Vietnam would be awesome. Maybe they'll add in some controversy and let you pillage and rape innocent people?
Yeah...lets not.

Could be Vietnam, could be the Korean War (although thats still technically going on).

NO NO NO NO Please... NO this is just pathetic...

They will probably give up on it and then give us another generic re-skinned Cod with some little thing that makes the flock mentality of most of the fan base go "OMG OMG OMG I wants that" Then we end up with constant "Come play 'Jap zombies' with me naow!!!!" aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall over again.

Please IW, Treyarch let us play the games before shoveling more out and I'm all for keeping "winning formula" but there is keeping a formula and re-skinning, PLEASE learn the difference.

Sounds like it's time again for... the Guess the Name for the Next Call of Duty Game Game!

I'll start:

Call of Duty: World of Warcraft
Call of Duty: Om Nam Nam Nam
Call of Duty: All Your Cash Are Belong to Us
Call of Duty: Revolutionary War
Call of Duty: War of 1812
Call of Duty: Civil War
Call of Duty: Ancient Warfare
Call of Duty: Parallel Incursion/Evacuation Contingent Exercises (CoDPIECE)
Call of Duty: Dedicated Servers
The Call of Duty Saga: New Moon
Call of Duty: Kill More Civilians
Call of Doody: Restroom Break
Call of Daddy: Little Sisters United
Call of Duty: World at War 2
Call of Duty: Legends
Call of Duty: Byzantine Warfare
Given enough weeks Activision will undoubtedly make all of these.

But don't forget Call of Duty-Free with it's controversial level that sees you playing as a member of a sinister shoplifting group, stealing all of the Kinder Suprise you can carry from the Duty Free in a Moscow Airport. Don't tell the Christian Mothers!

And so the yo-yo of Call of Duty's time setting was swung once again and it was good. (I guess)

Extract from future history books about this era.

The next CoD better not be set in Veitnam. You'd have to play as the veitnamese just to win the damn game.

CoD7: Cuban Missile Crisis.

We all sit around a table and debate whether to fire on Russia.

Bonus mission: You get to fly the plane over Cuba and take pictures of their missiles.
lol that sounds amazing, maybe even have a mission where you're in one of the battleships blockading cuba (press x to wave warning flare)
might get shot at in the bonus mission but officially you didn't sooo...

How about The northern Ireland troubles?

It would come completely out of left field.
.
Being a member of the Flying Columns would be cool, lots of stealth.

Sneaking through Cork, slitting the throats of the bastard Black and Tans... yeah it would definately be awesome

The troubles are still a little too close to home for a lot of people here though and it might cause offense.

Yes, go Treyarch, Vietnam/Cold War gets 2 big thumbs up from me, I am sick of WW2 this is what I am hoping for, lets hope they deliver. I happen to be a big fan of Treyarch and have sunk more time into COD3 and WAW than MW1 and 2 combined. They are a very competent developer and don't get nearly enough credit for the work they do. People say they just copy IW, they amount they added to WAW should prove them wrong, IW are even coping back off of Treyarch now in some aspects.

As long as they nail the atmosphere, in the campaign I will be happy, WAW wasn't quite as gritty as it could have been(despite a valiant effort) lets hope Vietnam provides them with the setting they need. And of course a balanced and substantial multiplayer, no more overpowered mp40's!

This is a definite purchase for me, I just find Treyarches games more fun than IW's

A Cold War CoD sounds mightily interesting to me indeed, there was a lot of smaller-scale wars and conflicts going on throughout directly related to the rise of Communism and the Cold War... and if it's simply a straight-up Vietnam War game then that's pretty interesting, too.

Vietnam would be awesome if they didn't turn the Viet Cong into an evil, screaming, savage BANZAI cult or Gestapo-like brutes like the Japanese in WaW.

I'd personally love an ethically questionable shooter. It'd be like No Russian over an entire jungle-lush campaign...WITH NAPALM

Vietnam would be interesting but I wouldn't buy it because it is still COD and I get more pissed off with those games compared with the amount of time I actualy have fun.

I wonder if they would talk about French involvement in Vietnam too? Or if it will just be America's role. Has the potential to be interesting.

Man, that would be an awesome job though. I'd love to do that.

i really hope they go for the nam, and that they do it properly. There are so many awsome movies about it, and hardly any games (bf:vietnam was good but graphics are outdated)

oh and if its WW1 then they should have you play the german or austrian army, but they prob wont take it as the americans did nothing significant (in the breach) in WW1

As long as the main character doesn't look like he should be performing with ZZ Top, it's already better than the new Medal of Honor game. Though I do kind of hope it isn't in Vietnam, Treyarch laid down the patriotic dialogue and storytelling pretty ham-handedly in CoD3 and WaW. I don't really want to watch the community thearter version of Platoon as written by 8th graders.

Also, if they do make a Vietnam game, than all they need is a game set about a century in the future and a very good mod set in the first Persian Gulf and Call of Duty will finally have totally caught up with the Battlefield franchise.

Technically as it is a COD game you would play as a British soldier. This is because the series gets you to play as the winning side, not the ones planting bombs then running away.
Oh but of course your idea would be good for a sequel where the player is a Taliban planting bombs then running away to their holes!

Treyarch is looking for a level builder & designer who possesses not just the technical acumen and experience to craft a well-made mission, but a willingness to "[r]esearch subject matter for history and look of the level."
History could also mean the historical context of a modern setting. The Russian levels in COD4 wouldn't have been very compelling if the design didn't allude to the waste left in the Cold War's wake.

That said, if they want to make a Vietnam game count me in. If they want to make an Irish Troubles game, count me way-the-fuck in. Into playing it, not researching and designing levels... I'd be horrible for that.
