I think I nearly overdosed from the absurd amount of seriousness in this thread. I think we need more silliness. Seriously.

The problem with the escapist forums is that there is no problem, we just got it into our heads that there is a problem. That's the problem.
If there is no spoon, then that begs the question... why is there soup?
To dip our crackers in, of course.
What if my cracker is in the shape of a spoon?
Well then you would eat the soup with it until the spoon becomes unusable, of course.

And those people completely and utterly rock.
*Makes devil horns* Ehhh, I don't rock that much. I actually got the idea of having a Zero Punctuation avatar from Cheeze_Pavilion who I think decided to give himself one in retaliation to the belief that people with a ZP avatar are the bottom of the barrel intelligence wise. I agreed with him and stole his face, that's it really. Credit where credit is due and all that.

As for the original topic at hand, I think that we shouldn't be telling people how to act.

I don't think that our time spent here gives us any right to demand a certain quality from the other users. I don't think we should tell others how to act. I think that instead of telling people how to act and possibly why we don't like them we should be acting like ourselves, whatever that may be. Does that mean we should let people be stupid, yeah. Doesn't mean we shouldn't use the report button and tell mods about stupid stuff. We should let the mods determine the standard of quality that the Escapist has rather than taking it upon ourselves. Of course using the report button you are slightly determining the standard of quality on the Escapist but it's the moderators who have the final say. Let the moderators decide upon what is bad and what is good for the website but make sure that you present them things to pass judgment on by using the report function.

We should set a standard in our posts and hope that others follow suit, I would say that a lot of people do.

I would like it if people wouldn't tell others when they report them or when they get angry at a thread of theirs, just report and move along is a very useful thing to live by.

Things that would improve the site....
2 things.
1. Mods start locking certain reviews on the user review forum, many of them just don't meet any standard what-so-ever.
2. Apparently every time you do something wrong and you incurs mod wrath it is marked down, after an amount of times it adds up and you end up being perma-banned, this happened to Eggo. I think that should be removed and replaced with a better system...
Something like only accumulating points in the last year? You can check each probationary period based on the last time it occured and if it's within the last year, that's your ban time?

I noticed a post get banned for 30 days not long ago, and I can't but help think that maybe the amount of people reporting a post, the mods are influenced in their decision slightly?

That was because Eggo was, despite his attempts to be amusing while doing so, an unrepentant asshole. He repeatedly demonstrated a lack of respect for his peers and brought down the quality of the site by entertaining the notion that the destruction of a person was a way gain personal entertainment and respect from others. Whether he was right or not, he showed himself to have no wish to post constructively and merely attack the work of others.

You want to know what's wrong with this site? People like him are celebrated as bastions of wit. The problem is that it has become the accepted method of posting to tear down instead of build up, to stomp down on rising fingers and try to clamber to the top. The egotism, the anger towards new users, the lack of discussion all stems from the fact that we find hate and destruction more fulfilling than building relationships and bonds in the community. Everyone has their hate hat on, and worst of all they know it and try to compete to see who has the biggest.

And that's your Ultradvice for the day.

I only have two major quirps with this site.
Sometimes it's warranted, but still, it would be nice if some of the people here could get over themselves and their writing ability and realize that not everyone knows or cares enough to use perfect spelling and grammar when they speak. You're a better writer than the OP; thank you, we get it, now shut the fuck up.
And there we go again, yet another sterling example of what I have been saying.
Thank you so much for proving my point.
First of all, no one owes you a modicum of respect.
Deal with it.
Seniority is retarded. It is retarded in the world, in the workplace, and in life. People don't respect Seniority, they respect common sense.
Deal with it.

On the point, can we please drop the whole community is degrading bullshit?
The only thing degrading is the melodramatic overreaction every member who's been here half a year is spouting. The site isn't changing, the community isn't changing, it's just growing.
We have a larger number of tossers because we have a larger number of people.
It's proportionate. It's logical.
You can't control how other people will act, only how you will respond. So if everyone would stop worrying about others and start worrying about themselves, the site would maintain itself.

Tl;Dr=Get off your pity pot and suck it up.

Firstly, I feel I was less rude to xitel then he was to me, for chris' sake, Dirk, he told me to go to /b/, that's pretty much the worst insult you can use on The Escapist.
Nah, it's calling someone a shill for Bethe$da. That's the worst.

What? This thread has me all nostalgic.
Fixed it for you.
