A tip of my hat you, Therumancer. Succinct and well worded.

Folks, if you set up a network that lets anything be communicated on it, then don't be shocked when anything pops up. We've managed to get to the point where anyone can announce anything on a global scale as long as it's worded in a quick and simple manner. That means that all information, as long as it's phrased right, can reach the world. Don't be shocked or insulted by the fact that it can happen. If you want to be shocked or insulted by the information itself, fine, that's part of our human experience, but don't be stunned by how it's delivered.

I have to agree with Mr. Goldman about what a Governor is doing Tweeting at an event like this. This Twitter thing is getting out of control, it's a commercially driven site that houses peoples thoughts in the form of "tweets".

First off (a little off topic sorry) who gives a crap what people are thinking on a minute by minute basis? You see what happened to Jim Carries Character in Bruce Almighty (i know i know im grasping for parallels).

But seriously, the Governor should have shown a little more professionalism...i mean look at his twitter account name, more so look at the fact that instead of this Governor paying attention to what is going on around him he is more concerned with his little blackberry twitter account.

I seriously hope you said that purely so you could get the pun out.
No pun intended. That lawyer should NOT have posted that on Twitter. Pure and Simple.

Can't be worse than what I heard about two girls who tweeted about being trapped in a cave instead of fucking calling 911.

With all the people talking about how this robs the guy of respect and dignity, let me remind you that he KILLED an attorney trying to escape from a courtroom and injured the bailiff. That's not to mention the fact that he was in the court room to begin with for whatever crime he had committed before that (and if he will murder just to escape, I doubt it was something minor).

He forfeited all rights to dignity and respect upon doing that and deserves both the firing squad he received AND the tweet that let everyone know what happens when you break these laws.

That's fucking disgusting.

This is why Facebook, Twitter and everything else like it is making me really not want to live through the next few decades.
Over reaction much? I mean I agree, it's really god damn odd that he did something like this but really, what's so disturbing about it?
It's completely out of place for such a thing, the sentence to death is not something that belongs here.
I could understand if such a statement was put on the internet by a real news site, but from a personal account? no, certainly not, even if it's not intended to be taken in such a way, there's no obligation for him to put such a thing on his account, I get the impression putting a man to death is something he has no issue with, no feeling towards, even if said person was a killer.
Also disgusts me because if people put shit like this on twitter accounts, I hate to see what it's going to be like in 10-20 years, it's really fucking depressing, to say the least.

Its a judge for starters. How is posting that on twitter any different than hearing that on the news?

It's odd, it's unorthadox, and the simple reality. A man is being put to death. Everything else is just window dressing. The oddity of the scenario coupled with the morbid nature of mortality creates a sort of odd feeling.

Do I think it's immoral to "tweet" a mans legal execution? No. Do I think it's immoral to kill a man? It's murder- legally sanctioned murder. I think of this tweet like a 150 letter news blurb. Rather than some blog, or print, we're getting 150 letters from the source. It's... unusual.

Twitter abuse... Twitter makes people feel "that everybody cares about what they do in life". And they have no bounds to what part of their life they are twitting... :/

There is a perception held by some here in Australia that the US justice system (especially with regard to capital punishment) is severely flawed at best and a grotesque mockery of human rights at worst. Something like this does not contribute to altering that impression. It seems far too informal a treatment of such a formal matter.
Well, to be fair. The common perception of the rest of the civilised world is that Australias laws are even more fucked up that the US's and what with the recent banning of small breasts in porn lest it entice paedophiles and the new fines for swearing in public I hardly think Australians are in any position to judge.
They need to get their own house in order before they can comment on other countries issues.
Taking that logic to its conclusion, no-one could ever comment on anything. Really though, I doubt anyone would seriously view fines for abusive behaviour in one Australian state in parallel with executions in the States. There is really no basis for comparison, however 'f**ked up' some people may think our censorship laws are.
