The first thing I noticed were the new Mandalorian Models. Couldn`t care for the rest of the video.
I never played Guild Wars, so I can't compare, but technically, the passage of time has nothing to do with quality of animation. Either your animators do well or they don't. For example, Toy Story 3's animation isn't necessarily better than Beauty and the Beast simply because it came out 19 years later. The rest of the graphics do update at steady rates, but the animation techniques (in terms of the 12 principles) don't change much through the decades.Guy Jackson said:I haven't played an MMO since Guild Wars in 2005 so I don't know what the current standard is, but if what you say is true then MMO animations haven't improved at all in the last 6 years! I guess in MMO land, quantity (of content) still rules over quality.![]()
Animations in games have improved considerably over the decades. Besides, the above statement seems to be rather at odds with your position that the animations are good "for an MMO". If animations are simply "good or not" then why does it matter that it's an MMO?rsvp42 said:I never played Guild Wars, so I can't compare, but technically, the passage of time has nothing to do with quality of animation. Speaking for myself, it wasn't the interactions that bothered me (though they too were bad). For me, each individual animation looked low-quality and the transitions between animations were really bad (actually such transitions were mostly non-existent, with RETURN ENTIRE BODY TO DEFAULT STANCE usually separating one animation from the next). As I mentioned, there is a little weirdness when animations have to interact...

Technology has improved considerably, but the ability to portray fluid animation hasn't changed much between 2005 (Guild Wars) and now. I'm not giving game animators a free pass, I'm simply comparing TOR's animations to other current MMOs and in that respect, they're on par.Guy Jackson said:Animations in games have improved considerably over the decades. Ah. Well then I won't take up any more space in your inbox... except for this. I just saw "fucking awful" and it struck me as excessively negative, even disregarding my own fondness for the game.Guy Jackson said:In any case, we're butting heads for no good reason. I thought "fucking awful" was a very accurate description of the quality of these animations. If you disagree, good for you! Enjoy the game with my best wishes.
Yes, if only someone could make a critically-acclaimed Star Wars RPG that would sell considerably well, spawn a sequel, and then a subsequent MMO.jawakiller said:A little sarcasm but I'm still not going to buy it. Star Wars just doesn't mix well with "that" style of gaming. RPG? Maybe someoen could make a SW RPG but certainly not how they're doing it.rsvp42 said:...sarcasm? I can't tell sometimes. Or a darth sideous? This game sucks. I hate it already.
I don't think fantasy RPG and star wars mix well, this trailer was really gay. Which is why I won't be buying it. For that reason alone.
But it still looks really lame. You saw the fight animations, its just a typical RPG with a Star Wars skin.Woodsey said:Yes, if only someone could make a critically-acclaimed Star Wars RPG that would sell considerably well, spawn a sequel, and then a subsequent MMO.
Also, there are 2 end-game armour types in that video, there are hundreds of variations. And the warrior is designed around the Vader archetype anyway, you can play one more like Sidious (and dress them as such) too.
You gotta get with the times, brick shithouse space marine is the standard nowPalademon said:Why do all the dudes look stupidly muscular?
JEDIS HAVE NO NEED FOR MUSCLE.
Yeah I mean just look at how darth maul completely beat qui-gon. Decades more experience lost out to the sith style of physical force mixed with aggression. If Darth maul was a skinny runt or fat then it would've been a different story. Plus darth vader gets rubbish in his suit cos he has no body. Anyway yes they're encouraged to be at peak physical fitness, with Sith emphasising muscle gain as well.cefm said:This is not true, young apprentice. The mind and the body must be in harmony in order to be a Jedi. One cannot have an active mind and a slothful body. It doesn't matter if the Force allows you to know where an enemy's next blow will land if your arms are too slow to get your light-saber there in time to block, or your wrists are too weak to hold when your blades meet.Palademon said:Why do all the dudes look stupidly muscular?

Just to be clear, KotOR = RPG, this is TOR (MMORPG).jawakiller said:But it still looks really lame. Personally, I dislike MMOs(like WoW)and the fighting in KotOR definitely looks like the same dry concept used in popular MMORPGs. So I guess I have no say in the matter.
There are two Sith Classes. This is the Sith Warrior, based on Darth Vader. You can also be a Sith Inquisitor, who can advance to Sith Assassin (your Darth Maul type) or Sith Sorcerer (your Darth Sideous type).jawakiller said:Why do both the sith variants have fucking mechanical parts? They should really reconsider the cartoony and stylized art direction, it fits in more with that awful SW cartoon show more then it does with the KoTOR games. The costumes and armor look ridiculous, and the proportions of the characters are on par with barbie dolls for being anatomically proportional, especially the overmuscled male models. Watching the development of ToR is like watching a car wreck in slow motion. It's horrifying to watch the extent to which they are willing to trash the KoTOR series in the name of milking it for all it's worth, but at the same time, I can't look away, because it is so fascinating to watch the extents to which they are going!
So, Warrior Rogue and Mage? Wow, Bioware. Really making Star Wars unique there aint ya.FaceFaceFace said:There are two Sith Classes. This is the Sith Warrior, based on Darth Vader.
