THEORY!!!

I wonder if this dude is the "child" a certain witch wanted. Reasons for this:

The scene at the end where he's looking in the camera. He looks like his mother.
Flemeth is the one talking in the trailer. Not exactly an odd choice, but still.
Flemeth keeps harping how this man will change the world and has a destiny before him. His mother said something similar at the end of Dragon Age.
He had a flashback of an Archdemon, perhaps remembering something from his "birth"
He has powers that clearly have never been seen before. Those looked like dragon claws to me.

So I take it that the Architect's plan didn't work as well as he wanted since Darkspawn are still around? Was that creature ever a Darkspawn? It didn't really look like one.

I really hope they don't make the events in the first game entirely pointless, because I feel a little put out by the fact they took away customization from a very good RPG.

Qunari.

Dragon Age: Origins did in fact have huge swords. (Qunari Sword is a good example, waraxes, 2h mallets, etc)

Looked like a magic finisher.

Do people who love to play Dragon Age: Origins not keep up with DA2? No Hawke is NOT the god child. As said before, Hawke lived in Lothering before it was destroyed. It would make no sense plot wise if he was born in the future, but sent into the past for some odd reason.
Also he has a sister, blood relative.

Indeed, infact I suspect that either the demonic hands were a magical finisher, OR, perhaps this stories tagline was correct and Hawke is Malificar. Which would be very interesting.

I don't understand how Bioware can have a preset character in a Dragon age game...
you speak as if its a long running series, the fact is this ip is quite young and can go in many different ways without deserving outcry, its not such a massive change(I personally welcome it, it'll open to game up to a broader audience)

Preset character, lavish and gorgeous looking cutscene teasing, but showing no content?

Oh. My. God. It looks like a JRPG.

Seriously though, I hate when games do this, and they do it a lot. Nice looking cutscene that shows nothing from the game, and 99% of the time, isnt in the game at all. If your going to TEASE, atleast give us something to wrap our minds around other then a possessed hero.
Pretty much all games do this. There's a debut trailer, and a few other cinematic ones, and the gameplay footage gets shown later at an expo or something. No worries.

Wow, there's some serious negativity over nothing going on here...

You could get two handed weapons in Origins... Guess what, they were the same length, if not longer than the sword that Hawke was carrying in this trailer.

As others have mentioned, everyone was more than giddy when the origins trailers showed nothing but a pre-determined, glowy-eyed dude wandering around cutting up other dudes in full cinematic...

Oh yeah with a big sword.
Then there's his mates who had: A bigger sword, glowing green arrows and of course one of them turned in a gigantic tarantula...

But, wait the sword in this trailer isn't even a big sword!
It's a regular sized sword on the end of an elongated handle... Which to be honest makes it more of a sword/halberd hybrid. Which is awesome, end of discussion on that subject really.

Pre-set guy? I see no issue, Bioware did a fantastic job shaping Commander Shepard into a character we'd all enjoy playing as in our own way, what makes you think they're gonna balls that up with Hawke?

Are some of forgetting that Bioware is one of the rare companies that somehow hasn't screwed up a game yet?

(Forgetting the iPhone thing, obviously...)

Seriously, people.

Chillax, it'll be all right...

On the grounds of him being related to Morrigan: That'd be awesome, but wasn't Hawke a young kid back when Lothering was just about to be attacked?

I'm not saying it's impossible seeing as she seems convinced that the child will be in her before you fight the Dragon at the end of origins, despite the fact that between bumping uglies and killing the dragon there is a space of about one in-game night...

Damnit, I knew I shoulda killed the old guy in Warden's Keep.
And what's with the red eyes? Shepard's got them, now Bioware is going to make all their heroes have red eyes?

Surprised no one mentioned the voice in the trailer is Flemeth's.
Does that mean that the canon story is that you didn't kill her in the first one? I mean, I'm not sure if she completely died, but it would probably take a long time for her to find a suitable person to take over... Unless, maybe you see her only in the early parts of Dragon Age 2 since the stories overlap.

So, far it doesn't seem as crazy extreme powers as I thought it would be from reading the comments. Not close at all to Final Fantasy type levels at all. It does still seem a bit crazy considering how Dragon Age seemed to try to keep the fantasy powers from going to crazy overpowered. I hope the game itself doesn't go any crazier than the trailer though cause even though I like crazy ass fantasy powers, it doesn't seem appropriate to the Dragon Age universe. I'm annoyed there is only one origin and the game does seem like a bit dumbing down, but even if a dumbed down Dragon Age game by Bioware would be fun.
Oh she comng back, hell the game states that they not even sure you actually killed her.

Still can get my head around why they didnt stick with make your characters as it was one of the best selling points. Now it turned into every other bland hero of the land rpg.

I will still get it as i really like the orignal but would have prefered to carry on my characters storyline.
+1
The only reason I went for DA:O in the first place was because a friend told me how brilliant and amazing the character creation was.

I'm sorry, but I just don't like. Sure the vid is all flashy and such, but just not my cup of tea.
Very heavy editing after several people have pointed out my stupidity...
Going on this trailer, I think I'll pass. But - I said the opposite about a certain FPS's first trailer, and ended up very disapointed.
I'll...wait awhile. See how this pans out.

It is official, bioware makes awesome game trailers.
And that took you so long to find out? Have you seen the original trailers for Dragon Age Origins, or for SW:TOR? They are all awesome.

Of course those kind of trailers also tell you near to nothing about the game. Look at the Sacred Ashes trailer for DA:O. Did the combat look a bit different to the combat in the game? It could have advertised a completely different game. What those trailers do on the other hand, is setting the mood. And hell yes did this one set the right mood. I'll have to wait and see how Dragon Age 2 turns out, but I have my hopes high and Bioware better not disappoint me.

You guys complain to much. The game play probably isn't polished enough at this time to be shown off. Its just a trailer to get people excited for the game.

I agree with some of my fellow posters... That's not a darkspawn, that's a qunari!!!
The trailer looks good though! I won't be hoping that the entire game looks like that (Andraste's Ashes cinematic trailer, anyone?...), but still. And maybe I'm warming up to Hawke.
