is) wouldn't really alienate anyone.

The real reason there won't be a change is laziness and reluctance. I dont blame Game Freak, I'm just disappointed. Even though those images aren't real, you can still imagine them being similar to what has been conceived - except maybe the water pig being the grass type.

I realize I'm a total prick for judging them on their silhouettes, but I already don't like them. :(
You're not the only one. Goddammit those things are ugly, real or not. Give me a charmander any day over any of these new-fangled pokeymans.

To summarize:

It took me like 10 seconds to check this. Even the guy at deviantart mentions that his picture pops up if you type "Pokemon Black White Starters" into Google.

Considering this is the new generation, I wouldn't put it past them to possibly move away from the traditional fire/water/grass starters. I would love to see some kind of Ghost/Dark/Psychic choice or something like that. And seeing that these silhouettes aren't 100% clear on what type they are, who knows.
Shouldn't that be Psychic/Dark/Fighting? Dark kind of beats both the others you posted.

But the top looks very electric... maybe this was the 'big difference' they were hinting at?
that could be right. i don't know what kind of mice they have in japan, but a LOT of electric pokemon are rodent-like. the top one sort of looks like pikachu on its stomach with a curly tail-maybe there will be an electric starter instead of a fire.

then again, when has nintendo ever changed up ANYTHING???

Is that water pokemon a pigrabbit? o_O
The Pokemon designers have taken a little too strong dose of their "Pokemon designing drug" now it seems.
