I wonder about how this could be logistically possible, and how it could even be helpful.

But really, how do you turn off the internet?

Just hire Sam Collins, he'll Samuraize and transform into Servo and defeat any incoming computer virus.

Or Gridman if you're Japanese.
You win a million internets and the lifetime achievement award for that reference right there. Ah, I remember watching that show in school.. good times.

Oh come on! My wifi is iffy at best, but now I can have fun, whenever it goes out and I'm around people I can yell "Internet is down! We're in a time of crisis!!!" or something...
Seriously though, this better not happen and I shall now look over this ledge-ass-lation

EDIT: yeah, it's like 197 pages and I'm lazy....

hmmm, i think in the majority, this is beneficial: imagine that hackers have hacked (obviously) into the u.s. goverment computer and launched the nuclear missiles all round the world, this mechanism would allow them to stop this catastrophe before it happened.
The only problem i can think of with this plan is no more Escapist :(

EDIT: I guess he could use it in a tyrannical sense, but if he does America needs a new president!

Somehow I doubt that any computer that can be used to launch nuclear missiles is anything other than 100% self-contained. Why hook it up to the internet?

Cyber-9/11? So a digital plane crashing into a digital building? or a digital excuse to take away the Constitution and start a never ending war the exists only to exist so arms sales skyrocket and American businesses can steal foreign natural resources?

Allowing this bill to pass will be like letting all news come through Fox News (which might as well be called Faux News). The only truth is the truth of those in power (which normally isn't the real truth).

So let me give you an analogy, giving the US government the ability to turn off the internet in the case of cyber-terrorism is like giving Al Queda a nuclear warhead to cut their grass, THEY'RE GOING TO ABUSE THE PRIVILEGE!!!

The internet originated to send important information in case other forms of communication were disabled due to a Soviet nuclear attack.

Any one else see the irony in this.

it shouldnt happen but if its gonna happen it sure as hell shouldnt be one specific country that has control over it

The UN would probably be a better way to control it

i mean US goes to invade somewhere kills the net in there country suddenly the other country starts having issues
