it happens, I've never experienced it personally however they do state this kind of problem via the News tab quite regularlyHardcore_gamer said:I have had STEAM for years and own dozens of games on it and this has never happened to me even once.
The difference is, while it does occur with Steam, it is very rare. And, when it does occur, they tend to take the product down, for instance when they ran out of Prey keys a couple years ago they changed the promotional to (I think) Bioshock. Where as here, Microsoft just leaves it up and rakes in money from the gullible and unwary.mad825 said:it happens, I've never experienced it personally however they do state this kind of problem via the News tab quite regularlyHardcore_gamer said:I have had STEAM for years and own dozens of games on it and this has never happened to me even once.
by the time they get more keys, the offer would be over.Starke said:The difference is, while it does occur with Steam, it is very rare. Even if I can't play for a few days, 10 cents for a game I've wanted for a while is a price I couldn't pass up.viranimus said:Hrm.. me thinks this is a marketing campaign by microsoft because people had forgotten how aggravating dealing with GFWL is, so they figured they would give a game away for 10 cents then neglect to activate CD keys in order to ream and remind everyone right and proper.
So yeah, no luck on finding the CD keys, and spending 30 min right now on hold with GFWL support to try and get the keys.
At least with steam you will see that a fix is in the works. Here, fuck if I can tell, I dug around online and the only evidence I found that anyone on the GFWL team was even aware of the problem was on a single post on a support thread.mad825 said:by the time they get more keys, the offer would be over.Starke said:The difference is, while it does occur with Steam, it is very rare. The fact that people will be paying for the heavily discounted price, a small delay wouldn't hurt.
So...MS raking in more money? nah, they could suspend it now as well end the promotion here and now if they wanted to and the rest would have to pay full price.
Ah thank you very much, I completely missed that!kerkanka said:go to your downloads tab on the client, double click on the game, click on the game keys arrow it should be there.Gorden Springel said:So I tried installing it and it asked for a authentication code which I never got... anyone else have this problem?

Ten cents is a fantastic deal...if the software works. If it doesn't, it's still a rip-off.
Here's hoping they fix this problem quickly.
Might as well tell you guys...Hardcore_gamer said:I just played the game a bit, and despite finding AoE 2 a lot of fun I find AoE 3 fairly boring. It if weren't for the fact that I almost got it for free I would be unhappy.
Oh! And MS is screwing things up since it appears there is a problem with Games for Windows Live that for some reason causes a considerable portion of the people who bought the game to get a copy of the game without any CD-key assigned to it thus preventing them from being able to install it. My friends is one of those people, so he can't use the game........
Real good job there Microsoft, real good job.
EDIT: It appears others have already pointed this out.
I looked it up... http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/t/15693.aspxStarke said:At least with steam you will see that a fix is in the works. A new batch of keys will be available within a week, due to the sale being a ridiculous success.
As in, they DIDN'T FORSEE EVERYONE BUYING A COPY. Guess we should have figured they'd somehow screw up the world's most incredible sale.
Thank you! Took a bit of searching around online to find the same answer.lacktheknack said:Devin Parker said:Getting the same problem here: asking for a key from the CD, which the download client doesn't display. Tried closing then reopening the download client, and I'm getting the same result.
