Oh gawd if all of this 'Eco Packaging' keeps up we are just going to be left getting our games in these.
"The very limited edtition of "Infinty Ward's" newest game, Modern Warfare 38 will feature the game and a hard plastic cover for the game."
Hooray for ecology.
I'm 'meh' at Ubisofts eliminating of user manuals, I never read them anyway.

They should at least allow the option to print out the manual or even the manual in different parts.

NOTICE: MUST HAVE INTERNET CONNECTION ESTABLISHED AT ALL TIMES IN ORDER FOR MANUAL TO BE READ

LOSS OF CONNECTIONS RESULTS IN CLOSING OF MANUAL, AND ALL MEMORIES OF IT BEING WIPED FROM YOUR BRAIN WITH A SERIES OF MAJOR ELECTRICAL SHOCKS.
Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

And GOD DAMN IT UBISOFT, are you TRYING to make us hate you? Why would you remove manuals? What if I want to read the manual while in the middle of a game? Do I have to save, quite to main menu then look it up, every time? What if I want to read the manual without turning my machine on?

Because you're all money grubbing turds, that's why!

Whatever, just wash your hands.
"in a related announcement ubisoft has declared it will print its game dvds on cardboard in an effort to cut down on plastic, users can expect to have to replace the cardboard dvds after about 3 weeks of use"

I've said it before: Ubisoft is deliberately sabotaging themselves.

First they make it impossible to actually play the game with the retardo-DRM, now they're dumping the manuals. Note how it is for the PC only?

It's all a ploy to lower sales even more, so their stockholders will "force" them to quit the PC market -- so Ubisoft gets an out without having to admit they wanted out in the first place and thereby damaging their own credibility as a publisher.
The sad, bold-faced truth.

Though I have to wonder why they continue with the "Settlers" series if so - I mean, thats PC exclusive, as far as I can tell.

As harsh as it is, I'm seeing this as another reason to not buy Ubisoft games anymore -__-

The manual was the FUN part of opening the box! D: Besides, you know, there being a game in there.

When you read the manual ingame you get the "Literacy" achievable.

Maybe Ubisoft and Kotick have a bet to see who can make the community hate them the most.

I for one think it's an okay idea. Manuals are nothing like they used to be, anyway.

And if the company wants to find ways to try and save money, so what? It's perfectly understandable.

Rofl, stupid publishers. The problem is that it is too easy to make a copy of the digital media so what the publishers do? Remove all motivation to purchase a box containing the product. Because you get NOTHING that that pirates don't get other than the warm fuzzy feeling you are helping Bobby Kotick afford more hookers and blow.

Oh wait you do get obnoxious DRM that requires you to connect to the internet to play a single player game, or limit the number of times you can install software you purchased, or maybe hey a rootkit!

It's okay if a company lowers their quality of service, as long as they're trying to save money?

delgrotto, I am disappoint.

Hmmm. Environmental reasons you say? Could it be that the truth is much simpler... With the impossible DRM that makes their game unplayable, a manual becomes superfluous. Why print a manual for a game that your anti-piracy measures will render unplayable?
This.
Their DRM is so ass I'm avoiding their products.

Okay...so first a lot of games switch to worthless manuals in black and white like six-pages long (including covers), and now this.

After reading this topic, I find there are people like me who use these manuals as toilet-reading. I have a certain ceremony that happens when I buy new games, the start of which is reading the manual cover-to-cover while on the can...well, unless it is really long, then I change locale. Regardless, if you are just going to have the manual in the game, why bother including one at all? Just give me an option in the menu with the controls and I am happy.

I love manuals. I love seeing the awesome artwork, character backstory, etc. Don't take my joy away from me!

I miss kick ass manuals :(

Baldur's Gate II was the greatest game of all time and had one of the greatest manuals of all time. Coincidence? Yes. Yes it is. Sorta.

I'm sure some of my old games just had read me files with the controls and basics about the games... this doesn't feel too different really.
