I think the main thing about getting motivated to engage in sports and working out is actually liking it. I mean, I'm going to start judo practice again soon when I move to the big city (which is in a few weeks), dropping other college kids on their heads so hard they forget their midterms just makes me giddy inside... while the mere thought of having to do 'reps' over and over and over again just makes me die inside a little.

I just get up and do it. I can't really say what my motivation is, it's more that I'm a restless individual and I have to be doing something.

ok, im dont neccacaraly "work out", i dont plan times to go to the gym or anything, in fact I hate the gym.

But I am extreamly strong, you wanna know why, I lift kayaks all the time, then i paddle them for hours on end, then i lift them again. I can carry a kayak single handedly, and trust me, they weigh like 75-90 pounds, may not be much for some of you creepy people out there, but for a 13 year old to lift those things, then carry them up to a mile (I had done it befor, i did have small breaks though) is pretty damn hard. Also at night when I cant sleep I usually watch TV, and I sit on my couch to do this. heres the thing, I sitt on my couch upside down doing crunches. Now theirs working out without getting bored for you.

Also its wicked funny to suprise people with my strength, like I said im only 13, and yet I'm stronger than alot of 17 year olds.

Usually i hate feeling fat...which im not but i do after a few weeks of not working out. I dont know its something ive done for the past 10 years, be it sports or just for my own health. For me the hardest part is getting to the gym and keeping myself unbored for the 2 hours my workouts usually last.

Cuniculus is totally right. :) I made hour and a half long bike rides a part of my post-work routine (I live in an extremely hilly area, so it's a brilliant workout). It's so routine that it's easy to do. On days I don't work, I odn't bike. Do work, I bike. :)

The real hard part for me is diet. My workout burns (guessing) 500 caleries, roughly based on an exercise site I read once. And I try to keep my diet at 900 to 12 cals a day. So my net is 400 to 700, after workout. It may sound like lunacy, but it works with my metabolism, which hate my body. :)

My advice is finding a local sports club and getting involved in that. Play something like soccer (football for you non-americans), and you'll notice yourself getting lean quick. Unless, of course, you want to build muscle definition. In that case, you're just gonna have to hit the weights.

If you wanna hit the weights, though, stick to the machines or make sure you have a spotter. You can hurt yourself doing too much free weight. And please work your legs, too. So you don't look like some freak.

So you max out at 410, how many reps of that can you do? That is quite a lot, i max out at 260. Then again im not going for bulk.
at this point, four reps. i can get the fifth but it is allways via an assist. I train for power and strength first, and mass second. ((training for pro strongman))

and 260 is great, bro!! props!

I don't need the gym as such, being a skinny fuck, but I would like a bit more bulk. However, I lack the motivation that many people here seem to have.

I prefer to get my exercise from walking, cycling, manual work etc. rather than going to the gym specifically to exercise. That seems like a thing I can never do. I went to the gym for a while but quit when I realised it was boring and I was never going to end up as a muscle bound hunk.

I'll be able to get a bit more bulky perhaps, but I'll have to do it whilst actively doing something else, like a sport or martial art or something, rather than just working out.

The answer is simple: Do something you think is fun. Fun brings motivation, motivation brings routine, routine brings results.

F.ex. I started kickboxing. Because it's fun, and sometimes therapeutic.
I also started dancing, because I friggin' love it. I'm not particularly good at it, but that's not the main goal.

Keep an eye out for things you like doing. Any kind of hobby that involves moving around. And if you'd rather "work out" instead of practise a sport, remember that you don't need to taste blood in your throat every time you work out in order to have a good physique. It's perfectly alright to take 2-3 half-an-hour walks a week with your iPod, in fact it's much better for you and your body if you start slow.
Keep the routine up and you'll find that you sleep better/deeper, your appetite is bigger, and you're able to concentrate better. Magic.

My motivation used to be getting into shape to improve my self esteem and to finally get into shape. Now, my motivation is to get into better shape and to work out simply for the sake of working out. If you exercise for long enough, it takes more work to get yourself to not work out than it takes to get up and do it.
same lol

that and it is a great way to enjoy your music.
i just put in my earphones and go! :D

This is correct. I think it varies how long it takes for most people to fall into a routine, but 1-3 weeks is probably about right. You also kind of have to ease into it, if you try and start a workout plan that's too hard then you won't bother to keep doing it.

I don't have a motivation yet. My parents force me, and I hate exercise. Most of what I do is just treadmill and karate.

But I want a sexy body, so that is my motivation.

And I find working out a time to unwind and to be alone to myself, and listen to some music..

If only it did xD
But on topic : I just hate how fat looks. I don't want to be the hulk or anything, I keep myself in the not buff, but not fat category. And I usually don't have to do too much to achieve that.
