Hello fellow Escapees; Up until now I have been a meat-eater; I've drifted along eating like everyone else and not giving a second thought.

A while back I saw ......something...that made me feel a little disgusted and now I feel ill whenever I even think about eating meat.

I'm not one of those pretentious hippies who go on and on about how 'animals are people too' as I understand that animals need meat to function (Are lions ignorant and fat?)

But this has really got to me and I feel really disgusted; So to all the Vegetarian escapists -

what would be a good way to change my diet without getting major cravings or feeling ill; I understand it wont be easy - but what did you do, how did you change your diet, what foods did you eat to help change from a Meat-eater to a vegetarian?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: This is the Video - if it is somehow against the rules - I apologize sincerely.

I think I'm the only vegetarian Escapist, though I could be wrong.

OT, I usually just eat proteins that are in beans, cheese and peanuts. I don't ever have a craving for meat because...well,I've never had it.

You shouldn't feel ill just from being a veggie by the way. Just eat like you normally would, but when you would normally eat meat, replace it with a different source of protein. That's what I do and I'm perfectly healthy.

Also Tofu is a great meat replacer because its made for just that, a meat replacement.

If you have any other questions, PM me if you want.

Well, I'd start with lots of corn, potatoes, oranges, apples, and bananas.
Thats all I can really offer, I love my meat and will never stop eating it.

Sorry thats probably just making things worse.

what could make anyone turn from meat
I didn't fight my way to the top of the food chain to eat plants!

I'm not a vegetarian but I'd find some of those meat replacement food things. It's like fake meat for veggies.

There's aquite a lot actually. Every so often there's a veggie-bashing thread that has to be put down.

Learn to cook tofu with flavour. I'm not a veggie but lived with a couple and that's one of the first things you need to do. Also, start trying new veggies and fruits. If you don't, you'll think the variety of your food has dropped, which may put you back on meat.

Nuts, too. Eggs and such. As many of those alternatives as you find, get.

It's expensive work ,though.

Vegetarianism isn't the great earth-shattering decision some people paint it out to be.
One day when I was 10, I decided I wouldn't eat meat.
And that was it.
The thing is, it's how you spice your food which determines the flavour of a dish.
Meat is merely a medium.
As is squash, aubergine and mushrooms.

Meat is a chemical requirement for the human system. There is no alternative. To have a healthy diet, you must eat meat.
Untrue.

Well I hope you're not one of those vegetarians who last the whole of two days before eating a bacon sandwich.

Try and find some good veggie recepies, there are a lot of them around.

Oh, and never try to find an alternative to meat (e.g. fake meat). They pretty much always suck and make you miss the real thing.

well, so long as it's not a morals thing good luck. unfortunately for you every single meat replacer (tofu ect) sucks some MAJOR balls.

I've had several friends become vegetarians, and they really didn't have any problems like cravings or anything else. Just make sure you get your protein from somewhere and it's all well and good.
