I'm not even seeing combat, I'm seeing delayed action high-school drama performances of what dying and shooting looks like. Forget realism, I just prefer game-play where you can't seriously apply the dialogue 'Argh. I am dead'. It doesn't look 'bad' as it were; I said 'soporific' (meaning it puts you to sleep) not pathetic.rsvp42 said:I'm confused. Where are you seeing bad combat in this?
Well, I guess if you include Mac as a PC then, yes, I have a PC. I have't looked, but I just naturally assumed that SW:TOR wouldn't be supported on Mac OS.Dr. wonderful said:Wait, how did you type that message though?Zom-B said:Well, I don't have a pc, so won't be playing this, but it actually looks much more promising now. The combat still looked a little bland and the environments and scenes seemed severely underpopulated, but this game may actually have a fighting chance at some success.
Just curious.
This. A million times this.Dastardly said:Wow... that trailer actually makes the combat look very disappointing. BioWare has fallen into the standard LucasArts trap: Cram the game full of as much iconography as you can.Team Hollywood said:Star Wars: The Old Republic Bounty Hunter Class Trailer

Oh, so one bounty hunter had a flame thrower? ALL bounty hunters should have them! So one bounty hunter froze his quarry in carbonite (which, incidentally, was only because he happened to confront the guy in a freezing facility)? ALL bounty hunters should use it!
It's the same in the books. Everyone is obligated to have a certain concentration of movie-references-per-page, even about things it's reasonable to think most galactic residents wouldn't know.
We get it. It's the Star Wars Universe. But every time you cram the game into tightly-controlled, narrow archetypes, you make that "universe" so much smaller. By constantly including toys, you're constantly removing possibilities.
I know what soporific means (or rather Google did, I just asked it), so calling the combat sleep-inducing sounds bad. Hence my question. You should have said it looks hokey or affected or something. I'd still disagree (because I'm not seeing any campy death animation or awkward timing), but then I'd be less confused as to what you're getting at.Ultrajoe said:I'm not even seeing combat, I'm seeing delayed action high-school drama performances of what dying and shooting looks like. No, I mean soporific, as in it bores me. The bounty hunter runs into a group of foes. They run up to him and begin beating him up, something he does not react to. They then keep performing their animations as he decides to do a rather robotic flamer spin. The game doesn't look like a fight, it looks very obviously like sprites taking turns farting particle effects. Their transitions are blocky and the 'Deliberately dated' art aesthetic does nothing to hide this fact.rsvp42 said:I know what soporific means (or rather Google did, I just asked it), so calling the combat sleep-inducing sounds bad. Anyway, I should probably limit my campaigning for this game to my friends and the official forums.
Oh, believe me, there's plenty of debate and discussion on the forums. People pick apart literally everything. I fully agree that that should happen. But at the same time, it helps to avoid doomsaying and negativity unless it's warranted. It's easy to get bogged down in worry and speculation. Every time a Friday update is small or uninteresting, people start predicting the end of this game, then they flip flop as soon as we get a big update. I just encourage waiting and playing the game before making sweeping judgments of it. Most of the feedback from game testing has been really positive.Ultrajoe said:No, I mean soporific, as in it bores me. The bounty hunter runs into a group of foes. As for preaching to the converted over on the official forums, I don't mean to imply an insult, but isn't it better for game development to question and challenge the problems with a game before it goes live?
They don't:Sniper Team 4 said:Does anyone else go, "Oooh, Mass Effect," when that BioWare logo comes on? No? Just me? Hm...
For crying out loud, not all bounty hunters have to look like BOBA FETT!
Have you read the Republic Commando books? They do a good job of breaking the mold (still some references, but only a few).Dastardly said:Wow... that trailer actually makes the combat look very disappointing. All of the hunters have flamethrowers, freezing ray things, and etc. It's not just for one hunter and if you're lucky you may just get a flamethrower. It's a class video, ALL the bounty hunters will have what the hunter in the video has. The armor of course is optional and Mandalorian armor often looks the same. And it's star wars. It started with movies, of course it's gonna have things from the movies in it.Dastardly said:Wow... that trailer actually makes the combat look very disappointing. Each class has an alien.Slaanax said:I don't see any indication about playing an alien, and that really disappoints me kind of ruins the fun for me.
That's some what comforting, I guess the voice acting limits this somewhat disappointingly.JaicerTheBandit said:Each class has an alien.Slaanax said:I don't see any indication about playing an alien, and that really disappoints me kind of ruins the fun for me.
Trooper = Zabrak
Smuggler = Twi'lek
Jedi Knight = Miraluka (although thats more human looking anyway)
Inquisiter = I dunno what they are called.
Hunter = The thing Asaaj Ventrus is
Sith Warrior = Sith Pureblood (A human with a nasty sunburn)
Consular = something green
Agent = Chiss
Yeah well not many people speak alien lol. They MAY have some races speak the alien language if you choose it but I doubt it. Most of the aliens will probably speak english. Just imagine a realllyyyy fat Twi'lek with a high pitched british accent. I would play just to see that.Slaanax said:That's some what comforting, I guess the voice acting limits this somewhat disappointingly.JaicerTheBandit said:Each class has an alien.Slaanax said:I don't see any indication about playing an alien, and that really disappoints me kind of ruins the fun for me.
