THEY CHANGED MURLOCS!!?!!111!1ELEVENTY

FUCK THIS UPDATE!!!

EDIT: Jokes aside, the one thing that annoys me about this update is the lack of changes to the current races. Most of the player models are centuries old and it really, really shows. A whole new Azeroth with pixels up the wazoo isn't going to help matters.
Judging from the lure on it's head (much like the real life anglerfish), I'm guessing that is a deep sea murloc likely found in Vashj'ir. And yes, old character models are in dire need of an update.

A lot of these screen shots look amazing, especially the tainted "forest" ones. Kezan is also looking amazing, and I am considering rolling a goblin just to see it first hand.

What exactly is the cataclysm that broke everything?
The return of Deathwing, one of the Dragon Aspects. He turned evil was defeated some time ago and has come back and is really pissed of. Unfortunatly he is the master of Azeroth's geological activity he pretty much ripped the world apart, everything has now gone to hell in a hand basket.

Doesn't look exactly like what I was expecting either. Seems like it's just flooded really badly.
Glad I play a Shaman.. Water Walk will totally rule this new world.

Wow will flip in 360 degrees ...
Here's hoping they only make it 180 of those degrees!

I love this debate between the remaining hardcore elitist cells that remain, and the actual video game writer/critic who knows way more than most of us about the industry, and the minutiae involved therein.

I could be wrong, but they are enhancing the barbershop to allow for your character to look different, and characters will be involved in the graphics update. The first one I'm not sure about, but the second one I believe I read somewhere.

Having leveled a handful of characters across every damn square inch of Azeroth, I gotta say this is long overdue and incredibly exciting. Seeing as this is only our first real look into Cataclysm I can't render a fair judgment since SO much of the world remains unchanged.

One thing I do hope that changes is the basic alliance fortress design. Needs a bit more "umph" and doesn't need to apply to all the forts of course but could easily be applied to the newly constructed human forts that have sprung up. Something from Northrend perhaps, like Valiance Keep (which isn't a big leap sure but definitely looks like an improvement).

I mean just look at the fort comparison in southern barrens.

Other than that this could be one of the best things to happen to WoW. BUT I am getting bloody tired waiting on the female worgen character model (furry jokes need not apply). If there is a higher power then the Worgen will get a kind of Victorian British accent and the females will do the caramelldansen as a /dance. I hope I'm wrong on the latter point but what higher power wouldn't have a twisted sense of humour?

My poor Org...

At any rate, been playing for 5 years, I will undoubtedly keep playing, unless ToR is mind-blowingly amazing. That being said, I loved CoH/CoV yet still played WoW...

I'm looking forward to seeing the re-vamped maps, I have to say and can't wait to take Echo Isles for the Trolls. I miss many aspects of Vanilla (PVPing being a shitty grind, but much more rewarding and I miss DHKS, dammit), but I've not been as excited for new content as I have with Cata (even with BC being a breath of fresh air after playing and replaying the "same old" maps and the pain of...ugh...CH rep farming).

As a member of the Horde, I can't help but snicker seeing Orgrimmar all beefed up....

....When this happened to Stormwind.

Though I do have to admit...

Seeing you guys destroy Camp Taurajo and claim parts of the Barrens is like a slap to the face....

Just saw the pics of SW. WHERE ARE THE DRUIDS GOING TO TRAIN? It's completely gone. And you can't train druids in IF. That means they'll have to port to moonglade like the DKs. It's the only choice.
uh...... they DO have that.

Wow...

Just, wow...

I must say, maybe I will give WoW another shot after this update, because it surely looks like they're gonna change hell a lot of stuff. Rather, I should give it another shot before the update, since I've never seen what a lot of these zones look like before the update.

Though I still think having to pay for a monthly subscription and each expansion is a bit like theft...

Id like to see how WoW would ever plan on ending... I mean, at this rate, i'm starting to wonder how Blizzard would end the Warcraft Universe. "Titans show up, Endgame"

Mind you, Blizzard would have to be off their rockers to cut off this cash cow.

Gah. I want to reactivate my account now.. I might just do that actually. Can anyone tell me if the powergrind before you get to the Burning Crusade content is any better? I got bored when I hit level 40 and quit playing.

Though if you've since quit the game, you might want to pass it up. Almost everyone I know who's seen these has felt a very strong urge to reactivate their account - get out while you still can!

Unfortunately, it's not about what it looks like anymore. The direction they've taken the game is losing allot of the older players, well, ok, to be fair I don't know 'every' older player. Simply, many of the folks who played Classic, aren't too keen on the changes coming for Cataclysm, to say nothing of the changes already made.
As someone who has been playing since a month after launch, the changes coming in Cataclysm are the best thing Blizzard could have ever done.

Classic was far and away the worst version of WoW, and every iteration has been an improvement. It had some advantages, but those were mainly just due to the game not being a SCIENCE yet. It had a bit more wonder and mystery to it, but in terms of being a game, it just pales to what we have now.

To be blunt, I think the people crying need to take off their nostalgia glasses of being part of an elite cadre who ruled the game solely by virtue of having the time to waste getting 40 people together (and I was one of those people), and face the facts: The game is better now than it's ever been.

I Completely agree. I've been playing WoW since around a month after launch as well, and WoW as a game has improved by leaps and bounds. Yes, I have nostalgia for old lvl 60 content, but that's because it's a thing of the past. The only thing I do miss is putting together blue sets like shadowcraft, and traveling to dungeons - the latter being corrected in cataclysm (for the first trip there at least). If I had to build up a resist set, set aside sunday 12-8pm to raid, grind for a few hours to have repair money, and then have said plans wrecked because 4 people (out of 40) didn't show up I'd probably not be playing WoW anymore. Not to mention LBRS runs that took hours, and Ardent Dawn rep grinding for Naxx 40!

I personally can't wait for cataclysm - I love the look of the Worgen zones, and the idea of Northrend-quality quests (lore quests nom nom nom nom, excuse my drooling) taking the place of most of the vanilla content makes me quite excited. Heh, if the questing system is improved at all (which both xpacs so far have successfully done) I'm going to have a hard time prying myself away from my alt-addiction to experience end-game content.
