They shalt have to remove the controller from my dead hands. In which case I shalt still fight back in zombie form. So no you're never too old to be a gamer.

Don't tell me gaming is just for kids. Are games like these in any way appropriate for kids:

I TRIED playing this when I was 12... I couldn't. Not till I was like 19.

Look at how many 18-rated games there are. So many. Really you should only just have started gaming.

The question should not be "should I keep gaming" but rather "Should I keep playing the same games I did as a little kid?"

Try more mature game that challenge you more both in terms of skill but also more emotionally and cognitively challenging. Try more "mature" genres like RTS, Click Adventure or have a go at creating content.

I mean, you wouldn't stop reading books as you get older... but you'd certainly read DIFFERENT books.

EDIT: WHOA! Did not expect that cover art to come out that big

No you are never to old to play games...it's blasphemy to say you are. As long as you still have the brain function left to play a game then you are never too old to be a gamer.

Video games are an art form, just like books, movies, and paintings. They are also competition, just like board games, sports, or just messing around with friends. Do you ever outgrow any of that?

Video games are a viable artistic entertainment medium, and that is an undeniable fact. You can never outgrow it, because it is not for any particular age.

i'm 39

as a result of a career in which i use compression hand tools a lot have problems with my hands and in addition i'd be a lier if i said my reaction times are as good as they were when i was younger.

so ye i fail at "twich" gaming in several forms that i used to really enjoy being good at :(

this has led to me bemoaning the increasing focus on PvP in many genres where basically i have to go up against those much younger than myself and their damn fresh nervous systems *shakes stick* :p

i think as gaming becomes more a part of society as gamers of my generation and below age hopefully we might see an appreciation that not everyone can play "twich" dependant games to the fullest and hopefully alternatives will be made available so as not to exclude a large potential market (turn based gaming for example which has fallen out of favor in recent years)

after all it happens to everyone eventually.

no one is eternally "sharp" and a great many games rely on you being so in order to allow you to progress.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaction_time
Can't say much about chronic injuries from hand tools (keep an eye out for class action lawsuits) but Reaction Time should only significantly decrease in Senescence... that mean when you become senile like when you are in you 80's or 90's.

The problem you might be having at 39 is basically a case of being "hard headed". Your mind is no longer flexible like a young person, it is harder to learn new motor skills which NEED to be instinctive to play well at these games. It's not impossible, but it just takes more effort to get your eye in with new games and new game mechanics. Afraid the only way to get good is to practice more.

So I just turned 20 a week ago and have been gaming for as long as I can remember and I dont ever plan on stopping. My dad's 47 years old and is a gamer (and I mean like God of War, Grand Turismo and Halo, not Peggle and Bejewled) and has been way longer than I. So my question is this, do you guys that you really ever get to old to play video games?
hell no, till the day i die, i will play video games and love them (granted by the time i stop being able to take care of myself..ill just pull my own plug, so probably another 50 years id say)

gamer 4 life (sounds super cheesy and dumb but true)
