anc[is]Wow, those animations are... fucking awful.
This.
Some of them in this trailer are a little dodgy, but if you check out the Taral V video above, they look on par with any MMO I've seen. They may not be the best game animations out there, but "fucking awful" is taking it too far. At worst, you could say "meh."

Can't argue against my claim without resulting to insults? That doesn't help your position. Fact of the matter is, KoTOR I+II had more proportional character models then this, as well as a less stylized art direction in general.
They're a little more exaggerated, but not by a huge amount. There's some beefier dudes and some bustier women, but not all the character models are like that. Besides, the stylized look helps it age better.

Why do all the dudes look stupidly muscular?
JEDIS HAVE NO NEED FOR MUSCLE.
Yeah I was thinking that, there better be some Darth Sideous like Sith in this.
Plus, it looked like the final path to the Sith is some variation of "Darth Vader" with some kind of mechanical body. That or General Grevious.

Just out of curiosity, why did the Sith character saved the Twi'lek girl at the end there? I get that she may be an ally, but that few seconds seemed to emphasize this rescue, which gives me the impression the Sith in here are not the "evil" Jedi-side.
It's because not all sith are pure evil, some of can show compassion.

Why do both the sith variants have fucking mechanical parts? What if I want a darth maul type? Or a darth sideous? This game sucks. I hate it already.

I don't think fantasy RPG and star wars mix well, this trailer was really gay. Which is why I won't be buying it. For that reason alone.

To be honest I think the worst looking thing about this video is that the lightsabers have no effect on the bodies. Anyone know if thats just for the trailers?
There's video evidence that sabers leave temporary strike marks on enemies, but that's about it. No severed limbs, no insta-death. That's how it was in the original KoTOR as well. Making them act like "real" sabers isn't good for balance or fun, just like making guns in CoD act like real guns would be frustrating and it's why swords and axes in WoW don't hurt people the way real swords and axes would.
I didnt mean insta-death just that critical kills or very high damage(Maybe double enemy hp) kills would cause a different death animation where they did have a dismembering effect. It would be fun to go back to an area like the starting area and just run through cutting of npc heads legs or arms like a real sith. Pity either way
If you want some finishing moves, the Jedi Knight progression looks like it has some of those. Not chomping off legs or anything, but, well, take a look.

Admittedly, the FIRST lightsaber the Jedi makes looks a little large, but all of the follow ups, seem much more refined. This leads me to believe that the video is made up of shots from various points in production.

Hey, you're preaching to the choir. I've been saying all this on the main forums for months. But I come back to the Escapist and see the comments and I'm like, what? Are we looking at the same game? Anyway, there's always going to be haters. I just prefer it when they have a good reason, not just the same canned negativity, with people parroting the same complaints they had year ago, despite all the improvements.
To be honest, by the end of my post, I was only half replying to you. I just wanted to show something to all those who are complaining that, I think, completely invalidates all their complaints. And, I've noticed far too many people hating on this game on the Escapist, too. Sometimes, I wonder if we're looking at the same game.

I CANNOT wait for the scathing reviews!
Or... not, since game reviewers rate things according to hype; rather then content.
This is what confounds me. It's one thing to be uninterested in a game or even to dislike it before release, but to actually hope it fares poorly?

...sarcasm? I can't tell sometimes. Either way, I don't think those were cybernetic parts, just masks. Techno masks.

A little sarcasm but I'm still not going to buy it. Star Wars just doesn't mix well with "that" style of gaming. RPG? Maybe someoen could make a SW RPG but certainly not how they're doing it.

And the Cyborg wannabes... Well that was partial trolling. But I really don't like how they portrayed sith. They're supposed to be bad-asses. They turned them all into darth vader. Now vader is a fucking bad ass but if every sith in the fucking galaxy had the exact same look, well that would suck.

And why is he red?

You didn't Like KOTOR then? If not then it's clearly not a game for you anyways, Bioware did a SW RPG quite well already proving the concept is not only possible but can be wildly popular.

Also, that's not the only armor set in the game. Besides that, you can customize the color of your armor pieces so you can mix and match with out being a clown like on WoW. So no, the look of the toons will be far more unique than other games. (Anyone seen the tier 12 WoW armor? LOL!)

They did a select armor progression of a couple of sets, did you expect them to make an hour long video showing everything?

He's red because he's a Sith Pureblood. It's one of the races you can choose on the Sith side.

And they don't all look that way, they just took a couple sets on each side to showcase. I'm basing this assumption on the fact that not all bounty hunters in the game look like Boba Fett and not all smugglers look like Han Solo. Some armor sets are inspired by them, but not all.

A lot of the comments on here strike me as just being from players of other MMO's that are scared of a competitor.

Huh... looks like KoTOR... After this many years I was sort of hoping the graphics had improved a bit.

I like how people are complaining about animations when the game isn't even released.

They obviously wont be when released...simple.

Darth Maul type is a Sith Inquisitor, the Assassin Advanced Class. It uses light armor and a double bladed lightsaber. Darth Sidious type is a Sith Inquisitor, the Sorcerer Advanced Class. It uses a single lightsaber and focuses on Force Lightning the shit out of everything.

Then again, feel free to not buy the game. Looking at your attitude and how fast them toys are flying out the pram, you won't be missed :)

Spoilered in order to avoid image spam. If you still have issues telling which game is which, I can recommend a good optician :)

why wouldn't jedi warrior not need muscles? just because you can do everything with the force does mean you have to, they also walk and lift things despite the fact that they could float. being a great swordsman in star wars is not tied to being strong in the force, it certainly helps but is not needed.

Indeed. Also, people should use their brains a bit. You might not need physical strength to cut through a robot with a lightsaber. But if you're lightsaber locked with another Jedi/Sith, you better believe who's stronger is gonna matter.

I haven't played an MMO since Guild Wars in 2005 so I don't know what the current standard is, but if what you say is true then MMO animations haven't improved at all in the last 6 years! I guess in MMO land, quantity (of content) still rules over quality. :(

Jeez. Never thought I'd have to feel sorry for Bioware.

Never thought I'd actually would feel sorry for Bioware after Dragon Age 2.

But there you go. I just can't see this game succeeding.

Great darkness in this games future I see...

You know, or alot of talented folks going out of work.

Force-schwartz. It's like the enemies are aiming at the lightsaber. Yeah, it makes for more sparks and particle effects but it's just silly. Why bother parrying shots that are sure to miss?

Why would it be useful to just let allies die? Sith aren't "Evil" (not all of them anyway) since being plain evil isn't that good a tactic. Pissing away resources just cause it's not in keeping with being the bad guy is a costly policy.
