Wow. I stoped watching these after the first movie. It's hard to believe it's still this popular.

Is anybody really surprised by this, considering they've released twelve games for handhelds alone?

Are the Pokemon movies technically the most successful video game film franchise ever? Why don't Nintendo stamp the Pokemon logo on everything they make and just buy the universe with all the money?

12!? They beat Land Before Time yet? I remember I used to turn the TV on and there was always a new one of those stupid dinosaur movies out...

Well... I can remember the kids channel doing a pokemon movie marathon thingie a while back...
That was when I was suprised with 10 movies ...
And a few months later the count is at 12 o_O

I think I went to see the first one in the theater.
And I've still got the special flashy Mew card ... Somewhere
im pretty sure that card is worth something now...

I think it'd be ironic if they actually ended up making 1999 more movies. The 2nd movie would have a hard time distinguishing it's place.

Also, Ash is what, 20 years old now?

Ash has to be what now, 18? Surely him hanging around all those girls that follow him on his journey has gotta count as a crime somewhere.

And also, what was the record? Series with the most movies, most presold tickets, both?

I stopped watching after the third movie, but 12? This is going the way of Final Fantasy, except they don't remake the 7th movie over and over again.

This is insane. Some creature creator is eventually gonna go insane because he has to make even more weird pokemon designs for each movie. I feel sorry for that man.

It does surprise me a bit but there had to be a reason why they've continued producing them. I remember seeing the first one at the cinema and still have it and Pokemon 2000 on VHS. I saw the third one on TV years ago but not seen any since

I thought Pokemon: The First Movie was extremely well done when I was a kid. Looking back it's rather ridiculous.

BTW, how pretentious are you as a film maker to call your first movie... Pokemon: The First Movie??? It's like they knew they were going to pump out a million of em so they might as well just call it The First Movie to make it easier for people. Pricks...

Is the series still about Ash and pikachu? Did he ever get it on with Misty, or is she even still part of the show? I only ever saw the first two movies (which were awesome), and then kinda moved on. Although, I think I would go see something where it's a huge battle royal of all the Legenary, because watching the rarest of rare slaughter each other with cartoon violence does sound pretty cool.

It's funny awhile ago me and a friend were trying to count the number of Pokemon films there had been. We got to 10. That's pretty embrassing considering we only missed 2 and one isn't even out yet.

All that, "OMG, Pokemon is for kids" stuff aside, I have to say that the animation studios behind the Pokemon movies do a pretty fabulous job. They don't just churn out easy kid stuff, they actually push some artistic boundaries in the various scenes they tackle. So it's not too surprising to me to see them still producing record-breaking movie sales at #12.

That's true, although the story lines are kind of going downhill. The first three movies were great, the 4th was stupid, Pokemon Heroes was alright...and it kind of keeps going down from there.

Well, as far as uphill and downhill goes there are a lot of cultural differance to consider. While we do have some similar tastes, Japanese and Americans do have differant standards on a lot of things.

As far as how long Pokemon is going, consider that people are still recycling the whole "Amuro Ray: Gundam" thing... the very first stories, with some success, and that is even older than Pokemon.

I guess part of the thing is that a couple of cartoons have become defining parts of Japanese culture as a whole. Something that seems odd to a culture without anything similar. I guess you could consider Gundam and Pokemon sort of like the Japanese versions of "Gone With The Wind", "Citizen Kane", and "Casablanca"... viewed as equal works of cultural art there (even if they wouldn't use that term) and which will never die.. despite being series as opposed to stand alone works.

I know some people are probably going to roll their eyes at the thought of Pikachu being the "Scarlet O'Hara" or "Rhett Butler" of any culture's pop cutlture... but the phenomena sort of speaks for itself.

Such are my thoughts.

I'd half expect that if we ever sent forward the best media our cultures had produced those three enduring classics would be on the American short list, and Mobile Suit Gundam, and a couple of the Pokemon movies (if not the whole series) would be somewhere on the Japanese ones.

You think 12 movies is bad?

The Land Before Time movies are fighting with Square on the number of installments they can dish out. There are currently thirteen LBT movies.

God dammit, Little Foot. When will you finally fucking die?
