Too much sex and nudity in TV/Movies?

So I've been watching some new TV lately and I've noticed there seems to be a lot of sex scenes and/or nudity in TV then I remember. I've got no problem with sex, or nudity really, on a moral level.

But it seems to be getting a little bloody ridicules, and frankly annoying. If I want boobs I'll google them, if I want sex I'll find a site, when I watch a TV show or a Movie I want the story, and often, the sex doesn't add anything to the actual plot of what I'm watching.

Example I tried watching True Blood, something my sisters and mother really enjoy, and after the few episodes I just got sick of it, it was soft core porn, every bloody episode seemed to have at least two sex scenes or some bints tits hanging out.

What are your thoughts?

Wouldn't really know. I'm a United States American with regular TV.

If I want to see a tit I have to google it.

People have been focusing on the "sex sells" concept too much recently. I'm not much of a fan of it either, it just gets overdone and rather tiring. Of course, I don't watch much else other than History, Discovery, and Travel Channels so I'm sort of exempt from the sex/nudity shows.

Your profile says you're 30. Exactly how long have you been watching pay per view drama series to notice an increase in nudity? I've always understood nudity to be one of the draws of pay per view dramas.

I honestly think movies could use more male nudity, gender equality and whatnot.

Eh, put the little kiddies to bed.

People always say "oh my God turn the TV off! What's wrong with shows these days?"
But if they just checked the ratings, they would have never been caught off guard.

This goes especially for movies in theaters...

I agree. I was filming a modern adadption of the story of Gideon from the book of judges and the director wanted the angel to be played by a girl (there are no other female speaking roles). When the writer argued that according to the lutheran interpretation of the bible, all angels are men; the director simply replied "Sex sells." and proceeded to use a skimpier-than-average robe as the costume.

What country do you live in?

In America, we usually just watch crime dramas where women get brutally raped and murdered and we get to look at their mutilated bodies before watching how the local law enforcement sorts the whole situation out. Or we watch sitcoms where NOTHING. FUCKING. HAPPENS. There are dramas and soap operas where people have sex (with EVERYONE except the person they're actually supposed to be in a relationship with, naturally), but most of that happens off-screen.

Yeah, frankly, in America (unless you subscribe to Showtime and HBO) we could use a lot more sex and nudity in our TV and a little less violence and unstimulating blandness.

Eh. I think there's an overabundance of sexuality in the media and society in general but I'm not particularly bothered by it.
If it's something that I don't enjoy watching, I ignore it.

Plus, I don't ever watch TV anymore aside from anime and random stuff I'm recommended over Netflix so I haven't really noticed any sort of increase.

I think I saw a half second flash of a man's butt on a TNT movie once. THE HUMANITY!

Edit: Not that I have nothing better to do on my weekends other than watch crappy TNT movies.

I am somewhat inclined to agree... Im getting a bit weary of seeing naked man ass on tv in the US. Animated man ass too. I dont think you can go 3 episodes of family guy without some guy with his ass completely exposed.

I dont have a problem with females being naked on screen, unless it gets to the point of being gratuitous and distracting.

Does that make me sexist? or just straight?

Yes I'm 30, but I took a break from most TV for a while, except for shows I was really interested in (Dr. Who for example). Sexuality and Nudity are part of the human condition, I'll readily agree, but honestly anyone who lives their lives dominated by their genitals and/or sexual preference is a sad git that needs to get broader interests.

I don't have a moral problem with it, I just think if something is in a show or movie it should be there to improve the narrative, not just "look tits!"

Example. Watchman, okay movie, but I honestly thought that the big swinging smurf penis added to the movie, it went to show that Doctor Manhattan was more alien then human, not even understanding we he should wear clothes. Other people just went "ugg guy parts". It added to the story and plot.

So if it adds to the show I'm all for it.

Hell, I'll look at all the butt-ass-naked men you want me to if we can get a healthy attitude towards sex in this damn country.

I probably won't enjoy it, but sometimes you just gotta take one for the team.

You tried watching an HBO produced show and you're complaining about nudity and sex? Better yet did you even read the source material? Unfortunately I think your views are somewhat invalidated as a result now.

Ya there might be, I'll be honest here. I stopped watching Television about 2007, so I really don't know what you mean. The only show I managed to care about was Heroes, until season two when it became a soap. Then I stopped using television except for movies and Xbox Live.

If this is a problem turn off the TV and do something else and if you get the urge to want to see someone naked or terrible sexual jokes, just Google it like the rest of us. Jeez, TV is useless.

And people called Mass Effect a porn simulator. *roll-my-eyes*
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That's a good one.

Although I had a small debate about the subject of sex in video games with my (now) ex-girlfriend and her dad. They seemed to think that video games were moving as a whole towards sex simulators (based most likely on what they heard you can do in the GTA games, even though you don't actually see graphic sex). I tried to explain that while sex as a theme is present in games, you don't get to see it and it's not like porn. Prime example (and the one I used) was Mass Effect. You can "have sex" with one character in each game and it basically amounts to a one night stand. But you really don't see any nudity and what you do see, a bit of ass and a side-boob, is way more tame than what we see in movies/TV, which is generally accepted as OK. But they, mostly her dad, didn't want to accept that video games weren't becoming porn simulators. UGH. /end rant.

I'm finding that all the TV shows/movies that don't need have sex have way too much of it, and all the TV shows that should have sex don't have it. I truly do not understand the phenomenon.
