This is a true gamer test if you were playing video games since at least 1988.

It's the oft parodied referenced Konami code, the most well known gaming meme that doesn't involve cake.
I don't know about that. There's also the one about the princess being in another castle. Or that one where all our base are belong to them.

Anyway, this is a nice opportunity to enlarge my e-peen by proving my 'true gamer' cred with some more classic cheats:

1. JUSTIN BAILEY
2. IDKFA and IDDQD
3. 19, 65, 09, 17, Start
4. A, B, A, C, A, B, B
5. Press left 13 times, and then press + or press right 13 times, and then press +
6. R2, R2, L1, R2, left, down, right, up, left, down, right, up

Have fun.

A bunch of semi-random button presses, probably on some form of Nintendo NES controller.

However if you re-arrange a few of them you get the famous Konami Code, discovered in the NES game Gradius when a dev who was tired of dying while playtesting and created the code to give him all the power-ups.

Of course I only know the code through pop-culture references as I was born in 1988 so it can't really be a 'true gamer test.'

Another possible test whose answer is less likely to be gleamed from general knowledge would be:

What game is this music from?

The Konami Code, just jumbled up.
And I didn't even need to be born in 1988 to know that that, I just needed to know a little gaming history.
Now this, this is the true gamer test:

Im going to guess, DOOM? Also sounds like some Megaman music too.
Huzzah! you got it!

Which considering it's been ported officially and unofficially to nearly every system imaginable isn't much of a surprise.

[small]Or you just read the youtube video's title and/or saw the boxart[/small]

Either way congratulations!

Wasn't Doom's noclip something like idspispopd (I'm sure it's incorrect but hopefully it's close)? No idea what it means. I think in Doom 2 they simplified it to idclip.

The first cheat code I remember using was 19, 65, 9, 17 (selecting tracks in a sound test) followed by 01, 09, 09, 02, 01, 01, 02, 04, 01, 02, 06 .

I was going to post IDDQD, but got beaten like 3 times.

How about these?
Corwin of Amber
ABBAABBA

At least, that's what I remember those cheats to be.

So, what is the music code in Doom? And do anyone remember the fog code for Rise of the Triad? (While we are at it, how do you disable the fog?) :p.

And do anyone remember the code: Comeandhaveago? (A total nightmare for young people who don't understand english). I actually really miss cheat codes, all games should have a level code, that's probably the ones i've used the most. If modern games had those, you could always skip the tutorial stages and get to the good parts quicker, how awesome would that be? Imagine a "Skip slow walking stage" code for games like Half-Life and Metro, it would improve the games immensly!

Are you thinking of Gabbagabbahey from Descent? I'm also certain that i recognize Corwin of Amber, but not sure where it's from. Maybe Warcraft?

That's it exactly. I remember it because it was just nonsensical (in my head, it's said as "I-D-SPIS-POPPED").

I wasn't alive in 1988 and I recognised that as an incorrect Konami Code. Unless it's a reference to another game's cheat, I think most gamers with a little gaming history knowledge will recognise it, alive in 1988 or not.

Is this the code for instant nukes in Command and Conquer? Not going to cheat and look it up.

You don't have to have been alive in 88 to know the Konami code, it's just a part of gaming history you hear about it everywhere now.

I never used it for Contra, but when playing Crash Bandicoot either 2 or 3 apply the code: up up down down left right left right square at the title screen. Good times.

A true gamer test would be having no memory of cheats because you never needed them.

just kidding, its because I do have terrible memory
