Zevran, Morrigan and Alistair. They make everything so much easier, which is why I'm about to start screaming because of the Circle of Magi quest.
Just kill Wynne.

That's what I did.
I could've killed her instead of going in, and avoided the whole thing? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Oh no, you still have to do it all. You just don't have to listen to her whining all the time.
So I could have, say, Alistair with me instead? Because that would help.
Oh yeah, though he might not be all that happy about wanton slaughter.

Sten, Morrigan and Zevran didn't seem to care though.

I thought Sten got pissed about everything that didn't involve killing darkspawns. Because he got fucking mad at me whenever I did ANYTHING in Redcliffe, even saving freaking Arl Eamon. God damn I hate Sten.
No he totally mellows out once you give him his sword. Give him a bunch of paintings until he tells you about it, do the sword quest and he doesn't care so much anymore.

Sten's awesome, plus he put some blatant foreshadowing for a possible future Dragon Age game in there. He's a character who doesn't have much qualms about you killing people which is nice.

His exchanges with Morrigan are interesting, though not as good as Leliana and Morrigan or Alistair and Morrigan.

Leliana and Shale is pure gold though, I highly recommend you take them out for a little walk just to hear some of the dialogue between them.

Paintings.. Can I buy them? Because making Sten useful sounds like a good idea..

Isn't Shale the companion you usually get last? Because I only started playing yesterday, and just got lost somewhere in The Fade for Circle of Magi.
You can get Shale straight after you leave Lothering, which means that it can be before Oghren, Zevran, Wynne and

Loghain

I would advise bringing Shale along for when you go to Orzammar as well. Just saying.

Alistair.
Once I had him levelled up, everyone in the bloody party could die and he'd keep on servin' a beat-down.
So, my elven mage with healing spells, and his tank-ness = everything dies

The odd thing is I found all of the other party members either pmplete pillocs or unlikeable bafoons. The only thing I couldn't live without was my greatsword and plate armour.

Wow... I actually found Wynne more useful than Morrigan. I think I might kill her when I play my Blood Mage, which is a while away.
What? She was getting all up in my grill. I said I was going to go kill some mages and she was all "Don't you care about the circle?" and I was all "No, frankly I hate the Circle." and then I killed her.

Stupid cow. I'm just being pragmatic. I want an army of Templars at my back. They have way better outfits than the smelly battle mages with their stupid cowls.

Seriously, does anyone else hate the mage headgear in this game?
That's why my mage never bothered to wear one. I must he is quite into fashion and shoes, have to, when you spend half of your time trying to impress a certain Mademoiselle from Orlais. ;)

Wait a second, Shale was the golem, right? I only borrowed the game from a friend, so no DLC for me. Going to buy a copy of it for myself later, though.
Yeah, Shale is the Stone Prisoner DLC so if you haven't got that you can't get her.

Without Shale I wouldn't have been able to be a Dragonslayer, and without Wynne as a healing battery I would have been unable to last more than 5 min.

Alistair, Leliana and Morrigan make a very good team for my shield and sword noble knight. (note: Even though I was human male, I meant the other kind of noble.)

But they don't have fireballs, or lightining and mages don't all have swords or an addiction to humming rock juice.
Also I'm a Idealist, so the whole "the circle can be saved" thing was at least worth a try, but when I found the sloth demon I started thinking I wasn't going to find any sane mages.

I found killing the tower mages to be a decision I didn't want. I also didn't want to share glory with the templars. So I spared the mages, recruited Wynne, and kept a great healer which spared me needing healing items and eventually injury kits. Also, can't have a Circle of Mages in your army if... You know... Kill all the mages and there is no Circle of Magi.

So I was pragmatic because I wanted them for my army later. XD

You get the Templars if you kill all the mages though. Army of Mage-hunters>Army of Mages :p

Trust me when I say that Morrigan and I have more than enough fireballs and lightning (and Cones of Cold)to cover the mages I could have had.

Hmmm... I could find something like that but my mage is an arcane warrior and uses Dalish armor. Though dressing Wynn up in a silly hat would definitely brighten my day.

My Wynn looks like a popsicle.
