Online Dependent games, Games that shines more by Online part in games then the overall game (Major offender: COD, Battlefield.)
Games that are in route of pay-to-win (Buy items, win more)
Any games that looks and plays like farmvill
Any DRM that requires online every time even for solo player games
When Side quests takes more time then the main story
Any online game that make you play with over powerd people while you are weakest there

Quicktime events. They can be done well but for the most part I'm just bored of them by now. I was looking forward to Ninja Gaiden 3 since I think they kinda dropped the ball on the second and had to make up for it, then I saw that it has quicktime events and my interest went out of the window. Maybe I'll rent it or something.

"Realistic tactical shooter." Some of you have probably played the original Rainbow Six games and noticed that you had to have planned nearly every move you make if you had plans of surviving a fire-fight. Now in Rainbow Six Vegas 2 you can pretty much wing it. There was almost nothing in the way of tactics in Vegas 2 because of this, and it wasn't realistic because your flesh mended itself together after a while.

That's pretty much how I've seen most (if not all) modern FPS's recently. I've heard of a game that is trying to surpass our depiction of realism by making it "truly realistic". You suffer from both heavy and light wounds, you die from head and heart shots, you can carry only one gun, usually, (You may say that's just stupid but in real war pretty much only officers get pistols) there is theoretically going to be bullet-drop, (Don't even think about saying that isn't realistic...) and there will be no respawning until the round is over. (Just like in counter-Strike) I'm not quite sure what I think of they goal of perfect realism, but you have to admit it's an interesting concept. Honestly, like Yahtzee, I just can't wait until this tide of "realism" in games disappears. Hey game developers, if you want to make the most realistic game ever, just make a game about a man who has to go work in his cubical every day, trying to sell outdated hardware to people. (Don't do that, that would just be stupid)

I'm just thankful for Valve making hat-collecting mini-ga_ I mean fun FPS's that don't want to be considered "realistic shooter of the month". Just look at Valves most updated hat col_ I mean FPS, Team Fortress 2. That game is loads of fun. Ridiculous weapons, millions of hat_ I mean tons of maps to choose from, nine fun class to play as, and you can ROCKET JUMP! Oh yeah, and lets not forget the hats you can collect

Butting in here; based on what you've quoted, I do not see any hint of irony or sarcasm. A person can be turned off by to much challenge while others revel in it.
I realize but, it's just, that was the game's entire selling point, to each his own and all, but..... I dunno, that statement just itches.
Would it made it different if he named off something like the Devil May Cry series, which is renowned for its difficulty curve among its gameplay? I think it's worth just letting him have his face value statement and not see something that isn't there.

It is fair, for the topic, to say super challenging games like Demons/Dark Souls which feature a difficulty curve above most hard games, is a turn off. You won't likely see these games on this persons shelf. It's valid. Just let him have his statement of opinion.

On topic; Even though I answered earlier, I will answer anew; formula games that attempt to emulate the success of another [em]shamelessly.[/em] I sat in on the Knights of the Old Republic panel at Main theater PAX. Now I'm not a fan of Star Wars** beyond the original 3 movies, so it's possible I was being overly critical. But the gameplay of the assault on the "Eternity Vault" that volunteers played through (to end in a party wipe), felt less like star wars, and more like the next WoW game, but from Biowares chair.

[sub]** I was an Enforcer at Main Theater, which is why I was there. If I was an attendee, I wouldn't have gone to that panel. :)[/sub]
I realise but what weirded me out was that, from the statement, it seemed like the poster had actually bought Demon Soul's, (they said they won't be buying Dark Soul's because of it), so I find it strange that someone would buy a game were difficulty is the main selling point. I don't mean to insult OP, I was genuinely curious (yeah, I definitely phrased it round).

I've got a few in particular, these are the ones that instantly come to mind:

-Space Marines (although if the plot sounds decent I might give it a go)

-A dreary color palette (This completely ruins the joy for me in games, I almost never finish a game like this)

-Anything with an extremely large open world (I HATE exploring things to look for items or collectables of any sort, I go OCD in games like Fallout and they get boring fast)

-A frustrating single-player mode (I usually lean more towards multiplayer because I like to play with my friends when we're all online, and this can be enough for me to throw the single-player aside for a while)

Bioshock isn't "Rapture: The Game". Infinite has the same dystopian-style setting, the RPG style weapon/ability customisations, giant mechanical horrors and crowds of psychopathic madmen. That sounds a lot like Bioshock to me, and I actually like the new direction the series is taking.
Really? Because the way I see it you were never playing through the stories of Jack or Delta. You were playing through the history of Rapture. You were experiencing a city unlike any other. Now suddenly there is ANOTHER city? Ah suddenly Rapture is no longer unique, What? There are things exactly like plasmids in that city in the sky? Ok so now ADAM is no longer unique. What you have to get into that city and then escape? Wait a tick... this is Bioshock copy and pasted... again. Believe what you want. Buy the game if you want, I won't attempt to stop you. I will not dive in front of the door to Gamestop as you pull up and scream, "NOOOO DON'T DO IT!!!!" I just refuse to feed the man that had once upon a time been my hero who so casually copies and pastes the same story not once. But twice and then attempts to shovel it back out at me as, 'Original'. I might be a little more accepting of it if they hadn't named it Bioshock, and instead had named it something new. By naming it bioshock they sully the name, and ruin the franchise for me.

Have fun buying generic crap! :D And I honestly, and I am serious, I honestly mean that from the bottom of my heart. Because if that is all it takes to bring you happiness, who am I to argue with you? Me on the other hand? Well casually throwing away a great story of Rapture just to move on to another special town? It just isn't enough for me.
I get that they're recycling, but it's the way they're recycling that's interesting me. They're not just copypasting Rapture and connecting it to some hot air balloons, they're copypasting Rapture, attaching it to helium balloons, giving the whole thing a fresh coat of paint and putting in some actual protagonists instead of just Mission Delivery Devices and Floating Hands With Guns.

In short, it sounds like an improvement rather than a detriment. The game might actually be better than the first two.

(And if they'd named it something different, you'd have hundreds of people refusing to buy it since it was so obviously a Bioshock clone. They've kept it as a Bioshock game, and now it's being criticized for being different and innovative. Not even going to go into System Shock here.)

The big one that comes to mind is touch screen controls for DS games. I can't stand when games force you to do everything single thing on the touch screen.

Romances in games. Fuck that shit. I almost gave up on Dragon Age Origins because of it and lots of games too ¬.¬. I don't wanna see video game characters naked and shit ¬.¬ That's why the internet is there.

Pretty sure nobody would call any of those shows "anime". Stylized to look like anime, yeah. But it's still a cartoon.

It's basically calling slideshow a "movie with less frames". Not same thing, right?
Call it what you will but its all still the same. Ya its a cartoon as well but so is all of that shit from japan as well. Calling it something else does not change what it is.

A slideshow and a movie are two different things. A cartoon and an anime are just two different words for the exact same thing.
"He has four legs and fur, he's a dog."
"Ben's a bear and he's gonna eat you."

Unskippable cinematics.

I'll piece whatever story I want to out of this.

Just don't force me to watch that rubbish. I don't care. I play games for gameplay. Not characters, settings, stories or any of that other irrelevant stuff.

Too many cut scenes, selling itself as cinematic, selling itself on realism, quick time events, having nothing that competing games don't do better, unlikeable characters and being in a genre that has too many releases already.

FPS realism: Too many games with this as a selling point.
Innovation: New doesn't always mean GOOD.
Nazi's, zombies, vampires: Stop, just stop it already.
DLC: Halo and COD map packs, nuff said.
Angst: There's more to being a hero then being depressing (or a whiny 16 year old git).

P.S: can someone please explain "DRM" and "origin" to me cuz I have no idea what it fully means.

Not to be horrific pun guy, things that instantly kills me in a game.
Really turns me off, unless thre is a reason it instantly kills me.
Like facing deathclaws in fallout as a level 1 character.

Brown, gritty "realism"
Space Marines
Gun Porn (If more than four guns are mentioned by exact technical names, I tend to stop caring)
A hero whose voice sounds like he gargled gravel for a few hours everyday. (I only let this slide for Darksiders)
Protagonist wearing more armor than a tank (again, only allowed it to slide for Darksiders)

Essentially, if it's anything like: Halo, CoD, Gears of War;

Then you've lost my interest.

Oh and exceptionally whiny protagonists. Squall Lionheart is a prime example.

Too many puzzles. I hate when I spend hours solving difficult puzzles, only to be given even more boring puzzles. Sometimes, one or two is ok, and it is also ok if they don´t come straight after the last one. To many, to awfull

Turn based. Anything turn based is really hard for me to get into. For example I love RTS games, I've played games from Dune to Red Alert 3. But i can't manage to get into games like civilization.

Party based RPG's. By that i mean things like Dragon Age, and it would seem, pretty much anything else made by bioware. For starters, it's suppose to be an RPG, not a RTT, secondly, if you do control 4 characters, why is it that the main guy is the only one who can do the talking to pass speech checks etc. It's not AS annoying in dragon age, but in something like neverwinter, you are forced to pick something that has decent charisma and speech skills if you want to talk out of situations, nevermind the bard or whatever you're with who could do that just as easily.
