All Twitter is is a means of conveying information. It doesn't have to be flimsy and cutesy like other social networking sites.

Also, good on him and his state. It's nice to see some places still have the balls to execute their criminals, not to mention announce it to the public.

He picked his way to die, he had it coming. Though I think they should have shot him in the lung, let him die by internal bleeding while gasping for air. Much like his victims.

Is it barbaric? Hell no. Were able to establish a stable society because we grouped up and decided that some ones insane shit shouldn't ruin it for the rest of us. Do people honestly think he should be allowed to live after he knowingly took the lives of two others ( he attempted to take more)? did they get a chance to beg for life? Did he give them the chance to live life to the fullest? Or did he cut their innocent lives short for his own ape shit reason?

-If your religious, he moves onto the next life, its a gift to move on. Eternal rest. If you believe in heaven or hell. He chose his damnation, no one made him murder, why make him wait for it? Do you think its better for him to spend 50+ years in a cell, is that a kind act?

-If you believe were animals, no different from the rest. Were just removing a dumb ass from the herd, his defective genes wont pollute the rest of the gene pool and no more productive people that contribute to society will be lost because of him. The murderer was permanently removed, better for the rest of us.

-Had he lived or was let go. What led him to murder in the first place? Was that curable? Would you give him a job? Would you continue to pay for his 3 meals a day and free cable? Normal people dont kill on a whim (he went to prison for a botched robbery, faked and illness to escape, injuring a guard during his escape to the degree that the guard needed fucking WIRES to hold his face together. then shot a bartender during another botched robber. was caught and shot two more people). does 25 years in a small room fix that?

And for all those people who think those with opposing view from your own should be judged by the way we think, I would expect to die by firing squad or worse if I murdered two people. What manner of logical thinking would give any other conclusion?

The revolution won't be televised, it'll be Twittered. With Facebook groups.
With LiveJournal entries galore. With embedded video and pictures from Youtube and Flickr.

All of it shared on the Escapist. Hoo-Rah!

Damn they're still doing firing squad executions!? Didn't know that!

On another note, that seems unprofessional. He seems a bit smug in his tweet, which morally puts him at a level almost as low as the man who was executed (I know the nature of the deaths are different but I'm talking attitude here, not crimes).

Very, very lame.

he could have gone for lethal injection, but he asked for the firing squad.

I think I'd prefer a firing squad to lethal injection though, one bullet to the head and thats it, there is no way I would be able to sit there while they shove needles in my arm and then just wait for death.

I have to say that is a very well writen tweet. I'm not used to that. I guess as long as they keep it professional I guess it's ok. However I am more worried about the replys. (LOL!)

Though overall I still don't like twitter and will most likely never use it unless I find a good reason to. So whatever.

I'm not a fan of capital punishment...

But I really see no problem with the guy tweeting about it. Why the fuck not?

I don't see any problem with this. Sure beats the hell out of all those newsworthy twitter messages going something along the lines of "LOL I JUST SAW THE BIGGEST BANANA EVER DUDE I AM SO HIGH RIGHT NOW" messages from certain... shall we say (in the interest of puns) twits on the aforementioned website.

This right here, people, is called real life. News aren't always what you want to hear. I know, shocking.

What's next everyone tweetting their bowel movements "I had a Piss, it went well"
The poop is coming out now.

OT: I think execution is bull shit to begin with. There isn't a single thing in man's authority that gives them the right to take another's life, even if they have done wrong. However, the man who tweeted that should be executed. That's a bit rude to announce. He typo'd "Dog," too. He swapped the D and the G by accident.

On a side note, Utah is the home of the Mormons. Haha. Many laughs for my area.

Now what about giving the condemned a final tweet before they pull the switch.

While tweeting just after giving the go for an execution might be a bit distasteful, I really don't see what the big deal is. It's not like he used a smiley or something.

By the law of his state, that criminal was to be executed. By him tweeting about it he informed people of what happend.

The question possed by OP "Is it moral to be on Twitter when you're about to send a man to his death?" Is irrelevant as the criminal was sentenced to death 25 years ago. He is a politician showing the constituents that he is doing his job and that justice is being caried out.

Twitter is a communication tool, no more no less.

It blows my mind to think how people will eventually misuse or abuse new technologies as they come out. There's a Wii Vitality Sensor coming out that's (SUPPOSED) to go on the end of your finger, and the Xbox 360's new Kinect system allows you to "interact" ;) with virtual animals. You can see where this is going.

I'm more amazed that the guy said, "May God grant him the mercy he denied his victims."

Uh; I would think God would flush his ass down the toilet and straight into Hell. I mean, come on--it's fucking murder. That's like telling Hitler to go sit in a corner and think about what he did.

I'm not a deeply religious person by any means, but as someone who had a friend who was murdered in cold blood, I tend to not want mercy of any kind for killers.
