There's always so much hate towards Thief 3...I actually rather enjoyed it. Not saying it's better or worse than the first two, just enjoyable for different reasons.

Anyway, Thief 4. I've heard rumors that it'll be set in modern times. If it is, that pretty much precludes any supernatural elements (or makes them much less likely). I kinda hope it's not through. The City was a great setting and I'd miss the Hammerites too much (and, to a more narrow extent, the Mechanists, but they're gone for good of course).

Awesomeo! Time to download the first three, anyone know if they're on Steam? I assume they are, everything is.

Only Thief 3 is. But the other two are so old you probably won't be able to play them anyway because your PC is too awesome (I know mine is)

This makes me excited. But they'll probably fuck it up. So it also makes me sad.

"Tell them it's over... Tell them Garret is done"

...Sure thats what you said THREE GAMES AGO SUCKA.

Not sure about Vista but Thief runs fine under XP. (I'm in the midst of a replay, actually.) Depending on your particular setup it may take some dicking around to get it running; if you need help with it, check out the Thief forums at TTLG.com [http://www.ttlg.com/forums/], they'll get you going.

And I'll add my name to the list of people who thought Thief 3, awful name notwithstanding, wasn't a bad game at all. Robbing the Cradle was particularly mind-blowing. On the whole it doesn't even approach the first two games, but that's a testament to their brilliance as much as it is a criticism of Deadly Shadows. They're an incredibly tough act to live up to.

And, just as a quick side note, I often hear a lot of flak for Deus Ex 2, but I rather enjoyed the game. I thought it was fun! But I suppose I'm in the minority.
There aren't much people who hate it because its a bad/broken game, they hate it because its a huuge letdown in comparison to its predecessor. Seen as Deus Ex 1 was pretty much one of the deepest and most advanced games there were for its time (and currently) and Deus Ex 2 was nothing but an okay mainstream-ish game.

Hell yes!!! I've been waiting for this for so long and, for better or for worse, it's coming.

I still wonder if they will use any of the plot elements my group thought up for our movie.

I could probably make it work by downgrading my video card drivers but I don't want to do that just for one game...

Well errr.... *cough* I'm a mac user, I just have Vista through boot camp, for the exact reason of visiting old games that I love (read: Deus Ex)

What is a "Thiaf"? Or is it pronounced "Thifourf"?

Dectilon said:
Thi4f?!?

Why don't they just put "z0rz" at the end and be done with it...
That's the hardest I've laughed in a while, lol. "Thi4fz0rz!1"

Nice! I remember getting Thief 1 for my birthday when it first came out and jumping around the house in giddy happiness!

First thought: Nice!
Second thought: Why's it being spelt Thi4f?
Thrid thought: Oh crap... a repeat of Deus Ex 2?
I imagine it's being spelled "Thi4f" because someone in marketing thought it was clever.

And, just as a quick side note, I often hear a lot of flak for Deus Ex 2, but I rather enjoyed the game. I thought it was fun! But I suppose I'm in the minority.

Back on topic: Let's hope they do it right! Stealthy, you're not a tank, steampunk, less magic and fantastical crap. Why can't we have a medieval or steampunk stealth game what does NOT involve something supernatural? Sheesh.
I enjoyed Deus Ex 2, but it couldn't compare to the original - the original was globe spanning and had multiple nonlinear pathways through the problems, whereas Deus Ex 2 just felt so dumbed down.

YAY!!!!!!

I just hope its not as big a let-down as Velvet Assassin. Remember guys, non-linear maps with multiple ways to get through the maps and solve puzzles!
