how i a game that basically just varied what modern warfare an original IP?
this is not Killer 7, this is a "realistic" shooter in a contemporary setting.

Its funny, because if the game got a 90, you know they would plaster it in every advertisement they could.
These are the same people who took two words out of Russ P's largely negative review and put them on the release trailer...

Cheers

I ignore reviews anyway (unless they are seriously bad) since the opinion of someone I know trumps a guy who is paid to try a game and make up his own mind based on what he cares about in a game. For all I know he wants exactly the opposite of what I want.
I've come to distrust user reviews MORE than professional reviews lately...As they tend to be extreme praise or extreme hate, in my experience. There are of course, exceptions. But it's easier to comb through the forest of professional reviews for quality, than it is to comb through infinite user reviews for quality.

Also, my best friend and I have drastically different gaming tastes.

I would have been more impressed with the game if they decided to put in a proper single player mode.

But they didnt, so im going to hover on the site waiting for Yahtzee to shred it tomorrow.

Dont act like he wouldnt, games like this are absolute gold for him.

They're quite confident that Homefront will become the next big thing aren't they?
Just seems very "meh" to me, and since 71 is a perfect "meh" score... sorry THQ.

Is a 7 bad or something?
The average scale seems to be 1-10. And how things work are 7 = meh, 8 = great, 9 = awesome, 10 = super-duper awesome!.

And everything below a 7 means the game is crap. And yes I'm aware of how completely stupid and destructive this is, but the vast majority of gamers don't seem to care.

Yes it is, THQ.

71 isn't bad.

WHY ARE REVIEWS NOW BASICALLY ON A SCALE OF 7-10?

Anything below a 7 is somehow shit-on-a-stick.
GameInformer and his daddy, Gamestop, that's why. They add 2-3 full points to the score of everything. I believe a 7.5 is "mediocre" in GameInformer-speak, which is funny because to a normal person 5 or maybe 6 would be considered mediocre.

Go ahead, THQ, cry more. It'll surely help.

Maybe you should have made a good game in the first place... just kidding, i know you are allergic all this "coming to work" and "actually doing something" crap.

I would give Homefront an 80, not great *cough*singleplayer*caugh*, but its still fun MP wise.

It wasn't until you nurfed the online play. Way to go in dumbing it down.
What did they do, exactly?
Probably easiest way to put it...
Prepatch - Like Call of Duty in hardcore mode
Postpatch - Like regular Call of Duty

Originally, people would die after a few bullets, but a lot of people complained. They nurfed the snipers (which were overpowered anyway), but they did something else that nurfed the rest of the guns. Not sure if it is lower damage or increased player health or what, but it isn't like it was prepatch.

Yup.

You can't apply math to art. That is, unless the results are good, in which case we'll totally run with the math.

Nope, 71 is being to generous, Homefront is more a 55-60, just slightly above average.

I love the juxtaposition of "Our goal is always to get a perfect score" and "You can't apply math to art." Numbers aren't important at all! Unless you give us GOOD numbers, that is. Then they're the only thing that matters.

Let's get something straight, please.

"A million units in a week on an original IP coming out of nowhere I think speaks a lot to the concept and the marketing of the game,"
If by Original IP, you actually just mean New IP, then that statement is correct. Because as far as a game IP goes, Homefront is not Original by any stretch of the imagination.

I'm not saying it's bad. I haven't played it in fact. But I've seen enough to know that it does not deserve the (unfortunately) coveted badge of "Originality".

This. He's just doing some damage control for the low reviews the game's been getting while collectively self-congratulating for the fact that the game managed to sell so much.

You just know that this game will cease to be relevant by the end of the year, barring any sequel announcements.

Another point about the originality; all the crap Korea put the poor americans through, and all those shocking scenes which were deliberately constructed to hit us with the shock&awe stick...

I learned about those things in fifth grade world history. I might even go so far as to say the whole game was -in order- taken from my history book section on the germans in world war 2.
