Knew that comment wouldn't go down well, haha. Anyway, I looked on the kickstarter page (which recently passed 1 million) and you can buy the game for 15$. I didn't reaslise. So i'm okay with this, if they were just asking for the money, and you still had to buy it, it would have been annoying.Taunta said:snip
I sure hope so!Farther than stars said:The project has raised nearly a million dollars already and it still has over a month left to be funded. Do I smell AAA adventure game?
Preach it brother! I have done my part and kicked in a donation.bahumat42 said:Anybody who opposes the big publishing system needs to invest in this to prove this is a valid way for indie games to take off.
Free the shackles of oppression!
No, this will not work for everyone, you know that if you are a fan of Double Fine you WILL like their new game, you may not find it the best game ever but it will be worth the 15$ for sure. A indie team that only made one game before wont have this amount of followers because no one actually knows if they are capable of actually deliver anything worth the 15$.bahumat42 said:Anybody who opposes the big publishing system needs to invest in this to prove this is a valid way for indie games to take off.

You should really look into the games LucasArts made from Monkey Island through Grim Fandango. Many consider that era to be the golden age of adventure games, which peaked with Grim Fandango.DanDeFool said:So, that's about an average donation of $40 US so far. Almost the price of a brand-new AAA title.
And this is before the game even exists.
Gotta say, I don't get it. I never liked point-and-click adventure games very much. But then again, my exposure to the genre includes such titles as King's Quest V and VI, and does not include such titles as Monkey Island 2 and Grim Fandango, so what the fuck do I know?
And it just cleared the 1 mil mark. Nice. Would love to know exactly how long it took them to hit 1 mil.27,588

It is a sad thing to see all these wonderful people go insane from getting to many Kickstarter donation. Think we need to get a Kickstarter going in aid of those who have gone insane from too many kickstarter donations.NightmareLuna said:Darn that creeping insanity that stems from getting too many donations... A common problem nowadays right? Or maybe this is just because of Tim... He dah man!Ohlookit said:I'm sure the worst thing for the guys at Double Fine now is waiting the 33days for the kickstarter to end& watching Tim go insane as the amount donated keeps going up&up&UP!
I chipped in with $15 dollars, all I could afford atm but I say you go Tim!
The business model is about leveraging reputation and trustworthiness, into capital for game development.thatstheguy said:One million dollars in a day and a half for a medium sized studio for a game from a genre that is decidedly dead in the eyes of publishers.
That blows my mind. I can't help but wonder what Activision and EA think of this. Seriously, those two could make serious bank on just the promise of a game, not even the game itself. This business model could be pretty deadly in their hands.
I don't know about that. I would support Obsidian, the guys doing Xenonauts, probably a gaggle of other smaller studios. If Codemasters promised to make me a new Overlord game I would definitely chip in.Davroth said:Let's not fool ourselves here. This only works because it's Tim Schafer. If it was any other studio doing the same thing, they wouldn't even reach their goal after the full duration.
Not that I mind. I just wonder what they will do with all the additional money.
