So instead of going after pedophiles and other dangeours people...The pirates are the biggest threat because it damages the amount of $$$...

What great fucking idea! Let's spend money on this instead of something else that could have helped people. Like a cure for cancer...
Capitalism at its best...

Meh...

They better damn well set some rules, they should only have the power to shut down sites known to be infiringing, not just any site they feel is doing so.

Perhaps make it so that there needs to be a warrant of sorts before a site can be shut down?

The funny thing is, this is all a lie to get people scared and draw them in line; they haven't taken down a single torrent site, only counterfeit sites and WikiLeaks.
Take it with a pinch of salt, but there is some truth in there, I'm sure that the DHS plans on cracking down on shit, maybe even enacting so lawsuits, but at the end of the day the question boils down to "do you feel lucky, punk?" there may only be one bullet in their gun, and you may only be on in a billion, but one bullet still equals one kill.
...Wut?

The point is that they haven't actually taken down a single site that engages in piracy; the only sites that they've taken down (their 'great victory') are sites which openly sell counterfeit versions of products manufactured in the US.

As a devout (heh) Pastafarian, I predict a rise in global warming because of this ruling.

Well, I guess they decided to stall the "drug war" and institute a "pirate war".

'That's right, I just called the President a political smoke screen.'

You've only just figured that out? ANY elected official is little more than a puppet. The trick is to figure out who's pulling the strings.

As for the US Government cracking down on piracy - they can suck on my salty balls. Talk about fucked up priorites. It's not enough that they make enemies of the reast of the world, they're now doing their darndest to make enemies out of their own people (although I guess the 'War on Drugs' has been doing that for years). And the stupidest thing is that since Australian politicians have no imagination, it's only a matter of time before we start hearing the same bullshit rhetoric here as well.

Time for another revolution, America.

How exactly does "stopping piracy sites" figure into homeland security? It's a threat to corporations, sure but not something that requires the full attention of the US government. Oh, right...

So Congress shoots down any idea that might help the economic troubles most citizens face, but they agree that a futile attempts to solve a trivial problem (I don't care what anyone says, piracy IS trivial) for big business needs immediate approval.

Nice to see priorities are in order.

I'm saying they will do something, and even if what they do isn't as big as they make it out to be we should all be ready just in case, you never know when they might actually be telling the truth after all the lying they've done. (this ruling could destroy the internet which is, as everyone knows, the last place to find any real truth in the world, especially about the various industries and government officials, basically, the government hates the internet, and we might all become casualties in a huge shit storm of bad policies.)
Ah, I understand now.

Excellently said.

I am a huge supporter of online freedom, and I very much do not approve of the US government trying to take down sites outside their jurisdiction.

I support the people takling internet piracy, but whenever anyone states they're going to "stop" it I just think they're an idiot. You can't "stop" any type of crime; if someone said they were going to stop all murders in America they'd be laughed out of court but somehow this gets to stay in.

America blacklisting any websites though... errrrr not good. Think a person on the street has performed a crime? Take them to court and trial them. Don't make them disapear.
I agree completely. Internet Piracy= Bad and it should be slowed but their will always be ways for them to Pirate.

That's awesome. Another sign of the American Gov't being bought by corporate interests...

How about you fix the fact that a huge percentage of your people are below the poverty line...
You don't understand, all the economic problems the US faces are caused directly by pirates... Sorry, I meant internet thieves, terrorists and child molesters. I mean, why isn't it obvious to you?
You're right of course.

I should watch more Fox News or MSNBC and stop thinking out loud.

At the end of the day if someone wants to download song X or watch program Y, the internet will find a way to make it happen. Always. They're just throwing good money away.

Eventually, Anonymous will get involved then the worlds in deep crap.

Anonymous vs. The US Goverment? You couldn't get me to bet a quid on how thats gonna turn out.

If the President wants 4chan taken down, it will be taken down, no doubt about it.
Where talking about a man incharge of one of the world's superpowers, I doubt he dosnt have the authority to take down a potential threat to his country.

Luckly for 4chan, Obama is a /b/tard and would never betray his fellow /b/rothers.
