I went vegetarian last year, and it was (and still) hard to give up eating meat because I love chicken. Plus I'm the only one in my family who doesn't eat meat. My advice is to figure out how to make vegetarian alternatives of things that have meat. Morningstar makes some good food.

I respect the non-hippy vegetarians, so I will assist you.

First off, it's been said, tofu tofu tofu, get used to the stuff.
Secondly, uh that's about it.
Avoid steakhouses, burger joints, and chicken places. And you'll probably not want to visit countries where meat is a dietary staple.

Hello fellow Escapees; Up until now I have been a meat-eater; I've drifted along eating like everyone else and not giving a second thought.

A while back I saw ......something...that made me feel a little disgusted and now I feel ill whenever I even think about eating meat.

I'm not one of those pretentious hippies who go on and on about how 'animals are people too' as I understand that animals need meat to function (Are lions ignorant and fat?)

But this has really got to me and I feel really disgusted; So to all the Vegetarian escapists -

what would be a good way to change my diet without getting major cravings or feeling ill; I understand it wont be easy - but what did you do, how did you change your diet, what foods did you eat to help change from a Meat-eater to a vegetarian?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: This is the Video - if it is somehow against the rules - I apologize sincerely.

I used to be a vegetarian[footnote]kudos to you btw for not doing it because of hippie reasons..[/footnote].... until I realized cooking without real meat was boring and realized I was missing that kind of flavor in my food, and I missed that.

I would encourage you to make meals that revolve around other kinds of protein as it will be the one thing that will be missing primarily from your diet. The good thing about the winter is that its a good time to make things like soup and other hot foods that require not as much time and focused more on stewing or simple slow cooking. A lot of really good food to be made.

I have a lot of good veg. recipes (and I work in a kitchen, with veg orders every now and then) feel free to message me if you want some, or any help I could give

You'll need a veggie cook-book, probably.

Beans and lentils are a good source of the things you'll miss out. A good failsafe is just to get some multivitamins. Girl I know stopped having as much iron (I believe it was iron) due to her veggie diet and she turned into Satan without it. Multivitamins are the way to go.

I'm not a vegetarian, so I don't have much advice.

Stay away from processed soy products. The type sold to westerners is typically not good for you, at least compared to the alternative. If you're shopping for soy, get it from a local Asian market, rather than a chain grocery store.

If anything that video seemed to me to be some sort of veterinarian training guide. It certainly didn't put me off meat, It made me laugh actually.

make sure your compensate for the lack of protein in your diet....there are specific proteins that come from meat, so do some research as to what type of other foods will suffice as a substitute

Animals get pus-filled cysts and other unsightly diseases? Shock horror! Wow, I thought animals were invulnerable to all forms of infection! I was utterly convinced that diseases were only in the domain of humans and animals the media decided to pick on to scare humans! Now that I have been enlightened, I shall never be eating meat again!

Just make your last meat meal your own testicles. You'll never need them again.

It's pretty easy to be Vegetarian these days.

Just make sure you eat lots of fruit and veggies.

There are good meat substitutes for just about everything. My wife sends me off to work with a "chicken" or "turkey" sandwich every day, so you can eat pretty much what you want, since there's a substitute for everything. (The trick is finding those that meat your tastes.)

I just find meat tastes fucking horrible, it works better if I eat vegetables because I actually enjoy the flavour.

Being a vegetarian is perfectly safe.
If you want to become a fully-fledged vegan however, make sure get some vitamin B-12.

Don't be a twat for no reason; It put me of food; if that's not manly enough for you go juice up while shouting slogans.

I just want a little vegetarian advice not you being a twat.

I don't find that video scary.

Notice how long it takes him to clean a chicken leg? thats hardly worth the time for a company to do that, and if they just leave it there, i'll spot it before eating it.

Just cause i've seen a video of one bad chicken leg doesn't mean i can't eat good ones, if i had to quit eating stuff i've seen "bad versions" of, i would have to boycot something every time i clean my fridge.
Did 2 girls 1 cup make you stop using cups? Do you realize that theres prolly tons of videos of stale/rotten/nasty vegetables, and i bet you can find videos of peopel using cucumbers, carrots bananas etc to do stuff that you may possibly find disgusting as well.

You do realize that people get puss blisters too sometimes right? heck i have a friend who had one in his throat that had to be removed surgically. Does this mean you're gonna stop kissing people? Does VD's scare you from having sex?

This is just my reaction on teh video, it's in no way meant as an attack or anything, i'm not a meat-fanatic who needs other people to eat meat, and if you're going veggie well good for you.

Get a cook-book, it'll prolyl be a lot better than advise from random people from the internet, and if you still want advice, milk and cheese contain lots of protein.
If you're scared of lacking protein, go to your local gym (or whereever you get them) and get protein shakes.

P.s Don't worry about the afterlife of eternal suffering reserved for peole who didn't praise the gods by eating the tasty stuff they put here for us to eat, i'll pray eat some extra for you to save your soul durring prayer time munchies.

PPS. mushrooms (the non-drug ones) are fucking tasty if they're fried with spices, heck i'd even accept a meat-less dinner once in a whole if i was having fried shrooms
