Top Gear, HIGNFY and Mock the Week are the only shows on the BBC that I can stand to watch these days. Or any TV channel. The BBC shows far, far too many costume dramas IMO.

Yes, it's become a little silly, yes the presenters are starting to act like a cartoon version of themselves - but - answer me this - if Top Gear was a 'true' car review show - would people bother watching it? Have you seen the old TG of the 80's? My god, it's possibly the most boring car show I've seen. I even prefered 5th Gear to the 80's TG. Theres just something about the show I like.

Yeah Jeremy Clarkson should be knighted or something or maybe not his head would probably get too big and explode. I see it as more of a comedy show than a car show really.

I HATE FUCKING TOP GEAR!

So much.

It just annoys the piss out of me and I beg people to turn it off when it's on. I just have to leave the room otherwise.
So they can watch Top Gear AND you leave. Win win :p.

Top Gear is good, not as good as it has been though. They have seriously awesome jobs though. Paid to dick about with their mates.

Top Gear ftw.

I've watched like 5 series of it and don't have a clue about cars xD.

I just love the challenges where they mess around.

It's getting tired and as a programme based on comedy that's always going to cost it heavily.

In the last few years all the funniest moments have been the totally unexpected, the ones where they've gone above and beyond mere stereotyping or simply side-stepped it entirely in the name of another joke.

THAT Fiesta review anyone?

The "Fancy a gin & tonic?" moment on the Arctic trip?

TG will have to reinvent to remain at all fresh, sacrilege though it is I'd argue a change of presenting staff might just keep it alive.

i think people look at Top Gear the wrong way nowadays - it's an entertainment show, it's more of a comedy than a serious car review

I like it.

I mean the Polar Expedition, Vietnam/Botswana/Bolivia specials...breathtaking. Did you see the punishment Hammond's Land Cruiser put up with? That alone is epic, never mind it all happening in some truly beautiful places.

The normal shows are OK - I watch them whenever they're on iPlayer. I find the "Star in the Car" a little boring, and the reviews of most of the supercars; but all the building/race challenges (building amphibious vehicles to cross the channel, building a kitcar in the time it takes the Stig to drive London-Scotland, the three-way race between car, bike and train) are great fun to watch.

It's also genuinely funny - particularly Clarkson's comments. I think he's a nob (as I believe in climate change being influenced by mankind), but an incredibly funny one at that.

Compared to the crap on Sky, SyFy, ITV/Channel 4/Channel 5 these days then it's probably amongst one of the best programmes. Not because it's necessarily *that* good, but because everything else is *that* bad.

I liked the one where they went to America and were chased by hicks. That was fun. Or the time they did that economy race to turn the lights on in Blackpool. Or maybe the one where they went to the salt pans in Botswana.
God I love Top Gear.

I find the bits where they talk about cars boring, I don't like the presenters, but the stupid stuff they do it hilarious. Latest I can think of is the hot air balloon caravan. Genuis.

Yeh the special episodes kick serious entertainment television ass! The Vietnam, Bolivia, North Pole, USA and the Japan race spring to mind for me.

The regular, non special, programmes aren't as good. But when you think about it, how could some blokes talking about cars be as good as the same blokes scootering up Vietnam?

It started to decline in hilarity about two series ago. Since then it's just been predictable rubbish. It used to be very funny at it's peak though.
Exactly this, though I did love the second episode of the latest series, where they built the car out of metal. Predictable, yes, but I still laughed so much. Unfortunately, the later two/three series have fallen a little flat, with me at least. I'll still watch it every week, though, and especially the re-runs on Dave.

I liked Top Gear
Until I realised what a pompous, self righteous ass Jeremy Clarkson is.
An add for his book stated "Shakespeare? I'd rather stick pencils in my eyes"

Please do.
And try appreciating a master of the language you speak, you jack ass.

It's not just the show that I love, cos I do love it. It's the journalism and journalists, don't forget that each of them has a newspaper column, and compilations of their columns have been made into books, I have three of the them. I just love the way that they are the anti-philistine, alter-utilitarian and just plain funny all of the time. I know that a lot of the show is scripted, but I don't care cos it's such a laugh, the imagination of the challenges are incredible, the epic road trips, and the pure boys-with-their-toys attitude can't miss a beat!!!

Oh, there I must disagree. Some of the cheap car challenges have been hilarious, and the electric car bit was genius.
I will admit, the SIARPC bits can drag on, and some of the reviews are a bit misguided, but I think in general the regular programmes are usually just as good, if not better.

Shakespeare has only recently become a "master of language" in his own time he was considered to be something of a lower art form writer for the masses. Clarkson is actually a nice guy but its scripted that hes the over the top one
