Twilight Screenwriter Penning Highlander Reboot

Why are we calling this a remake? Two possibilities.

1) Because it exactly retells the story of the first movie, except with different actors and music and special effects.
- Then we don't need it made. We have the first movie! And since you can't get Freddie Mercury back, it'll be a hard sell on at least the music front.
2) Because it's sort of like the first movie, but not.
- Then it's like every other Highlander property out there.

So this film is either going to be redundant or no closer to the original than the other sequels and spinoffs out there. Fine. I'm as excited about this as I was about The Source, which is to say I heard about it and decided to wait for other people to see it before I bothered with it again. Worked well that time!

Well, considering how bad the sequals has been, at least they can't make it any worse... right?

Alas, poor Highlander. I weep for you.

I just don't get this. Why would you assign the person who adapted the Twilight books to write the re-booted Highlander? Does Hollywood just have some grudge against Highlander for being awesome?

Plus, it's not like there aren't warning signs. Chirstopher Lambert and Clancy Brown did great as Connor and the Kurgen in the original, so who're they going to get to play them this time around? Probably what'll happen is they'll clone Shia LeBouf so he can play both of them, with bonus points for cloning him again so he can play Ramirez.

I still might see it, depending on what happens, but all I want is for this to be good! If not just for the sake of redeeming the franchise but for the sake of redeeming the screenwriter. I mean it doesn't get much lower than the Twilight movies, except maybe Highlander: The Source.

I just don't want to be hurt anymore for liking the first Highlander!

Well, that should be good:

"Oh Edmund, you're positive sparkling with ageless life energy! But since you can die from beheading, you shouldn't lose your head, but settle down in a pure traditional Christian form of marriage - there can be only one! - with some infatuated doormat girl who'll be too impressed with your supernatural gift to not just go along with it. Also, who are all those supermodels with swords?"

Can't wait!

Once again proving that Hollywood has run out of creativity, and will do whatever they can to milk from the cash cow...I can imagine the ads. "By the same writer who brought you Twilight ... Highlander!" THe'll find a way to market the connection to make a buck.

*Hugs her BD copy of Highlander.*

It wont have Sean Connery in it so there is absolutely no reason for anyone to go see it.

I saw The Quickening, all I can recall was that it was about aliens who wanted to turn off an energy shield protecting the earth because the ozone layer was depleted. I think, I zoned in and out of it so I probably missed most of what some would generously call the "plot".

Still, you cant blame Melissa Rosenberg. She had shitty material to work with and couldn't expand beyond the confines of the framework.

Okay, seriously. You have to be kidding me. What's next? Joel Schumacher directing the film version of 24?

Careful young padwan, that way the Prequels lie. Accepting them leads to watching that which shall not be named, and we have lost many to the Sparkle Side. Easier it is, quick to join you in a fight. Once you start liking the Sparkle though, forever will it dominate your view, consume you, it will. Until you accept that The Quickening isn't as bad as some say. Then, you are lost.
You have just brightened my day. Thank you.

Well it certainly couldn't suck any worse than another sequel, although I really wouldn't know where to begin for a reboot. So maybe just letting it go may be the best option.

Aside from her work penning supernatural love triangles, Rosenberg was one of the writers for the TV show Dexter and has been nominated for two Emmy awards.
Wow. I, uh, really? I like that show... It's so different to the Twilight movies too.
Anyway, I've actually only seen the first movie, which I enjoyed. So if they do well, yay. If they don't, well, I'm not going to care that much.
