I'm pretty sure that's a cheat code for GTA III, probably weapons. I also remember that changing L1 to another shoulder button are also cheat codes, I think for armor and life and maybe something else.elvor0 said:R2, R2, L1, R2, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left, Down, Right, Up
I think Silent Hill 3 and/or Silent Hill: Origins (made by Konami) use it as well on the PS2. The B and A buttons are replaced of course.LaoJim said:Very little. I recognized it as the Konami code (although apparently its not) as its become a meme.Msanchez said:Up, Up, down, down, left, right, right, left, A, B, B, A, select, start.
What does this mean to you?
However not owning a NES or SNES, I never actually owned any games that used it.

There were variants in several Konami games. I couldn't tell you specifically which one this is from, but I've got what I think are all of the variants hardwired into my brain from years of playing. I'm 99% sure this (with the inverted left right at the end) is accurate for at least one game.Creator002 said:I wasn't alive in 1988 and I recognised that as an incorrect Konami Code. Unless it's a reference to another game's cheat, I think most gamers with a little gaming history knowledge will recognise it, alive in 1988 or not.
No, "true gamer"status should be lost to anyone born after 1982. There is totally a reason for that specific number and I am not arbitrarily picking it for a joke because it was the year my brother was born.Olas said:And no, not all of us were born before 1988, however that shouldn't really deprive us of our "true gamer" status if you ask me.
They didn't change their name to Megadrive when they toured Europe?Kinitawowi said:The joke in this one was completely lost on us Brits, sadly, because there wasn't ever a band called MegaDrive with an album called Abacab...
I could argue that I was keeping things simple for our American friends, and that a rose by any other name...Kinitawowi said:No you didn't - it wasn't called Contra on the Spectrum (we called it Gryzor, because reasons).LaoJim said:I did own a Contra for the ZX Spectrum, not sure if the Konami code worked or not.
Not sure about that one, but ABBA was used to keep playing Ikari Warriors on the NES. Think it worked on the sequel too, can't remember for sure.Signa said:ABBAABBA
No, it's not. Up up down down left right left right B A Select Start is the correct code for two players. You flipped the second iteration of left and right and added a B and A button press for some reason. Worked for Contra and Life Force on the NES, and having used the code countless times for both games, even when I got to the point I didn't need to, I know it's correct.Msanchez said:I am talking about for Contra on NES. I know what I put is the correct code.
I'm not entirely sure on this one, but I think that's the one to skip levels in the PC version of the original Tomb Raider. Or possibly make Lara explode. I think they reversed the spin in the second Tomb Raider or something to keep you on your toes.SteveTR said:6. shift+up, shift+down, clockwise turn x3, alt+up
I'm sure I read somewhere that it was because of the Americans that it got renamed (after the controversy over the Iran-Contra Affair), although one would have thought that would have got it renamed in America rather than Europe...LaoJim said:I could argue that I was keeping things simple for our American friends, and that a rose by any other name...
To be honest I completely forgot that.

Wasn't SHOWMETHEMONEY used in StarCraft for a quick boost to resources? That or a gold boost in Warcraft II, I can't remember which now.Vigormortis said:Well OP, considering that's not the Konami code, and I feel as though that was your intention, it means to me that you may have ironically failed your own test.
Joking aside, here are a few for people to guess:

*ANENERGYBARTOGETYOUFAR
*FARMBOY
*RSJABBER
*BADBUDDY
*SHOWMETHEMONEY
Game and code effect. Good luck.
Oh, I always wondered why that last bit was left off. I still have the cartridge with the password written in sharpy on the back of it by my child-aged hands.cloroxbb said:and if playing 2 player, add SELECT, START to itJohnny Novgorod said:The REAL Konami Code is this:

It is idspispopd and it stands for Smashing Pumpkins Into Small Piles Of Putrid Debris. It came from a usenet community meme that got started when Doom was in development in 1992, though the causes of the meme are inconsistent. John Romero claims it came about as a joke due to the wild speculation going on among the users as to what Id's game would be about with someone claiming "Maybe it's about smashing pumpkins into small piles of putrid debris!" The Doom wiki though says it got started out of frustration with people logging into the community's BBS and asking where they could get Doom even though it wasn't out yet. Someone said Id should call their next game Smashing Pumpkins Into Small Piles Of Putrid Debris to deter people logging into the BBS at all hours asking where they could get the game.SmallHatLogan said:Wasn't Doom's noclip something like idspispopd (I'm sure it's incorrect but hopefully it's close)? No idea what it means. I think in Doom 2 they simplified it to idclip.
Batou667 said:No. It's the input for Geese Howard's Raging Storm super in games where he's playable. The specific input is Down-Back, Half Circle Back, Down-Forward+Punch. Draw this sequence on a piece of paper and it comes out looking a bit like a pretzel, hence the name.Inazuma1 said:Question 3: What is "The Pretzel" and what function does it serve?
Is that the input for Guile's super?
My last question nobody tried to answer so I'll just give the answer. ABYXABYXABABYXXYABYX is the code to access Debug mode in Super Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back on SNES. That code got imprinted on my memory due to multiple tries needed to input the code correctly at first. Now I can recite it in my sleep.
