I'd be a hypocrite to say they should show less of it, but honestly I agree it isn't necessary half the time. I feel sex has been cheapened, and ourr media are partially to blame. We're the rest of the blame because we lap it up like dehydrated dogs.

My Mrs complained about the sex and nudity in Game of Thrones. It's fairly true to the Novel the series is based on, so I was perfectly fine with it and the contexts they were shown in.

Eh, I agree that there's too much sex, but that's mostly cause it's done so badly.

Having nekked people does not make for good padding, nor does it make your show more daring or adult.

If there's a good reason for nudity, then ok...except people are going to forget everything else and concentrate on that. Otherwise, do some acting instead.

What are your thoughts?
My initial thoughts are: "Yaaaayyyy tittehs!"

My more complex secondary thoughts are: "How do we get more of these in TV and movies?"

My critical tertiary thoughts are: "I would love to see sex and nudity represented in TV and movies in proportion to the amount of time I spend thinking about both, but it's possible that this would be impracticable on the grounds of differing moral standards in the viewership."

My quaternary thoughts are: "Yaaaayyyy tittehs!"

I'm afraid that's all I've got at this time.
This is strikingly similar to my reaction upon seeing such mammary glands. It's interesting how it can provoke thought on so many levels.

Heh. Boobs.

Carry-On Films? ;)
Actually, that reminds me when I was much younger, and saw a Carry on film as a matinee at noon, thinking "What the fuuuuuuuuuck?"

It attracts ratings, that's about it. Not everything has sex and nudity in it, but I think in the things it does a lot of the time it seems to be an apology to the men in their audience for being made to watch it by their girlfriends. At least the stuff i was watching seemed to be.

I don't get the topic sex and nudity are more a part of our lives then violence has. Think about it how often do you actually get into a situation where violence is the plenty? Last time I had to raise my fists to well alright attack someone who pissed me off was 9 years ago. I'm confronted with nudity and sex on a FAR more regular basis.

Now I do understand that it's not interesting for a movie or TV show to exclude violence. But think about it really. What are you confronted with more in your fife basis, meaning not your TV, computer, a book or even music Violence or Nudity?

I don't mind sex and nudity if the movie or TV-show is sub-par, then you can just enjoy it for what it is. But if the movie is actually good, graphic sex is just distracting. In those cases, implied sex is underrated.

I guess I just feel that it needs to be believable, but I feel that way about everything included in TV plots.

If something adds nothing to the plot or characterization, it needs to be cut. Sex is no better or worse than anything else.

I can never understand this. Graphic violence? Sure that's fine, don't show any blood and you can even get it into kid's films. But show even the barest flash of a nipple and "Oh noes! Won't somebody please think of the children!" Why are some societies so intolerant towards sex and nudity, while at the same time accepting depictions of horrific violence and mutilation? Attack of the Clones must have had hundreds of people getting shot, exploded and dismembered. But what is the one thing that the moral guardian cretins got their knickers in a twist over? Natalie Portmans nipples showing through her sweater. For the love of Cheddar people! Everyone has seen a nipple before!

More recent example - While watching A Game of Thrones with my family, my mother mentioned being uncomfortable with the amount of bare flesh and nookie on display. I'm sorry, what? The first fifteen minutes alone included a small child impaled against a tree and two graphic beheadings.

Awww but I love American cable shows... I swear, I would go nuts if I was stuck with regular sanitised bullshit network. I like my TV made for adults, with adult themes and adult ratings.

I haven't looked forward to TV as much as I love my Monday nights, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Game of Thrones. Love it. Great TV made on a decent budget (if British telly tried to make that stuff, the sets would be made of paper and spit).

And in terms of flesh on view, Gods of the Arena turned in to quite a sausage fest. I didn't think that I would ever see full frontal male nudity on US television...

If you mean 'too much sex' used with little to no point or purpose then yeah I'll agree.
If you mean 'too much sex' out of moral outrage, then no, I disagree.

The amount of "sex" in movies has decreased astronomically since the 70s-80s. Unfortunately the industry is spiraling in two different directions. On the one hand artists and marketers are both trying to finally express more sexuality in their work (for very different reasons mind) while society itself has been "kidproofing" nonstop since the early 90s. The result is that sex is de facto censored, so allusions to sex have become the norm and almost cliche. On the whole though, we're markedly more prudish than we were even 20 years ago.

The only people objecting to too much sex these days are people with moral objections, or people with a distorted view of sexuality.

They say sex sells, but I'm NOT buying!! Now I LOVE having it with my husband, in fact it's something I REALLY, REALLY enjoy, but at the same time, I would not want anyone else watching us, nor do I feel the need to, or do I even want to see others engaging in sex, sorry, just call me shall we say, normal. Now, I think it's normal to want to check out porn when you're going through puberty & hormonal, but then I think it's also normal to grow up & outgrow that urge. I'm only 33 but there are SO many things that are SO MUCH MORE worth my time than half the movies they put out today. I think television has really gone downhill & I think in Hollywood all the good, original material has already been written & produced. I think they have ran out of ideas so they are remaking EVERYTHING or seeing how much sex they can put in a movie just to try & push the boundaries because it is getting really bad. I think most of the best movies out there hardly have any of that stuff in it. When you have a great story, you don't need the garbage. I, personally don't feel sex is something that should be shared with everyone in the free world to watch anyway. I think there are some things that SHOULD, in fact be kept behind closed doors & to me, sex is one of them. I'd rather see a movie where sex is implied, rather than watching the actual act. With all the media nowadays & everything being right at everyone's fingertips I think people are too quick to share EVERYTHING! Call me old fashioned, I don't care....I prefer some privacy & a lot of times, I wish others were a little more private too. I like being able to use my imagination......maybe television/movie producers should try it once in awhile.
