I'll say Halo: Combat Evolved. Not to piss people off but because it is the game the made the biggest impression on me in the last decade and it shaped the console gaming landscape permanently. That's not to say it's my best game EVA, but it is up there.

Game of the Decade: Diablo II, definitly! The hours I spend with this precious gem... *sigh*

2001: Tropico
Tropico is an awesome game! I love it! Im looking forward to Tropico 3 in October (16th)
I'm extremely skeptical on Tropico 3, because Haemimont Games is developing it, and they couldn't make a good game if you put a gun to their heads. The wretched Glory of the Roman Empire and Imperium Romanum were Haemimont-developed games.

If Phil Steinmeyer (who did Railroad Tycoon 2 and the original Tropico and has since moved on to doing casual games) were involved I'd be more hyped up about it, but Haemimont's track record is gods-awful. I still own Tropico (and it runs fine on Windows 7), so I'll just play that.
I liked glory of the roman empire :/ But thats just me I guess, and my Tropico got broken, then my brother got punched in the face, its been bad because I've really been craving to play.
Steam's got Tropico with its Paradise Island expansion plus Tropico 2: Pirate Cove in the "Tropico Reloaded" pack for $14.99. Worth every cent if your old discs are no longer workable. As for GotRE, I tend to have higher standards for city-builders since I've been playing them since SimCity Classic (on the SNES, believe it or not the best version of the first SimCity.)
Now all I need it a pay pal account! I like GotRE because of the micro mangent of the diffrent cities. . . and I liked to make a lot of pig farms, kinda like in stronghold 2 where I'd just make sheep farms. . .
Stronghold 2? Now I'm just thinking "wow, that dude will play anything." (because vocal tone doesn't come across the Internet well, I'm chuckling with mild sarcasm not intended to insult or offend---which still creates a modest picture at best, but it's all I've got.)

And to the guy who nicked me for picking FF9 over Chrono Cross, CC lost points with me for the massive dropoff I thought it was compared to Chrono Trigger...while FF9 is my #2 all-time favorite console RPG (look at my avatar for obvious answer to the question you were thinking to ask.)

Edit: Also, when I get some more free time I'm going to go through these posts and divine the forum's GotY for each year going backward (although IIRC, a forum topic that came up last December named Fallout 3 as the Escapist forum's GotY for '08 by a healthy margin.)

So far, Psychonauts with No More Heroes as the runner up. But Brutal Legend could still unseat either title.

Well, on the one hand, BioShock's my number-one-favorite game ever.

On the other hand, I'm an amputee. It gets my vote.

Some other very good games: Half-Life 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Portal, Team Fortress 2, and World of Warcraft.

I know you're not trying to offend anyone but you've made some comments in this thread that I'd deem snobby, if nothing else. If somebody finds a game fun it doesn't have to be great, and while you may find it to be crappy, everyone's got different tastes.

The decade ends in 2010, not 2009, because it started with the new millennium in 2001.
Note that I played most of these well after release.

2001: Gran Turismo 3
2002: Age of Mythology
2003: NASCAR Thunder 2004
2004: SimCity 4
2005: Gran Turismo 4; second, TrackMania Sunrise
2006: TrackMania Nations; second, Test Drive Unlimited
2007: The Orange Box (HL2 specifically); second, Forza Motorsport 2
2008: Metal Gear Solid 4; second, TrackMania United Forever; third, LittleBigPlanet; fourth, Braid; fifth, Castle Crashers
2009: Flower; second, inFamous; third, Secret of Monkey Island SE; fourth, Comet Crash
...pending the release of Forza Motorsport 3, mostly

Pretty much anything created by Valve, World of Warcraft too....

There are many other games I've enjoy'd, but these are the ones I'm playing majority of my free-time.

my games would be Halo: Combat evolved, KOTOR, Castle Crashers, MGS4, all of the Ratchet and Clank games, Call of Duty 2, Dynasty Warriors 4 (I'm serious), and my favorite game of the decade is... Rome Total War!

2000: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
2001: Super Smash bros. Melee
2002: Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos
2003: Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne
2004: Halo 2
2005: ??? (I literally played zero games that came out this year. yay Halo 2/WoW)
2006: ??? (Same as above)
2007: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
2008: WoW: Wrath of the Lich King
2009: Modern Warfare 2, though it hasn't been released yet, I know it will blow the doors off the scarce competition.

Game of the decade so far is a 3-way tie between CoD4, WoW, and Halo 2.

This is really difficult, 1 to even remember a game from 2000 and 2 to judge a game against and across other platforms. However, that being said:

2000: From the PSX Syphon Filter 2
2001: From the PS2 Final Fantasy X, nothing else that year stole my life like it.
2002: Very Difficult, Dynasty Tactics, GTA: Vice City, Red Faction 2 and Time Splitters 2 all came out, however, I give Timesplitters 2 the edge.
2003: Another difficult year, Dynasty Tactics 2, WWE: Here comes the pain & Rise Of Nations, but this goes to Dynasty Tactics 2, genuinely one of my favourite games of all time.
2004: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas & Dawn Of War have a slug fest, but with Dawn of War the only one of the two games I still play, it wins.
2005: Civilisation 4 and Guitar Hero slug this one out, but Civ 4 just about takes it home.
2006: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion wins this year, hands down.
2007: Bladestorm: The hundred years war (a hugely under-rated game), Medieval 2: Total War, which takes it home.
2008: Fallout 3, nothing held a candle to it last year.
2009 (so far): UFC: Undisputed, best game I've play from this year.

Every one of those games gave me and continues to give me fond memories, but Fallout 3 is the best thing to come along since 2000

2000: Baldur's gate II
2001: MGS2
2002: Morrowind
2003: KOTOR
2004: Prince of persia: warrior within
2005: Shadow of the colossus
2006: Final Fantasy 12
2007: Ninja gaiden sigma (never played black but I played this one to death)
2008: Persona 4
2009: I haven't played anything I have particularly liked from this year yet. Looking forward to demon soul though... you'd think I'd already have a copy but I'm too lazy to hop on the subway and go get one.

edit: as far as a best of the decade goes i'll let 2009 come to a close before I make a verdict on that... but right now baldur's gate II is probably the winner, I swear I've spent over 500 hours on various playthroughs.

We all know the game of the decade is wii sports!![/sarcasm]

It's hard to decide on a game of the decade. I mean it's bad enough trying to decide the game of the year now you want to make it ten times harder? (assuming linear progression) I don't know if that's even possible. I've forgot most games I like in the past 10 years anyways, trying to say the best is probably not a good idea.

The greatest game in this decade would either be Bioshock (literary themes, fear, a killer story, AND quality action? Yes please!) or--I'm not too sure on the date, but I think this came out in 2000 or 2001--Warcraft III: Frozen Throne. Both of these games changed their respective genres and made them much, much better. Halo: ODST is even stealing the audio diary concept, which is retarded and insulting but it is what it is.

Two Worlds.

Edit: For all years, ever.
Two Worlds was horrible... just horrible =[
But my votes would be behind the original Halo, because if game produces didn't see how long they could keep releasing halo before we started rioting in the streets (They'er still going)it wouldn't of been as tarnished as it has been, other votes would be Morrowind, Pyschonauts, portal, Final Fantasy X, Left 4 Dead, Jak and Daxter and COD4...
