99 Pounds?

I may not understand non-American currencies very well, but I'm pretty sure that's worth more than both games combined.
p is pence. That is like cents. Pounds use a different symbol, £ or ₤.

That makes so much more sense then what I was thinking.

If this is a UK only thing I don't see many people actually doing this. Mainly because to return the game you would have to find a Gamestop and in all the cites I've bought games I have never seen one in the UK. Also because of this I don't see this deal being advertised enough to actually get many sales as it will probably only be on the internet and who pays attention to internet ads.

If I was EA I would instantly recall every single copy Gamestop got. Sure this might spark a mass sale of BF3 copies but in the end every copy sold this way is a guaranteed loss because it will bring an extra used copy in circulation.

For every copy sold in this promo action EA will lose money to the second hand market. Not to mention that Activision is grinning all the way to the bank because most people won't return their copies of MW3 seeing as there isn't extra incentive to do so.

Nicely done.

And yeah, I'd rather have a nice pie then either one of those games, I can't stand what 'top tier' shooters have become. I like shooters that actually have an interesting catch like Crysis 2 and Bioshock 2, not just fastest finger wins shite.
I think it's funny how you put Crysis 2 and Bioshock 2 forward as good examples of shooters, when Bioshock 2 did nothing but stagnate and Crysis 2 was a moderately good game. I'll give it to you and say I did enjoy Crysis 2, even though I finished it in 6 hours and I simply walked past most of the action cloaked, but an exemplary shooter it was not.

The less said about Bioshock 2 the better.

Seeing as how you have to buy an Online Pass if you buy the game used, and most likely 99% of the people buying BF3 new are going to USE the only pass included with the game, this sounds like a SCAM/KICKBACK SCHEME whipped up by EA and GameStop to wring dirty money out of the used games market.

I am slightly worried this will encourage people who take the rivalry way too seriously, to buy BF3 and grief like crazy until MW3 comes out =/

Even if the customer doesn't like the style of gameplay bf3 has to offer they are going to be in for bit of a shock to the system when they go back to Call of Dutys old game engine.

Hah!
Look at it this way: Console gamers don't have to go to a fucking website or download Origin to play. And they get a server list inside the game.
yes, you areal already tied in a similarly f**king website of xbox live or whatever ps3 alternative there is.
as for the serverlist, they really dropped the ball on this one.

I'm assuming "Gamestop" should be either "GAME" or "Gamestation".

But... but... the game starts up real fast. And not a problem for some people. So therefore you are wrong and should stop complaining about having to install Origin, use it to launch your browser, and use that browser to play single or multi-player. What's the problem? You installed Steam for games, so therefore that mean's you're willing to install any other service to play any other game.

Fuckin' gamer logic man.
Thank YOU! At first I was opposed to the no in game menus thing, but then I realized it just meant no splash screen on start up. Honestly Battlelog has produced no discernible difference to loading up into a game menu with server browser, except that I get to see tons of stat progression, and no that DICE has promised in game squad management, I have no problem with Battlelog, it actually seems really cool.

As for Origin, I didn't like it at first either, having an embarrassingly large Steam games list, I am a little in love with that distro system. But hearing all the gripe against Origin made me think one thing:

FOR all the complaining PC gamers, like me, do about shitty ports and devs not giving them enough love, they are sure quick to hate on anyone who does. I mean COME ON! EA takes this huge financial risk on PC gamers, and says, "Ok we trust you as a source of income, and respect you as a platform, we might not know you as well as Valve, but we'll give it a go" and PC gamers respond with a collective middle finger.

I never thought of PC gamers as quite so narrow minded or afraid of change as this. Frankly its embarrassing, show a little love and get a little love people. SO THANK YOU IRRIDIUM for being one of the first reasonable people I have seen on this topic.
You do realise his post has been cooked in a vat of sarcasm, don't you? You couldn't be disagreeing more with him if you tried.

Honestly im thinking of getting BF3 for the PS3 just so I have more then 2 games for it. +Free online anyway and no Origin shit.

Shame keyboard doesnt work w/ it....or so Im aware of.
If the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 has keyboard/mouse support, then I don't see why BF3 wouldn't have it as well. Although chances are it probably won't...

OT: I'm not planning to buy either game at the moment but if I had to I'd probably go with BattleField since I enjoyed BFBC2 a lot more than MW2.

Excellent, I need to go fleece some american retailers now the pound is a bit stronger again but I digress..

well that's cool and all you get the chance to play both games for an extra 99p kind-of like making battlefield a dlc pack that you cant keep but, really who's going to buy anything from them anyway?
literally none of the gamers I know shop at game-stop any more
( or at-least, they don't admit to it )

You know what's funny? If you trade in battlefield, Cod would cost you 99p, then you could go and buy the used copy of battlefield which you just handed them, for less then the original cost...

cue epic amounts of pre-owned battlefied 3 they paid nearly 40 quid for and now have to sell. good thinking gamestop!
Actually, as with most of these deals, I think Gamestop is relying on people buying both games as required by the deal, and then not getting around to trading Battlefield back in for the refund. It's not like they're offering a special 99 p trade-in for BF-->CoD. They're getting you to buy two games, and hoping that you'll run out of time to redeem the refund deal on one of them.

I've always thought this was how all 'trade-in' systems worked, more or less. Well, that and the fact that they'll sell the barely-used copies for almost the 'new' price anyway.

Plus, some people might actually get introduced to a new series that they discover they like and keep both games anyway - and frankly, anything that goes toward quashing the absolutely puerile Battlefield vs CoD war that goes on is good, in my opinion! =P

Does this promotion actually exist? I can't find it anywhere on their website, and the link in the OP is broken...

I don't get the bashing on consoles.

Not everyone has 800-1000 dollars laying around to spend on a wicked computer.

Plus, I also like the feel of a controller bet and like gaming on my couch instead of my computer chair where I'm at for most of the time anyways due to online schooling.

Also, have fun with Origin.
