Why can't Western horrors be nearly as good? For every remake of a classic horror made I will cut off a finger. Doesn't have to be mine. Anyway great review Hub!

I've had my eye on this for a while now, you've convinced me to get it.

I love Park Chan Wook, 'Old Boy' is one of my favorite movies ever and 'Lady Vengeance' was gloriously horrific.

The Asians make much better horror than the West these days, with the exception of maybe 'Eden Lake' and 'Mum & Dad'.

I may have to get this sometime soon. Maybe it will even scare me, the closest a film has come to scaring me since I watched "The Silence of the Lambs" for the first time 7 or 8 years ago was when I watched "Silent Hill", alone, in the dark, at 2 a.m.

I will admit, I'm a little skeptical as to wether Fruit Chan is his real name.

I always enjoy your reviews, and these certainly intrigue me. If I get the chance (and remember) I will have to look these up.

Ooh! Added to queue and I can actually give this a watch today. I have a couple Japanese horror films to watch now. It's time to sit back and be terrified!

If you are watching it today, then you must get back to me about how it was!

I am curious!

Ah yes. This film.

To clarify, me and Hub watched this together when he came over to my house a couple of weeks ago.

It was one of the more disturbing films I've watched recently, but the interesting thing is is that what gore there is is quite underplayed, yet it manages to be more disgusting than most standard gore films, simply due to its content.

There are scenes in this film which have grossed up people I know for a fact watch the bloodiest of movies with ease, particularly in the first one.
Hi there!

Yeah, that's me.

It was a great film collection though. I think my favourite was probably the second, Cut. It was so unbelievably tense, yet somehow still believable.
Wait, you two actually know each other? That's... interesting. I just never really thought that anyone on this site had met in real life.

Do that and chopsticks will become obsolete.

Every person in the entire world will have to glue forks and knifes to their fingerless hands!

Or use a straw!

A STRAW!

To prove my point: They are totally making a remake of Sympathy for Mr Vengeance.

Prepare your straw.

I will! I am also going to watch something called Pulse by director Kiyoshi Kurosawa.

If I am not catatonic with fear when I am done, I will tell you all about it.

Wait, what? Seriously? Hopefully it'll never get off the ground like the Oldboy remake Steven Spielberg and Will Smith were planning *shudder*.

I am very protective of Park-chan Wooks Vengeance Trilogy.
Apparently, Warner Brothers acquired the rights for the film this year in January, and some guy named Brian Tucker is supposed to write the script.

I will actually cry if that ever happens.

The Speilberg ending:

It turns out he was imprisoned by extra terrestrials, but it's ok because they were friendly aliens and brought his wife back to life, at which point Oh Dae Su exclaims 'daaayum, man... those resurrection skillz be FRESH!'

Well, the were going to remake the manga and not the film, so it would have been a bit different from the Korean version.

Sympathy for Mr Vengeance however has no manga counterpart. It will be a straight up remake.

*cries*

As far as I can see on IMDB, he has only written a film called Broken City, which has a release date of 2010 and absolutely no other information on it.

That's not a great sign.
"Sir, we just acquired the rights for a very popular Korean movie! It has gained a lot of praise and could earn us money!"

"Hmmm, I like it... have a complete nobody write the script and shoehorn out some shit."

"*sheds single tear* Sir... you're such a magnificent man"

"I know *puts cigar in mouth*"

And so it was when the holy vengeance trilogy was sullied by hollywood.

They're going by the manga rather than the film I think, and according to wikipedia rather than the

incest reveal at the end, in the manga Oh Dae Sue was locked away for making Lee Woo-Jin cry when Oh Dae Sue sang the Korean national anthem

So, yeah it's going to suck. There will be a lot of slow motion and rising orchestral swells as Will Smith stands in a crowded street looking red-eyed from crying. For some reason.
They also wouldn't include the eating of a live squid.

Preposterous! The squid eating was one of the most important scenes in learning about "Monster" Oh Dae-Su!
