Don't get one then. You can't look cool while panting and sweating.
they don't make coats just for show? i am needing a new coat anyway tho
They do, but you're still going to get quite warm. Try a duster (there's a difference) instead, they usually are better in the heat.

Do you aspire to be a flasher or just want to look like one?
nieghter, i just think trench coats look cool, is there something weird about that?
I think certain people can pull it off, but most people will look rather odd.

If you can pull it off, go right ahead.
Everyone can pull it off if they wore an awesome mask with it.

Preferably a sockmask, not a sock, but a mask that looks like a sock.

With a smiley face on it.

I love my long brown coat, i wouldn't consider it a trench, although it does fit the same size description.
Had it since i was 17 and i bought it purely for the fact it had purple lining on the inside.

Well hell, if you're gonna buy a duster, get a cowboy hat too.
Exactly. If a trench coat get a fedora, if a duster get a cowboy hat and if a great coat get either a cap, some form of helmet or one of those Russian beanies (I have no idea what they are called).

I have a gentleman's overcoat, on the principle that:

1. England is cold, and overcoat's a warm.

2. No matter what is said, it still looks rather cool.

3. It conceals whatever contrabrand I might be carrying.

Try a greatcoat instead, much the same but usually a bit thicker so it's got an arguable use, specially if you live somewhere cold. Also it depends on if you are trying to look badass, in which case it won't work or if you just like the ability to have a dozen pockets, depending on the coat.
Greatcoats don't make you look badass, but they can make you look quite dapper. Especially if you have a Tilly hat and a scarf to go with it.

Speaking through personal experience here.

Okay, then...allow me to respond TO THE ACTUAL QUESTION...jeez...

Seydaman, there's a ton of different styles and price ranges on what constitutes a "trench coat". If you want the look of someone who could blend in with the Wall Street types, any kind of London Fog coat would suffice; those are the types with the three large buttons down one side, and almost always come with a belt(see that picture of Rorschach). If you're looking for more of a "bad-ass" style, you'll want something called a Reverend's/Preacher's Coat (hey, I don't name 'em, I'm just a fan.) These are the style that tend to hug close on the shoulders and through the trunk, flaring out at the hips, almost like bell bottoms-for an example of that, done well, check out the coat Ashe Corven wears in the second Crow movie. There are also dusters and riding coats, but if you want quality out of one of those, you're going to have to get a Jacaru or a Drizzabone which can be a little pricey, but are definitely worth it.
the revenrands cloak i saw looked really sweet, do you know any trusted sellers?
This is going to sound ridiculous, but I have three of the things, all different styles, and all from the same company--Red Balls on Fire. Yes, it's the real name, and yes, it's like "A Tribe Called Quest", you say the whole thing. Depending on the kind you want, my favorite one has high cuffs with "silver" buttons on them and closes at the waist with three more buttons, the coat itself is made of thick, brushed cotton--it's almost like canvas, I've had it for almost five years with no real problems, typical wear and tear, etc.

Actually, if you go here http://www.redballs.com/id4.html you'll see the coat I'm talking about, right side, third one down

EDIT: After checking the prices on the site, I feel compelled to tell you that I bought mine at Goth Profit for MUCH cheaper...I got mine for around fifty bucks as opposed to the two hundred they want.

The coat I speak of satisfies both criteria, if it's a bit chilly out, button it, otherwise wear it open; there's no lining to speak of, it's just double layered heavy cotton, as I said earlier.

What would be good fun is ware yur Trench Coat with shorts. then go into a crowd and slowly unbutten it.

Or another fav, get another friend (w/ a trench coat) and walk into a public place (mall, school, exc...) keep eye contact with your partner in a very public way, and keep noding at each other every few seconds.

There's nothing wrong with eccentric jackets. I mean, people got over my black leather with black fur* lining, and I'm not a goth, so what's the problem?

*fake fur.
Oh, the irony.
