Let me point out that that I couldn't care less about the specific intentions of the OP because at best, this thread was started out of ignorance.

Lately, I've found myself greatly irritated whenever someone passes along information that's "obvious" in a way that it tends to incite very similar responses among the populace. I'll rephrase and ask again: What's the point of it? To ignite righteous indignation? To gloat over the perceived stupidity of other people? To crush our "faith in humanity"? Judging by the viciousness in which the masses attack and how much attention is paid on such minor issues, it's becoming clearer and clearer to me, that this information is just a set up. It's as if regular media tabloids are replaced with self-parody while the real misinformation works under a guise within a different source. A distraction. Flies on shit.

See, it's very easy to expose the stupidity in people, if you know the right people, but it's much harder to figure out if someone is smart and who actually knows how to play the system. Do you ever notice why people are always astounded when faced with a new phenomenon, when someone acts out of the beloved cultural norms, they choose to brush it off as mental illness or drugs? And their solution to the former is to put them on drugs? It doesn't fuckin' add up, I tell you. There's unrest in America, and it's only a matter of time when an upheaval forces the infrastructure to collapse on itself and I can't say I'm enthusiastic about it, because this collapse will be likely be caused by the same people who choose to attack such laughably bad targets.

I do feel sorry for the sensible, normal, intelligent body of Americans every time your retarded country-mates start mouthing off. I guess you could just think of yourself as honorary Canadians to get you through those stretches ;)

Two reasons this doesn't make sense.
1:Even it was some sort of divine payback why wouldn't it have come 10 minutes after the Pearl Harbour attack.
2:America launched the only two nuclear attacks on a country in history and killed a hell of a lot more people than Japan ddid in Pearl Harbour, I think that's payback enough.

I think if I was trying to make America look bad I could come up with better ammunition than a small amount of the population saying ridiculous things.

Just because something isn't pro-american doesn't mean it's anti-american, I didn't say "Americans are clearly stupid" as other people have in this thread. I said that some Americans had been saying these things, not ALL Americans.
First off, in your OP, you actually state that "a fair amount of Americans" believe this, which implies that you believe the number is not small. You also use the word "torrent" to describe the number of comments, which then implies not just a non-small number, but a large number. That doesn't exactly come off as a belief that this only applies to a small percentage of the population.

Second, it seems like you meant it as an anti-American thing given the timing and the general attitudes of the forum, which if you've been around the forum lately, you could have been pretty easily able to pick up on. If you really believed that it is just a small number of Americans who believe this, and didn't want people to associate these ideas with the country at large, you could have been clearer in your OP about it. Sure, some would ignore it and rag on the US anyway, but it wouldn't leave the impression that that's what you wanted. I know that not every thread about the US or any country at all should be a good thing, but the way this OP was worded doesn't exactly read right to me.
Well if you percieve this as an attempt to bash America then all I can do is to apologise and swear that that's not what I set out to do. I saw all of those comments and felt enraged by them, resulting in a wish to feel vindicated in my anger at such stupidity.

If something happened to England and lots of Scottish people were saying it was well deserved for historical reasons I'd probably do the exact same thing.

I never said there are no stupid people in the UK, I'm saying that I have never seen anything quite this bad from the residents of any other country, and if I have, it's been more than obvious that the people involved are joking, which I don't think is the case here.
But that still implies that you hold the notion that only Americans are capable of taking such stupid comments seriously, which is a misconception that I'm trying to clear up. You mention that when people of other nationalities say things like this, you believe it's obvious they're joking. Well, perhaps, does it ever occur to you that:
A) People of other nationalities might NOT be joking
or
B) Americans may be joking too?
I'm just saying that the way you're describing your thought process comes off as a bit discriminatory when you read these kinds of things. It makes you sound as if some disaster struck Germany and you saw British comments like these saying "Take that you Germans, that's karma for the London bombings! Give 'em hell, nature!" you would assume it's a joke while here, you assume they mean it. That's kinda discriminatory, isn't it?

Also, lets think about this for a minute. Yes Pearl Harbor sucked, but Japan had the two nukes, we had the Blitz, Russia had Stalingrad, Germany had Dresden. In regards to loss of innocent lives any damage to infrastructure, America got off pretty lightly out of WW2 compared to everybody else. So why have so many Americans not got over it yet when the rest of the world has had to. That's what WE'RE upset about.
I'm not defending any part of what they're saying at all, and agree that it is absolutely despicable. I hope I don't sound like I am trying to defend their ideas. I'm just asserting the point that it really doesn't take a special kind of person to be such an asshole.

I swear, with every year, it gets more and more tempting.
I'm prepared to even deal with the shitload of snow they probably get for decent healthcare and hopefully more intelligent people.

Might have to learn French too.

I'm going to be honest with you, I'm not sure what point you were trying to make there. You went from a protest at these posts that bring to attention something reprehensible so everyone can get worked up and denounce them, into a mini-tirade against tabloids and misinformation, into touching on a conspiracy theory, into a protest against fear of difference, wrapping up with talk of upheaval and infrastructure collapse caused by the mainstream majority.

Perhaps you need to get your ideas lined up a bit better ;)

That's so stupid. Did they forget that we dropped TWO-not one, but fucking TWO- nukes on Japan at the end of WW2? I think we got out "payback" and then some back then, even though they weren't dropped for "payback" in the first place.

Plus, as one guy points out in that image, it was 70 years ago. And even though he isn't using that info correctly, I will. It was a long time ago, we have made peace with Japan, and nobody in Japan's or the US's current government really had anything to do with either bombing Pearl Harbor or dropping nukes.

These people saying "payback for Pearl Harbor" are nothing short of complete idiots.

Hey, snow's cool (heh) and I think only half the country has French as a second language :] Heck, I wouldn't mind living in Canada if only the cities were a bit less "American" in layout - I'm a big fan of compact European cities. Which is irrelevant >.>

Apparently there is a fair amount of Americans claiming that the Tsunami currently ravaging Japan can be seen as payback for an attack in WW2.
I laughed so hard that I fell out of my chair when I read that.
Seriously????

So, if that was "payback" for Pearl Harbor...then what the fuck was the Pacific Campaign in World War 2 all about? It's things like that that make me pine to changes species to something that doesn't include ignorant redneck slapheads.

These people must be stirring the shitpot just to draw attention to themselves...that must be the only rational explanation. I can't possibly share the same genetics with people that stupid. None of us can!

I have never been so disgusted to be an American then as I am right now. It is hard to seen on the screen shot, but it is even harder to see it in person. I had work this morning, and I heard tsunami jokes. I shit you not, Jokes. And my wonderful coworkers were also talking about how these tsunamis are a sign of 2012 being correct, totally disregarding the fact that there is a large group of people suffering.
Peoples' reaction to this tragedy has truly SHAKEN my faith in humanity.

Why is anybody surprised by this? A man who shot his ex, her boyrfiend, and a random police officer sitting in a car, who then went on the run had a Facebook fan-page branding him a legend (This was in the UK, so we can't take the high ground on this one).

The most idiotic thing about it all is that Facebook isn't as anonymous as somewhere like here.

Never be surprised by human callousness or stupidity.

I'd apologize on behalf of my country, but considering the constant stream of stupid shit my country says and does I don't think anyone would care.

The tsunami caused that?! Dammit, I was saving up just to visit that.

I really hope, once the people are all accounted for, buildings are restored, the dead mourned for and buried, supplies and food brought in, goods accounted for, normal lives somewhat restored, they decide to fix it.

I really hope so.

That was more like revenge than retribution.
Can we clear this up: Hiroshima and Nagasaki are far more complex issues than people on this thread are making out. They quite arguably saved far more lives than they took.

[sub]Note that I'm not condoning either event, just pointing it out.[/sub]
They are more complex. But the loss of life is never good.

The U.S was as big a monster as the enemy they were fighting.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_war_crimes

The U.S. where the ones that kept this really hushed up as to not shame the country of Japan, Trust me those Nukes were no where near as bad as what Japan did in WW2.

I don't agree that "the tsunami is payback" but seriously Japan was as bad if not worse than Hitler and the Nazi's in WW2.
Not gonna lie, they were pretty horrific, but 2 words:
Guantanamo Bay

America is just as crap as most countries, hideous things happen in war and you could find an example of that for just about any country around. There is no excuse for this, Japan didn't gloat over Katrina (to my knowledge anyway), so who the hell gets off and enjoys laughing at others misery. Jokes can be in bad taste, a few months after the event, but not on the same damn day!

Actually, I would think it would be more of a mid-life crisis, hopefully there is still a few more billion years before it starts getting old.
