Next time you buy a ubisoft game you will get an empty box with only a note in it saying:

"Since you need to be online to play the game anyway we just don't even bother with a physical copy anymore. "

I'd say something like "fie on thee Ubisoft!", but honestly, anymore manuals have little to no info beyond the absolute bare minimum you need to know what the hell the controls do, so omitting one wouldn't really leave me missing much.

And of course I'm already boycotting everything Ubisoft releases, so this just gives me more justification, heh.

But, one of the things I love about a new game is the smell of the manual... Now what am I supposed to sniff? Hmm... Maybe they'll start packing cocaine in there...

I would be more miffed if game manuals in recent time haven't been lacking in quality. Fine, I'll take an in depth, fleshed out digital game manual(you know, the kind with colors?) over a black and white halfassed explanation that really, I could figure most of out given 2 minutes without any help.

How about they also make a pdf of the guide available on each game's website? I don't really care about the physical manual.

This is designed so they recycle the games no one will buy due to ubisoft's drm.
No, the next step is to discontune production of the game disks to further reduce emissions.

As a PC gamer I can say that I nolonger really care what they do now, Everything is going to be a console port so its not like the control setup is going to be complicated enough to require a manual.

Damn I miss the manuals of the 90's

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! Thats half of the reason I buy my games in physical form. I want the whole nice box/manual packaging. And I bet the money they save in the production process won't be passed onto us...

While I like the idea, I don't really support it. I like to read the manual on the way home from the store so I can just put in the game and play it. Besides, manuals tend to be so thin now that they have about as much info as the tutorials anyway.

Uhhh..lol? Whats the point of not needing to be online to read it? You cant PLAY their games without being online, so its pretty friggen pointless to only be able to read the manual offline.

Well that's bull, manuals are an essential part of the gaming experience, without them you can't pause the game and figure out how to perform a certain move and that means you have to listen really close to what the game tells you to do and that can be a pain sometimes. I mean I could stand the horrible DRM because I'm not a PC gamer but this is just going way too far in my opinion. Ah well, I know now that I won't be buying any of Ubisoft's games any time soon.

This makes no sense, none of this eco crap with video games. I want you Escapists to REALLY think hard about this. How many games have you EVER thrown out? How many Manuals have you thrown out? This isn't ecofriendly this is bullshit-tastic
It's not about the end-user throwing out stuff, it's about the environmental cost of creating a user manual. Seriously guys.

Ubisoft: We are removing those 6 pages of paper people will read only once to be more eco-friendly (and save money of course)

Gamers: FLIP THE FUCK OUT!

Whatever, I don't care what Ubisoft does anymore. I'm sick and tired of hearing the name.
